What is the differences 1080P 24fps and 30fps ?

1/. Canon 5D, 1080P 30 fps and Nikon 7000 1080P , 24 fps . Is the picture quality the same between the 30fps and 24 fps ??
2/. What is the rate for fps in movie standard today (30 or 24) ??

1-The picture quality will be indistinguishable if you know how to work the camera right. HD TV is broadcast at 29.97fps unless its a sports program in which case the frame rate is usually 60p so the action will be smooth and undistorted.

2- The frame rate of a movie is dependent on the film maker. There is no industry standard rate. Some are shot in 24, 25, 30, or 60fps. But if you have a Blu-ray player, you might have noticed that 99% of the movies are at 24fps which is the rate of the old movie film.

Yes, both are supposed to be better then regular DVD players, and in similar ways. There certainly are technical differences, but the main effective difference to the consumer is that, except for Warner Bros. studios, the major studios are lined up behind one or the other. So if you get HD-DVD, you'll find stuff from WB, Paramount, and NBC/Universal out in HD, and you'll need regular DVDs for other content. If you get Blu-Ray, you'll have Sony, Fox, Disney, etc. but you can't get Paramount or NBC/Universal.

Now, as for better, the "better" is very real. Both formats support full high definition discs (technically, 720/60p, 1080/60i, or 1080/24p), which looks dramatically better on you HDTV than DVD... not that DVDs look all that bad. Both formats support the existing MPEG-2 encoding used on DVDs, but also allow videos to be encoded in two modern compressed formats, MPEG-4 AVC (same format used on the iPod and satellite TV) and VC-1 (that's the standardized version of Windows Media Video 9). The quality on either format can be technically higher than broadcast HDTV, so these are currently about the best looking thing you can view on your HDTV.

They also offer improved sound, with multichannel uncompressed audio (DVDs only offer uncompressed stereo, and even that's rarely offered on DVDs), and surround up to 7.1 channels. Not that many people have 7.1 channel audio today, but these are pretty forward-looking.

The other feature in both is "interactivity"... you can play simple games, or access web sites, or do other fancy stuff that's impossible on DVDs. Where that goes remains to be seen, but it seems to primarily be used to point users to additional content (and, along with it, the change to target ads) online.

The fact that the formats are not compatible with one another is having a negative effect on the growth of the high def disc market. It could be that "universal" players, such as those from LG and Samsung, are the final solution.. but currently, these cost more than getting two basic players.

This format war is really about greed... the company that owns the core technologies for either format will make money on those technology licenses. There may be a winner, but if that happens, the consumers backing the wrong format will likely be the losers, more than any hardware or movie company. However, if the format war lasts long enough to establish low cost universal players, there may simply be no winner, and consumers will largely get to play either format without penalty.

You can argue technical details of one format vs. the other, but these aren't really going to make much difference for regular users -- both formats do pretty much the same thing. Blu-Ray is a bit more advanced, spec-wise, and a bit more powerful. On the other hand, I think the Blu-Ray introduction has tripped up a couple of times, while the HD-DVD rollout was more slick (part of that's the fact that only Toshiba has been selling HD-DVD, and they're all powered by Microsoft's WinCE OS, so there's less variation between players than with the dozen or so companies making Blu-Ray players).

1080p24p/60p 120 hz confusion...?

i'm looking into getting a new sony lcd WITHOUT the 120hz option. i noticed that the sony lcd im looking at ( KDL-40S4100) has a 24p input option with blu-ray. does this mean that since it has a 24p input option with the blu-ray player that the need for a 120hz lcd is pointless? i understand the need for the 3:2 pulldown when you have a 60hz tv trying to display 24fps film. im just a little confused about this option with blu-ray. if this is the case, does this hold true for upconverted dvd's or is that where the need for 120hz lcd's comes in to play. thanks!!!

There are two advantages to the 120Hz:

1) Uniform motion of objects in the picture is much smoother, eliminating "trails". This is true for both video (60Hz) and film (24Hz) sources. This is a result of the interpolation of the extra frame from 60Hz sources. (For 24Hz sources, see below.)

2) if the set accepts 24p input, that works out to exactly 5 120Hz frames per one 24Hz movie frame, and that eliminates "judder". Judder comes from the fact that to convert 24Hz to 60Hz, one 24Hz frame produces 3 60Hz frames and the next will produce only 2 60Hz frames (3-2 pulldown). This uneven duration of display time causes non-uniform motion display. In addition, the 5 120Hz frames generated from the 24Hz frames are "interpolated" so that film "jitter" (the jerky display because of the slow frame rate) is reduced greatly.

In summary, if you are getting blu-ray, especially if you plan to watch a lot of film-originated material. 120Hz is the way to go.

The 24Hz output of a DVD player, both blu-ray and standard, can be a perfect replica of the original motion picture frame sequence. This is because the frames are "flagged" when recorded on the DVD, so it is possible for the circuitry to identify which frame to output at 24Hz and not output identical frames in sequence. So the 24hz benefits apply to both upconverted standard and blu-ray DVDs (played on a blu-ray player).

Help me please. Does Sony Bravia BX300 series 22 inch HDtv support 1080p with HDMI?

The basic answer is yes. The technical answer is, yes but it has to convert the incoming video to match that set's 720p screen, which could cause the picture to lose a small degree of clarity on a large screen TV.

But on a screen size of only 22 inches, it's no problem at all. 1080p video from a Blu-ray player or a game box will look just as good as if that set had a 1080p screen. Same for TV channels in 1080i. You only start to have a problem with screen sizes that are much bigger.

Here's the deal:

From what I understand, if I play a Blu-Ray movie using my PS3 (letting the player choose the best output format) it will very likely produce a 1.080p 24Hz video signal.

Being that the case, my native 720p projector (Panasonic PT-AX200U) has to compress the image to be able to fit the 1.080 horizontal lines being sent from the player in the 720 available in the projector. In practice and considering the resolution only, this should be the same as sending out a video of 720p for the projector to beam it as it.

The above makes me think I will be better off getting 720p content to avoid image compression, I am right?

I thought I was until I started wondering about frame rate. According to the Manufacturer Spec File, the Pany AX200U can achieve 720/60p as well as 1.080/24p. I donât really know if these rates are being converted or adjusted by the projector to fit its own parameters, using, for instance, a 3:2 pattern. Moreover, since LCD tech doesn't actually ârefreshâ the frames but has an internal transition rate, I donât even know if this FPS info does matter at all.

In summary what Iâd like to know is what combination of resolution/frame rate will produce the best picture quality in my system and if the difference between these two will be noticeable to a less-than-expert eyes like mines.

The answer is it's difficult to predict.

Basically, the PS3 will output at different resolutions according to the settings entered. If you pick 720p/60 the PS3 has to scale the image down from 1080p/24 and convert the signal to 60 fps from the "native" 24 fps. The image quality will depend on the video processor in the PS3.

On the other hand, if you feed 1080p/24 from the PS3 to the projector the same conversion (or to whatever is the native resolution of the projector) is made by the video processor in the projector.

Which processor is better basically will determine which will give the better image.

The only way to tell for sure is to try the various combinations and pick whichever looks best.

My guess is you won't see much difference ... and if so it doesn't matter.
