I have a blu ray player built in to my laptop?

michaelint

But i can not play my blu ray movie. What sowftware do i need that is FREE.
thanks

Answer
All laptops I know of come with player software. I'd be very surprised if yours didn't too. Since there are royalty costs for drivers you probably won't find freeware players, but check the link for a test of 4 players.

Any freeware software to play BD disc on PC?

Kawazaki

The thing is I bought a Blu-ray drive for my laptop but I can't play BD discs in WMP so I'm looking for a third party freeware to play BD discs.

10 points for best answer.

Answer
If you bought a Blu-Ray drive it should have come with a CD/DVD disk that will install the necessary codecs to play Blu-Ray on the computer including WMP.

You may need to use the player that came on the disk rather than WMP if it did not contain the correct codec. The codec must match the make and model of the Blu-Ray drive and the operating system of the computer.

I would start at the website of the maker of your Blu-Ray drive.

Can I play HD home videos on a dvd on my blu-ray player?

joshin

I have a Flip Ultra HD camcorder that takes video in 720p. I don't have a BD burner in my computer, just a DVD burner. Is there any way that I can burn my home videos to a DVD that will play on my blu-ray player in HD?

I know that I could burn a regular DVD, but all of my videos will be reduced to 480p. (At least that is my understanding.) I own a copy of Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0, or I would be willing to download any other reputable freeware that will get the job done. I just don't even know what to search for.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Answer
If i have got this right you want to burn an Hd video onto a standard DVD, if that right then its not going to work. But you can play standard DVD's on blue ray players.

Can I burn a Mkv/hdx264 to dvd and play on blu ray player?

Messenger

Can I burn a Mkv/hdx264 to dvd and play on blu ray player..Just to save money on discs because blank blu ray disks are so expensive. Looking to purchase blu ray player that plays mkv/x264 etc. any experience.

Answer
Yes, you can. But not sure the quality would be as good as you expect/source video.
Besides, do you confirm your blu-ray player supports playing a DVD (as I know, most blu-ray players do support DVD playback, too).
You can use a freeware named Any Video Converter to burn the MKV video file to DVD, it should not take much time for the burning process complete. If you find the program cost too much time for the burning, then I advise you could convert the MKV to MP4 firstly, then burn the new MP4 file to blank DVD disc, that can save some time as per my experience.

Is it possible to play blu-ray movies in windows media player?

Phil

I'm using Windows XP. The computer is a sony laptop w/ blu-ray RW drive. I know that there are third party apps that play blu ray, but is there a way to get this done in WMP?

Answer
If the movie is encoded using MTS it may be possible w/ third-party plugins. Otherwise, you may have to settle for using programs like PowerDVD or Nero ShowTime.

Freeware programs like VLC and GOM player should play them just fine. You need something that recognizes all blu-ray codecs - MPEG2 (MTS - MPEG transport stream), AVC (h.264), and VC1.

Which is the best software to decode and shrink?

Answer
How to Copy Encrypted or Copy-Protected DVD

Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc (DVD) is quite commonly used nowadays due to its huge storage advantage. However, most commercially produced DVDs are always protected with the Content Scramble System (CSS), a digital rights management scheme that is widely used. Manufacturers or producers use CSS keys set which is a collective term for authentication key, player key, title key, disc key, second disk key set, and/or encrypted key to protect the discâs content from being duplicated by unauthorized parties. What can you do if you want to copy or make duplications of a protected DVD?

Technically, you can seek help from some freeware and shareware available that can help to solve your problem to copy a protected DVD.

DVD43

You can try out DVD43. DVD43 is a free decrypter or CSS encryption breaking program that can help you to duplicate copy-protected DVDs. i have used it to copy DVD movies and it works well. The installation program is pretty simple: just run the setup file and leave the shortcut icon on your task bar. This program will run in the background and decrypt movies on the fly. When you want to use it, you just insert the DVD which you want to copy and wait for DVD43 to detect it. After that you can start duplicating the DVD with your DVD copy software.

Pavtube DVD Copy

It is an easy to use and powerful DVD copy tool. The program makes it possible to copy DVD to DVD with excellent DVD copying quality.
it is very easy for beginner!! see the main interface.

