is there a blu-ray player recorder?

Q. did they make a blu ray player that can also record tv programs onto a blu-ray disc and then play it back in 1080p HD yet

Answer
I'm sure there is a device somewhere in the world that can do this, but at this point it would be really expensive. With stand alone blu-ray players just barely getting below the $300 mark, a recorder would be double or triple that price at minimum.

Closest I could come up with would be a Computer with a HD tuner card in it and a Blu-Ray burner. But no stand alone unit I know of does this.

WAIT... I was wrong.. Sony has a few out. Starting at $1,000 I might add... http://gizmodo.com/5044710/sony-has-blu+ray-recorder-frenzy-six-new-models-with-hdd-recording-too

blu ray burner/recorder?

Jake

i'm getting a PS3, and it has a built in blu ray player. i have a macbook and it has a superdrive (it can burn CDs and DVDs), but what i wanted to do is make blu ray discs because they'd be better than the DVDs. is there anyway i could do either of the following:

1. get an external blu ray burner/recorder that would work with my macbook?
2. burn the DVDs from my macbook and then convert them into blu ray discs with a blu ray burner/recorder?

thanks.

Answer
I don't believe that there is a blu-ray burner that will work with any apple products yet.

Hi,
I need a Blu Ray player that comes with an internal hard drive, tv tuner (or at least that I can plug in my cable box to it and record) & that I could use as a Stand-alone TiVo or VCR.

Any recommendations?

Today I have a DVD recorder with such specifications and want to upgrade it.

Answer
There are no blu-ray recorders yet. I don't think the TV/Movie industry likes that idea either, so I expect when they do arrive, they'll be so crippled that they'll essentially be useless for, you know, recording TV.

I'm confused over change from DVD to Blu-ray. Can I use a Blu-ray disc in my regular DVD player?

iwonder?

I have a DVD Player/recorder that I just bought and now I see Blu-ray is going to take over. Can I play a Blu-ray disc in my regular DVD player??? Or will I have to buy a new player?

Answer
You cannot play blu ray on your dvd recorder.
But you can play your recorded dvd (and regular ones) on a blu-ray player.
You don't need a blu ray player if you don't have a HDTV.

I was going to get a Panasonic blu ray recorder so I can record shows and play blu ray but I just found a new LG blu ray player that has a personal video recorder built in. Both have twin hdd tuners the only difference is the price and the panasonic can burn the tv shows to a blu ray disc. What do you think?

Answer
Isn't it funny how we know what we want until the next thing comes along. I'd stick with the first choice but its what you want and can afford

What is the best money can buy for up to $400 for a Blu-ray player?

I'm looking for Blu-Ray player with BD Live and a connection for Sirius or XM. I really like to get one that is a recorder IF it's worth it. I am also looking for one that can upscale DVD's running a 5.1 channel digital or analog outputs.

Thanks.

Answer
I agree with MTS, the Oppo BDP-80 is an outstanding universal player, it has 7.1 channel outputs so if your receiver won't decode the new HD audio formats, the Oppo will. I don't believe there are any recorders out yet - except for a computer connected drive. As far as a Sirius/XM connection an AV receiver would have those, not a stand alone blu-ray player.

Blu Ray player and digital tuner in one box?

galatamous

Someone tell me if this exists: (include link) A Blu Ray player that is also an HD tuner, preferably dual tuner. Essentially what I am looking for is a comcast HD DVR (with dual tuner) and a blu ray player in one box. As far as I know they don't exist but somebody please help. Thank you.

Answer
Doesn't exist, at least not right now.

It'll be some time before we start seeing blu-ray recorders which would include a HD tuner.
