PS3 is by far the best. You get the CELL Processor, gaming system, internet browser, the ability to hook up a keyboard and mouse, YellowDog Linux open, amazing load times on movies, 1080p resolution, up-scales DVD's and up to 7 controllers at one time.

The PS3 from reviews and critics alike is being regarded as the BEST Blu-Ray player. I personaly own a 60GB PS3 and watch Blu-Ray on it all the time. It is also worth the great price. All that stuff for 500 or 600 dollars.....fantastic.

Does an external Blu Ray player work on a Samsung Google Chromebook?

I am possibly getting a Samsung Google Chromebook and I am mainly getting a new laptop for school and to watch my Blu Rays or DVDs anywhere. I want to get an external Blu Ray but I only want to get a laptop if it will be able to play my blu rays or DVDs on the external one. Plus I figure the 6.5 hour battery will come in handy for movies. I just want to know if it will play on that?

No.

2 problems:
1: Most laptops do not have a video INPUT. They do have a video OUTPUT so you can connect them to a projector/monitor/TV but not for using your laptop's monitor for your blu-ray player.

2: The Chromebook is not a standard Windows or MacOS laptop. It runs a special version of Linux and is focused mainly on running a web browser, its plugins and related apps. For this reason, I would not recommend a Chromebook for a college student.

How to hardcode subtitles on a movie?

I was wondering how i could *hardcode* subtitles onto a movie (.mp4, .mkv). I do NOT want to have the option to turn off the subtitles. I want to permanently embed the subtitles onto the movie file. Is there any application that i could do this with on a mac? everything i have tried still gives me the option to turn them off. For this reason, my blu ray player will not read the .srt file. I must permanently overlay the subtitles onto the movie. Any solutions?

I know you have to mux the subtitle file and I'm familiar with MKVMerge GUI a Linux and Windows program. I've looked everywhere for a Mac program, forcing Google to use as many synonyms as I could think of, with no luck:-( Either a program is for Windows or, if it's a Mac program, it's older than the hills and no longer supported. I'm sure you can mux subtitle files with Final Cut Pro, or probably the Sony Vegas Pro everyone recommends but I'm just as sure that you probably don't want to spend $800 or more to embed subtitle files.

You might have better luck getting some help if you posted this question on an Apple forum.

I found a mod software (dd-wrt.org) that changes an old router into an adapter for xbox 360. HAs anyone used this? If so, can I connect different devices to the router (the router has 4 ports on it) say a Blu-Ray player and an old computer. If anyone knows of any other similar software and has successfully used it, please, let me know.

There are a couple of these "open source" firmwares for routers that do well extend the routers usefulness. dd-wrt is certainly good, do check to be sure that your router is supported and read all the data about how to install the firmware. You can "brick" a router if done incorrectly. The other one that might work is OpenWrt http://openwrt.org/

You should be able to set the router into a "Bridge" mode which allows it to be used as a "client" and connect to another router. That would provide you with four ethernet outlets. You can also buy wireless bridges which do that by design. I have used both openwrt and dd-wrt. DD-WRT is my preference but it all depends on which router you own. Its been some time but I did have some getting started issues. The more you understand Linux the easier the setup becomes.

How do you burn video DVD's using Zenwalk Linux?

Can't for the life of me figure out how to burn a dvd that will play on my DVD player with Linux. Tried the program DeVeDe but nothing ends up burning to the disc actually. Help!
I am on Zenwalk Linux, not a Mac and not Windows. Programs that are specifically Windows programs generally do not work. The program needs to be Linux based program.

What is the difference between the PS3 and the PS3 SLIM?

I am looking to buy a Playstation 3 soon, but want to know what the difference is... Also what is a recomended hard drive size? Also can you play both regular DVD's and BLUE RAY on both?

The slim plays BLU RAY, not blue, and so does the fat ps3 as well, and yes they play regular dvds too....the only difference are the following

1. the slim cant play ps2 titles; the 20gb, 60gb, and 80gb can, but they dont make those any more so you'll have to go to Gamestop to look for one refurbished

2. the slim has a much larger hardrive, 120gb, which is nice because the ps3 uses alot of space, so a 20gb ps3 i wouldnt recommend, i have an 80gb and ive got about 12 gb of free space left after deleting all my movies and shows i saved to my hardrive

3. the fat ps3 could be used as a computer via installing linux onto it giving it a desktop and all seeming like a real computer, the slim ps3 cannot do this

4. there are two fewer usb ports on the slim then on the old ps3

5.im not certain, but ive heard the quality of the slims blu ray player is a little less than should be

I want to buy a blu ray disk dirve and the ones on newegg you have to pay to install the drivers?

A reliable blu ray internal disk player for my rig the ones om newegg are oem so you have to BUY and install the software to actually use the blu ray whoch I think is stupid because why buy a blu ray drive just to pay more to make it work would rather it be on newegg so I cam order all my parts together Ive searched but perhaps you know a player that doesnt need that shiz I am aware that the software is free om linux however I am not willing to change os or make my system a dual boot just for a blu ray drive

there are many oem drives that come with software
its not drivers, as any windows system already has drivers.
it just the utilities for the drive.
some free utilities are better than others but i dont understand your problem.
Maybe its because newegg are offering better paid for utilities.

to play Blu Ray VLCplayer should be fine.

Using my TV's Ethernet port to play ripped Blu-Ray movies directly from my computer?

I would eventually like to start my collection of Blu-Rays, but I had an idea that instead of buying a Blu-Ray player and hooking it up to my TV, I would just buy a Blu-Ray writer for my PC and rip the movies to play directly from my computer. Would this work? How does the quality and performance compare as to playing it from the disk on a BR player?

What you need is a way of streaming media to your tv. You need to find out wether your tv accepts media servers...eg. servio, xbmc, plex. and does it use services like samba and or upnp. If yes then use your pc to stream files via either upnp samba to your tv with a one of the above programs ( there are more like mediatomb for linux.)

The quallity will stay the same so long as you ripped the blueray without compressing or lowering quality.

Just make sure the connection can stream fast enough for the film to buffer. I recomend using a direct LAN connection or homeplugs with a gigabit connection.
