does anyone know the difference between a blu ray player and and an up converter dvd player with a hdmi cable?

Yeah you see. Whats the difference in the picture quality between a blu ray player with an hdtv and an up converter dvd player with an hdmi cable connected to a hdtv? i know sorry long question but can someone please answer me Thank you.

Yeah the quality of your video is determined by how much information is displayed. Regular DVD might have 480 lines making up the picture. A BlueRay DVD has 1080 lines making up the picture. When you upconvert a regular DVD, you are basically "stretching" the picture out, but you are not getting any more quality out of it. The cable you are using is not going to matter, it is the quality of the source that counts.

For instance, if you have two of the same photo on your computer, one is 320*240 and the other is 1024.768, and you take the smaller photo and increase its size with some editing software to make it 1024.768, you know its not going to look as good as the one that was 1024.768 already. Same idea.

I was just wanted to know if the price is higher on the Blu-ray home theater system because of the Blu-ray player itself. Is there a difference in the quality of the sound produced? Or is it just the fact that one has is just a DVD player and the other is a Blu-ray player?

You have answered your own question. The only difference is the blu-ray player. If you were to play a DVD in both systems, they would sound the same, but blu-ray on its own has better sound and picture than DVD, regardless of the system it's played on. If you want a system that plays blu-ray, get one of those.

What type of HD cable do you need to connect from your blu-ray player to the TV?

I recently got a new HD TV and I already had a blu-ray DVD player, the installer told me to get an even better picture on my TV I should buy a "HD cable" to connect from my blu-ray player to my tv. What type of cable was he talking about and does it really make a lot of difference in picture quality?

HDMI cable which is used for High Definition. There are a couple of different HDMI cables, but the most important to remember is that a $100 cable and $30 one will show absolutely no difference, so don't get caught by those sellers trying to make you buy an HDMI cable for $100.

Generally, you'll want an HDMI 1.3, or if it's for 3D, you'll want 1.4. It usually is written on the box/bag which version it is.

What is the difference between streaming players, and a blu ray player?

I'm new to all of this. We recently bought an LCD tv, and have a netflix account and would like to stream movies from our computer onto our TV. Can a blu ray player also do this? I'm not sure which one we should buy: any of the streaming players, or just a blu ray player. What is the difference? Also, our LCD TV is HD, so will we need a blu ray player to get that HD effect? Thanks!

Buy a simple Blu-Ray with 1080p upconvert facility. So that u can see ur old DVDs also to near HD quality. It will cost u under $99. And get a 15feet HDMI cable from Dollar Store for around $10. See ur netflix movies or anything on net on TV via HDMI cable connection (Computer to TV)