With Pavtube DVD Copy, you own the most efficient way to create backup copies of your DVD movie collection. These working copies allow you to play your DVDs on home and computer DVD players every day without the inevitable risk of getting your originals scratched or damaged. You get disc protection with no loss of playback quality.

The program contains functions of DVD burner. So it can not only copy DVD movie to ISO file or DVD folder and backup DVD to hard disk drive, but also burn ISO file and DVD folder to DVDs.

DVD Shrink

DVD Shrink is a useful program to back up DVD discs. This freeware can also be used in conjunction with a DVD burning software such as Nero to make copies of the DVD video disc. This software supports Windows 9x/2000/XP. DVD Shrink operates in quite a similar way to DVD43 and other decrypter programs.

DVD Decrypter
This is another software that can be used to decrypt copy-protected DVD. Besides, DVD Decrypter can also record images to disc. The software is free and the new release DVDDecrypter 3.5.4.0 is free for downloading.
Click here to download:http://www.vgmcentral.com/dvddecrypter/index.htm

DVDFab HD

DVDFab HD Decrypter is a simple version of DVDFab Platinum. It copies entire DVD movie to hard disk, and removes all the protections (CSS, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs and Sony ARccOS) while copying. It also comes with full HD-DVD and Blu-Ray support (Removes AACS).

SmartRipper

SmartRipper is a DVD VOB file extractor (so called "DVD ripper"). The program is loaded with nice features like per-chapter splitting of VOB files, angle processing, etc. It also displays statistics such as length, size, and max/min/average bitrate for every chapter and active selection.

The only Problems someone might have with it is Ripping a DVD with one of the Newer Bad Sector Copy protections because this Program only supports Breaking CSS Encryption but becides that it is Great and it is the Only ripper I have used were I can Rip a DVD as a Single M2V Video file and an AC3 audio file or as Just a single Vob file with Just the streams in it you want.....

Milk

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could give me the name of an open source programme or a free-ware programme that I could use to rip/ burn (sorry, I am not sure what the difference is) CDs onto my hard drive. I have tried to do it using Windows Media Player but things got a bit hairy.

Thanks for your answers.

Answer
What you want is a ripper.

A ripper pulls information off of an optical disk, a burner puts it onto the disk.

CDeX is good - http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/ and so is AudioGrabber - http://www.audiograbber.org/

If you want a burner then CDBurnerXP is good - http://cdburnerxp.se/en/home

Don't worry about the name, it will burn anything including Blu-Ray and works on all versions of Windows including Vista and Windows 7.

Kyro

Can I plug it into a tv usb and just play movies off a hard drive?

Answer
First of all, I assume you're talking about an external hard drive. The answer is yes and no.

Some TVs will recognize the drive directly connected and some won't. Which is why I advise against plugging into a TV and instead using an intermediary device like a DVD player, PS3, Wii, XBOX360, or like a Blu Ray player or something else which has external hard drive support.

Next, you have to format the drive to FAT32. I found a nice little free app that does it well. E-mail me at hogger129@gmail.com and I will give you a link to it. It's quick and easy to use. You can also use the Command Prompt on your computer, but it takes a lot longer.

Next, you have to realize that the FAT32 file system makes it so that you cannot have any files over 4GB. Just the limits of the system. NTFS is better, but so far, I have not found any kind of devices like I mentioned above that will recognize an NTFS drive - just computers.

You will need a program to rip your DVD or Blu Ray movie or whatever you want to make a copy of onto your external drive. I recommend DVDFab. It's payware, but it works and works well. Other alternatives if you would rather have freeware are DVD Shrink and Freemake Video Converter. Shrink makes an iso image file and Freemake will convert it into the proper format.

I would recommend converting your rips to generic .avi since nearly all those devices I mentioned above will recognize it. PS3 and Blu Ray players will recognize .mp4, but I recommend using generic .avi since it will also work on PS3 and Blu Ray players as well as the other devices I mentioned above.

Then that's it.

If you have trouble, let me know and I can make a YouTube video on it.
