I used to have a Samsung Blu-ray player (BDP1580) which cost £80 but it packed up completly after 2 weeks and also they freeze up all of the time where I work.

Instead, you should spend just that little bit more and get the best one on the market, getting rave reviews by virtually all critics.

I have had this for just over 6 months now, no freezing, much better picture and sound quality than the samsung AND internet services such as Demand Five and BBC iPlayer!

I want to get a blu ray player and I was wondering if I should get an actual blu ray player from around 250 to 300$ price range or if I should get a PS3? PS3 would mainly be for blu ray so gaming would just be a bonus. Is the blu ray on the ps3 as good as a standard blu ray player made by samsung or sony?

I have just spent the better part of today researching, reading and writing about blu-ray players. I saw a lot of praise for the Sony PlayStation 3. CNET Reviews said that the PS3 is the most recommendable Blu-ray player out there. They felt that most people would be well suited with the PS3 at least until the standalone units cost much less and perform as well. If you would actually use the machine for gaming, that is a huge bonus in my mind. It certainly sounds like it is as good, actually better, than many standard blu-ray players by Samsung or Sony.

Unfortunately Blu-Ray players cannot play HD-DVD's as they are made using an entirely different format from Blu-Ray Discs. As I understand it, old DVDs will also play on Blu-Ray players as well. (www.blu-ray.com/faq/)

If your player is still covered by the warranty the company that makes your player should cover the costs. If you don't have the warranty call the company anyway and see if you can't make a deal with them to repair it cheaply. I did that with Sony, and struck a deal to repair the player for $60 (they originally wanted me to pay $120), so long as I could show proof of purchase and that the player was in good condition (it suddenly stopped playing after a firmware update). Sony even paid for the shipping.

how much does it cost the producer to create one blu-ray player unit? I know that there are different kinds of blu-ray players, such as the one by LG that plays hd-dvd and blu-ray. a solid price (not average) would be really appreciated.

it probably costs in the $600 dollar range to make one and they are selling them for around $800 currently with a $599 player to market this summer. prices are going to drop fast though as they get cheaper and cheaper to make. i would expect to see a 399 before xmas.

I've been looking around online for different blu ray players and what is a solid blu ray player that runs for less than 200? I looked around seen some stuff from samsung and panasonic also i looked at the ps3 but i'm not sure how that blu ray is compared to others.

For under $200 you will not be able to purchase the best blu-ray player. However, there are a couple of very good choices that I have done some research on.

The first is the Panasonic DMP BD60 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player. It is an excellent player for its cost and retails for under $130 at Amazon right now. The PS3 is a good choice, too. It is considered a very reliable blu-ray player with the added bonus that it is a gaming station. If you can use that function, then it is a great choice. is the ability to use pandora, blockbuster, or netflix on a blu ray player by connecting it to the internet worth the cost? i mean should i bother spending the money for a blu ray wireless adapter just for that?

Some Blu Ray players download updates through the internet, it would be worth it for you to buy the adapter if your Blu Ray player does download updates.

As for Netflix, I'm assuming you'll be watching their instant movies. In that case, you will have to consider your internet download speed and the quality of the movies (in case resolution is important to you). If you have a medium to slow connection the image resolution in which you'll see the instant movie will be low. If you have a pretty fast internet connection, then you'll be able to watch them in HD. Now as far as I know, you can use Netflix instant viewing through an XBox 360, PS3, or Roku Player. Before I even buy an adapter I would make sure I can use my Blu Ray player with what you're trying to do.

As for Pandora, I personally don't use it, but if I was you I would consider three things. How much I use it, how am I using it right now, would using it through the blu ray player be worth it.

I do not use blockbuster.

You don't. It is not practical as evidenced by all the other answers. The only way to do it with practicality is to buy a surround preamp / processor and powered speakers but such will cost far more than a surround receiver. Unless you have some kind of receiver - phobia this is not practical. You can not just plug speakers into a blu ray or DVD player, there is no magical adapter - unless you consider a receiver an adapter. Now choose a best answer.
