Turn computer into blu ray player?

Can i buy a blue ray dvd player and hook it up to my hdtv? Do i just use the hdmi cable or do i have to buy a special adapter. i have 3 dvi slots 1 hd video thing and 1 hdmi port. Please help i want to watch transformer 2 on blue ray when it comes out.

You will need a video card with HDMI output/HDCP ready

Sony BDP-BX37 or LG BD550 for first blu ray player?

I am trying to buy my first blu ray player and am finding it very difficult. I am undecided between these two models. I will mainly be using the player to play dvd's/blu ray discs and netflix, nothing too in-depth. I have done a lot of research on both but I do not understand the specs listed or the differences between the two players. Which would be the better choice for a first time blu ray buyer like myself? Please help!

Visit newegg.com, then navigate to list all the bluray player that they sell. On the top right, sort the list by clicking most reviews. Customers of newegg are fanatical about writing reviews of the product(s) they have bought. I recently saw that there were over 4000 people who wrote a review about a single CPU heatsink/fan unit model! Pick out the players at the top of the list and read what the people had to say about the model they bought. Newegg is a very reputable company, they have low prices, fast and great(sometimes free) shipping. They carry both models you are considering. Read the reviews. I am a home theater installer, and recently picked out and installed a pioneer receiver and the Sony BDP-S370( i believe the bx37 is the newer/equivalent) player. The customer loves her bluray. Also, just google reviews of both those models. "Much, you will learn." Now, if you want a wireless connection to netflix, go with the BDP-S570/ BX57. WiFi is built-in on these models. Personally, for streaming, I would want a wired ethernet connection.

outdated surround sound and blu ray player?

So my mom and I just bought a simple LG BP135 to replace our 10 year old DVD player. With our DVD player we had bought a surround sound system, also JVC. being 10 years old, it has no spot for HDMI. I don't see an optical output spot either and we also have a new HDTV. Is there anyway we can get surround sound when we're watching movies or tv? Or do we have to upgrade? Would rather not have to buy a new system because money is tight.

No, if you want the full hidef quality of HDMI video feeds, then you DO need a new or at least new-to-you surround sound system that has HDMI inputs and outputs.

There are great deals on receivers and speakers on Newegg.com right now, so you could get a Polk 6750 speaker system for $200, and a Pioneer 522K audio/video receiver for $150. That would give you MUCH better sound than the JVC set (JVC is not known for good speakers, for example), and would have all of the modern connectivity that you could want.

Blu Ray player with headphone port?

Can anyone recommend a good BluRay player with a headphone port? Reason being, my speakers can only connect to headphone jacks and the the ones on my tv don't work properly (they cause a lot of popping noise and static) and the speakers on the little Vizio tv are junk. I have really nice speakers and I want to use them and the only way I can do that is if the player has a headphone port. I can't find one, because most sites don't let you filter searches by audio ports :P

Something off amazon or newegg or walmart would be preferable.

Sorry that is not a feature that will be on bluray players. Analog audio ports are now phased out of all current bluray players. If you can find a sony or Panasonic bluray from last year which has the red and white RCA outputs you can get adaptors so you can connect them to your computer speakers.

is there a dvd drive for the pc that can play blu-rays and dvds and cds but not burn any of them
just like a blu-ray player you hook up to your tv

But why should it matter if it burns or not, they will still play both dvd and BluRay discs...I have a bluray/dvd burner in my HTPC and it plays fine. I never installed any burning software, just VLC and Power DVD to play movies.

So you know, All Blu-Ray players are 1080p, it just depends on whether the video card in the computer can support it.

It will cost you about $150 + or minus. $170 for the Plextor one I would suggest you get.

The USB port on that player is for playback of video files from a flash drive. It is not a port for a Wi-Fi adapter.
