Will my Laptop work good as a Blu-Ray Player?

Austyn C

Im wondering if I hook my laptop to the TV im about to get if it will play blu-ray movies as good as a Blu-Ray Player will.
And can my Graphics card play blu-rays at 120HZ in 1080P?
I will be using an HDMI 1.3 Cable to connect them togather.

My laptop is the HP dv7
Intel i5-460M 2.53GHz (2.8GHz TurboBoost)
ATI Radeon HD 5470 (512MBs Dedicated video RAM, 3,226MBs Total avalable Video RAM)
6GB DDR3
Built in Blu-Ray player and HDMI Port

TV specs
Vizio, 47" LED Edge let LCD HDTV
1080P
120Hz
First of all nobody that has answered this question know what there talking about!
All I want to know is if it will work as good as a Blu-Ray Player or not! If it will not than I will get a better graphics card! Blu-Rays players do not work the best, I can get a graphics card that will allow 600+ Frames per second and a resolution twice that of a Blu-Ray Player!
Don't Comment unless you have a good answer and Facts to back it up!

Answer
it won't work you need a blu-ray player to play blu-rays.. a blu-ray player will, however, play DVDs

I was wondering if i could hook up my laptop to my samsung blu ray player to watch on my tv?

Answer
You can not connect your laptop to a blu ray disc player. The blu ray disc player has no input connection, just output. You can connect your laptop to the tv along with your blu ray disc player.

What does it mean by optional blu ray player on my laptop?

Sally

i just bought a dell inspiron 14 t4200 laptop and its amazing but i was just wondering on the setup guide is says plays or burns cd's, dvd's, blu ray discs (optional) so what does that mean? does it play them or do u have to buy something to make it play them

Answer
It means you would have to go to Dell, and customize that Inspiron 14 so that it included a Blue Ray player.

http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/notebooks/laptop-inspiron-14/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-inspiron-14&s=dhs&cs=19
Scroll down and look at the three featured systems. Notice the green Build It Your Own Way button. Click that, and begin to customize your Inspiron 14. You will note that you can choose to have a Blue Ray drive in the unit. So the Optional notation, is just to let you know that is is POSSIBLE to play Blue Ray discs on an Inspiron 14, if you have purchased an Inspiron 14 with a Blue Ray player.

External blu ray player?

I have a toshiba 15.6 inch laptop with an I7 quad core with a speed of 2.4 Ghz and a turbo boost to 3.4 Ghz. It has 8gb of ram intel HD 4000 graphics I wanted to know if I could add an external blue ray player via USB so I could watch blu ray DVDs on it. If I can then which blu ray player is great for the money that is compatible with my laptop
How do I check if my laptop can handle 1080P resolution ?

Answer
Most USB Blu-ray external drives will work with most PCs/laptops. Your only concern will the the native resolution of the laptop screen. If that screen supports 1080 then you should be OK. If not, you're wasting your money.

I am travelling from Orlando (USA) to Geneva (Switzerland), and i bought a new laptop and blu-ray player. I also have my old laptop. And i am not confident putting any of those in my baggage so i would like to know if its allowed to have them in a single backpack on security checks.

Answer
Yes, you can. I've carried two laptops before - one for home and one for the office - when I moved to Italy. You'll have to take those things out of the backpack and run them through the scanner at security separately. You may also be asked why you have two, but there should be no problems. You definitely shouldn't be putting things like that in a checked bag.

What type of Router classification is best to hook up a laptop and a blu ray player or television?

john w

i have just gotten cable vision internet service. i am going to get a wireless router. I will use it for my laptop. In addition I have heard that you can get Net Flix movies over the internet that use a special blu ray player or tv. Do i need an N rated router or more like a N+ or does it matter?

Answer
Hi John w;

The N standard is the newest and is backwards compatable with the other standards. The N standard will give you the fastest transfer rate, so it is in your best interest to get a N router.

Enjoy the movies!

Can I connect my Samsung Blu Ray player to the internet by plugging it in to my laptop with a cat5 cable?

Jade

I am trying to update my blu ray player and I do not have a wireless adapter. My router is too far away from my player to run a cable directly to it. I have tried to plug it directly in to my laptop and it recognizes it as an unidentified public network. It shows it as an local area connection with no network access. I am stumped and not very computer literate.

Answer
What I did for an update firmware is tell the manufacturer that I have no internet connection at home and only use my work and can not download it. So they sent me a disc to update my firmware. Hope this will help you out.
