How do I hook up my Sony Blu Ray Player to the internet?

I have a wired Blu Ray player. I followed all the instructions. When I check the connection, it says that everything is fine, but as soon as I try to connect with anything involving the internet, it shows the connection has failed. I'm normally great with technology, but this madness has me stumped. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

There's several models, so let's assume for the moment that they are all similar.

It's always an issue of the IP address, or the encryption and the password. It may be that you do not have a compatible device. Wi-Fi should be faster than wired, and probably the best way to go.

Why buy a blu-ray player if you have a PlayStation 3?

I don't understand why people would buy a stand-alone blu-ray player when the when (up to this point) the Playstation 3 has been cheaper. It seems like they are paying more for a product that can do less. Can the stand-alone blu-ray players do more then the blu-ray player on the playstation 3? If so, how much better is it?

Actually I beg to differ with some of the comments above.

Yes true, having a stand alone blu-ray player might last longer as it is dedicated to only playing bluray as opposed to the PS3 being a gaming system. But what PS3 has to offer outside of bluray playback is vastly better from gaming, storing videos, music, and browsing the internet.

Setbacks:
No remote control (not a big factor in my opinion, you can get the $25 bluray remote)
No dedicated chip set (Ps3 playback uses the Cell processor)

If you actually looked up reviews with PS3 vs. stand alone, its actually BETTER than most stand alone blu-ray players out there at a performance per cost stand point.

The fact that the PS2 did have issues of freezing and worse picture quality with DVD playback, does not mean it will be just the same on the PS3. There's been no hard evidence of PS3's breaking down due to bluray, more than any other piece of electronic equipment. And yes I'm sure there have been minor issues with bluray, but thats consumer electronics for you...besides, the PS3 is cheaper.

I have a sony BDP S480. Its a 3D Blu ray player and it is quite badly out of sync. I have tried the A/V sync option and that just makes it worse. If it makes a difference the tv is a Samsung UE40D6530 LCD/LED HD 1080p 3D TV.

Many home theaters have the ability to inject various delays in the audio stream to deal with this very issue. Don't know how the TV deals with it. This is something you can't auto fix.

What's the best possible solution to get a DVD or Blu-Ray player go to "sleep" after a period of time?

Every night I go to bed I put on a DVD and fall asleep to it. I've been running though DVD players though as they tend to not appreciate running on the menu over and over all night long. I'd like a solution to put this issue to rest; whether it be a DVD or Blu-Ray player with a sleep function, a universal remote, or something else. What would be the best way to make this work?

Will I be able to notice the difference on a 24" TV when using a blu ray player?

I am considering buying a Blu ray player to use on a 24" 1080p TV, my question is will I be able to notice the difference or will it just be a waste of £75?

Not as simple a question as it sounds.

Quick answer ... Doubtful ... although if you sit close enough (less than 6') and have good eyesight you may see some slight improvement in picture sharpness. You will be getting a bit different colour to DVD too, but without an A/B comparison you probably won't notice.

To provide some data, a study done by Toshiba a few years back showed that about 25% of viewers so NO difference between DVD and Blu-ray of the same movie on identical 40" 1080p HDTVs, and a further ~25% saw slight differences, but not enough to justify the higher cost.

The reality is that Blu-ray CAN be a significant improvement on DVD under the right conditions, but many things can result in it being at best a slight improvement. Some things that bear on the issue: size and resolution of the display, viewing distance, eyesight of the viewer, how the display is connected (HDMI or other), how the DVD is played (good upscaling DVD players CAN give virtually an identical result to Blu-ray under some conditions), quality of the original material and how it was mastered (Some Blu-ray versions of movies are actually poorer than older DVD versions, at least to some viewers).

That all said, Blu-ray players are now relatively cheap, so IF you need a new player (i..e don't have an upscaling DVD player with HDMI output) a Blu-ray player is BOTH an upscaling DVD player and a Blu-ray player. This would be a good choice also if you buy movies and are considering whether to buy Blu-ay of DVD now. On the other hand if you rent movies and have a good DVD player and don't plan to upgrade your TV any time soon don't waste your money.

EDIT: Once again (sigh!) I have to disagree with Grumpy Mac. HD vs SD TV is NOT the same as DVD vs Blu-ray. The former is quite obviously different, while DVD, even on the most basic non-progressive DVD player will still look fairly close to Blu-ray quality on a 24" HDTV.

I recently changed my password for my Netflix account due to breach issues. Now when i try to enter my Netflix in my Blu-Ray player it keeps telling me error and crashes. Is there a way to logout from my Blu-Ray player in order to activate my device again? Or is there a way to reset my Blu-Ray to factory settings so it loses that information? My Blu ray is a Samsung smart Blu-ray

Are you entering the new password on the bluray? Also make sure the bluray is listed on your Netflix account under active devices

It just seems too good to be true.

So you can purchase a PS3 with a blu ray player for 400. Yet, to buy a blu ray player individually, you would have to pay 400-600.

To my knowledge, there are no issues with the Blu-ray disc player on the PS3. In fact, the PS3 has generally been acclaimed as a very decent Blu-ray player, and great for value.

Sony has been using the PS3 as a platform to promote the Blu-ray disc as next-gen format. As a result, until this year, Sony actually was performing at a loss/break-even in terms of profit for the PS3 division (as a result of the 'low' pricing). Supposedly they have started entering the profit band now since manufacturing costs have come down (cheaper Blu-ray & cell production, no more emotion chip needed, etc.).

Certainly, the PS3 is not a dedicated Blu-ray player, so some of the specialized players you buy may offer some customization and adjustments you can't find on the PS3. But in terms of playback, there should be absolutely no issues with the PS3.

The PS3 is being promoted as not just a gaming system, but as a full-fledged home media entertainment system. Because of this, in addition to Blu-ray, the PS3 includes capabilities to play DVDs, CDs, SACDs, and various PC media formats like mp3s, avis, mpgs as if it were an HTPC, so you should expect it will play Blu-rays as well as any other player.
