Does an external Blu Ray player work on a Samsung Google Chromebook?

Q. I am possibly getting a Samsung Google Chromebook and I am mainly getting a new laptop for school and to watch my Blu Rays or DVDs anywhere. I want to get an external Blu Ray but I only want to get a laptop if it will be able to play my blu rays or DVDs on the external one. Plus I figure the 6.5 hour battery will come in handy for movies. I just want to know if it will play on that?

2 problems:
1: Most laptops do not have a video INPUT. They do have a video OUTPUT so you can connect them to a projector/monitor/TV but not for using your laptop's monitor for your blu-ray player.

2: The Chromebook is not a standard Windows or MacOS laptop. It runs a special version of Linux and is focused mainly on running a web browser, its plugins and related apps. For this reason, I would not recommend a Chromebook for a college student.

But I want to focus on the results of my search for a player. While only recommended for those who value excellent video and audio performance over loading speed and "the latest" features, the best deal right now is, arguably, the Pioneer BDP51FD from 6th Avenue Electronics. This is the $600 MSRP model that is in all important ways is almost the same as the $800 MSRP Pioneer Elite BPD-05FD ... but is on sale for $284. (link 1). Most professional reviews were on players with early firmware. Since V1.17 (Current V1.25a) this player has really come into it's own.

The main pros are: excellent build quality and components; exemplary DVD scaling, CD audio quality (Audiophiles rate it as one of the best CD players available), and BD video quality; multichannel analog audio with built in support for Dolby TrueHD (and DTS HD master to follow via a firmware update); excellent "tweekability".

The main cons are: it is Profile 1.1 (and can't be updated to 2.0 ... which means no internet connectivity for updates or on-line extras ... but relative to audio and video quality this is relatively unimportant); relatively slow DVD layer change on some disks, limited bass management over analog audio outs, some reports of sensitivity to scratches on disks.

The second link is to an owners thread ... and many posts point out that this is one of the best Blu-ray players out there in terms of performance and quality. Overpriced at $600, but a steal at $284. Most of what you need to know is in the first few posts at the second link (e.g. #7).

Wifi enabled means it has it's own Wifi adapter built in. Wifi ready means it will do wifi if you buy a wifi adapter (usually a USB Dongle). what to look for depends on what you want. Some have netflix and pandora apps some do not. Some have a hard time playing some movies. so I would google Blu ray player reviews and find the best one for you.

What is something I can use to play digital movies on my TV?

I bought an external hard drive. I want to play my digital movies on my TV. I have a Panasonic Vera that won't play MP4 (the format my movies are in). I know i can just convert them but the file browser is also very clunky and unattractive. I also have an Xbox and Samsung Blu-Ray player. My Xbox wants me to format the drive before i can use it, and the blu-ray player works, but it is extremely clunks and unattractive as well, which will work for a while, but i don't play to use it in the long run. Is there something I can buy that i can plug my 1TB hard drive into that plugs into my TV and can browse files and play video other that my laptop? or maybe some device i can buy that i can put my movies onto that is designed exactly for what i described i want to do?

If that doesn't work, the Roku an WDTV look awesome. but, so if i plug the harddrive into my router, how would i access the files from my TV and stream them? I stream movies all over the house using our home Wi-Fi network and our computers to play the files (either from system HDD or external) either with Tversity media streaming software (there is a limited function free version we use, and a more comprehensive paid version), and also using a free program called PMS - Playstation Media Server, using the DLNA capability of the PS3 as a media server to stream wirelessly. It's free to download and use and is very capable and functional. So the options are huge - takes a little learning to pick the best for you... Good luck!

They are from the Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 underwater and out of the water camera and i have burned them to a DVD-R disc through my computer and am looking to watch on tv on our Sony Blu-Ray player. I have tried loading the disc but it displays a message saying that the disc format cannot be played. What do I do?
