what do you think of this player and I have a sony player BDP-S300 will that have problems with newer movies like older players? I can update the firmware and have just wondering if I should look into the market for a new one? the one uptop is for a friend.

Actually, with Blu-Ray player just coming out, and the HD DVD players, i wouldn't buy anything quite yet. after this new technology gets settled in, the prices will come down significantley.

But if you really want a Blu-ray player. that one sounds like a good deal. And it won't have a problem playing newer movies because newer movies are made FOR that. I don't think you can update the firmware...

DVD players can't play blu-ray

you can get basic blu-ray players at stores like Walmart, starting about $50

I am thinking about upgrading my dvd player to a blu-ray as I have purchased a 1080P HDTV. Sony has a unit for $369.00 (Walmart) is this a good price or is it too basic? Help!!!

It really depends on how you plan to use it. Bluray devices will:

Play disks
Record blank disks with video, audio, pictures or data
Connect to Internet for additional content/features
Play high resolution games, locally or on the Internet

If you just want to watch movies, the Sony you've looked at is a fine choice.

If you want to play games, PlayStation 3!

If you want to log onto additional movie content from the Internet, you will need a machine with an ethernet connection, and you will have to connect to your home network with a cable or a wireless bridge

If you want to record blank disks, I'd recommend getting a Bluray burner installed in a computer. You can use an existing (newer powerful) computer or buy a dedicated one for your HDTV.

Okay...There is a such thing as an HD MI cable. It works great! But PLEASE do not waste your money. I went to walmart and the prices reached about $120.00. The next day, I went to five below (the discount store) and found it there for $5.00! THE SAME ONE! With the HDMI cable, you hook one end of it up to the tv and the other to your computer. Hope I helped :)

What's the best Blu-Ray player for a low price?

I wanna get a good Blu-Ray player but I'm on a budget. Are there any good Blu-Ray players for less then $150. I know Walmart has a few for like $80, generally those are the cheaper made systems. I usually prefer Philips, Sony, or Visio. I'm not opposed to LG either.

If you want a dependable blu ray disc player that will last then look at the Panasonic mode BD-75 or 85 which sells for under $100. Those bargain price players are not worth the money and they do not last. I own a first generation Panasonic player model BD-10, which is over 4 years old and played over 300 blu ray disc movies without one problems. Hope this will help you out.

Time to spend with my husband. We have a 'rule' in our household. We never go out the front door (except to put peanuts out for the birds and squirrels under the tree in our front yard) on Black Friday. Fortunately, we have enough money we don't need to 'bargain shop' and we don't like the big crowds. In one Walmart, one employee was crushed to death by stampeding customers, another was injured. Our time was well spent ... but we have to go do some shopping tomorrow, for some more Christmas decorations, and maybe we'll start shopping for each other. Our other gifts are bought and put away already ... at great prices, of course! They've been 'built up' since last January ...
