How to get Blu-ray on my new 27-inch iMac?

Apple's new iMac all-in-one desktops impressed me, especially the massive 27-inch model. But I am left wondering what happened to the Blu-ray drive option.

I have a memorex Blu ray player that i got for christmas. When i tried to watch Horton Hears a Who, however, it said i needed a firmware update to watch..

i tried several times to download the firmware on to a CD-R disc and put it in the player, but it never worked. Can somebody help? Is there any way Memorex would send me a CD with the firmware already on it?

i have a Mac.

Well, i dont have a Memorex blu ray player, but i have a Sony. when you download the firmware, you cannot burn it to a disk as a data CD, you have to do the Burn Image option in your burning software. i just did this yesterday with my Sony, so it should be the same with Memorex.

Sony offers that you can request a free firmware CD via mail, so i'd imagine that Memorex does too, contact their support.

Macintosh and Windows are completely different. It is like a Blu Ray disk and a DVD. The Blu Ray can only work on Blu Ray players. The DVD can be played in every DVD/Blu Ray player. Mac's aren't made for games and Windows is. It is just the way they are made that makes them different and that is that. Sorry that you have a Mac. Mac's are overpriced pieces of junk that don't let you do anything and don't let you run any software/game. Hope this helps.

Id like a camcorder. Couple year older is fine i can get it on ebay that records in HD and is compatible to download onto my Mac. AND that if I want I can burn onto a disc and watch them with HD quality on my 1080 Tv?
I would also like to edit the videos once downloaded so I can make movies so i want the software to be all recognized.

The MacBook Air and some MacBooks have no firewire port so that takes miniDV tape camcorders off the table - but just for them. ALL other Macs made in the last 10 years have a firewire port. If the Mac is running OSX, has an Intel CPU and is running iMovie '08 or newer, then AVCHD camcorders will get along.

This gets the high definition video into the computer for editing...

Now for output...

Assuming you have a Blu Ray player connected to your HDTV, you should get a Blu Ray burner connected to your Mac... LaCie makes good ones...

Another option is to connect your Mac to the HDTV - no need to burn a disk. Or get a MacMini to be a media server. The new ones can connect using either HDMI or component (+ audio).

Which DVD player...
If you have only a regular DVD player, there is nothing you can do to *make* it play high definition video, so just use iDVD and have it downsample the high def video to standard def and render for you.

But you have not supplied enough information and we don't know what you have so we don't know if your specific environment is equipped to do what you want.

Quite obviously, my iTunes works on my PC, but I was looking at the requirements on my digital copy paper (it's one of those that comes with a Blu-Ray) & it talks about WMP & Windows requirements or iTunes & Mac requirements. So, I just wanted to double-check that my digital copy will work when I download it for iTunes via PC before I waste a one-time-only download. Thanks for your help!

No, Mac is not necessary, PC can do the job. Actually, you can use Windows Media Player to download the digital copies to computer, then transfer it to iTunes and sync it to iPod.
