Issues with Watching an iso File on my PC (3D Blu Ray Movie)?

So I am trying to watch this iso file using dameon tools on my PC. I do the usual...mount the image, then play with VLC player...but it gives me an error: 'VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///E:\'. Check the log for details.'

It is mounted, so does anyone know what the issue might be? Thanks!

Have you been able to watch Blu Ray movies with this setup before?

Is your VLC up to date? (VLC 1.2 or better is needed to watch BluRays)

Try opening the file with Media Player. If it works then you may have to reinstall VLC.

If MediaPlayer will not play it either, chances are it is an encrypted BluRay.

Can I play Blu-Ray files on my computer?

A friend sent me a blu-ray file to look at and I don't know if I can play it on my computer or not. I am using VLC media player (good for Blu-Ray) and I have a Gforce radeon 8400M GS graphics card.

Could i play it? Would it be noticeably better than a dvd?

You aren't playing Blu Ray format, blu ray is just the disc, you have no disc, it's not blu ray. what you have is HD files, to play them, i would reccomend DivX but i haven't tried VLC so i'm not sure. but if you want to know if you can run it, go to you tube, look for a video with a 1080p option and use it, if it runs smoothly, you can probably run it, or you could just try playing the files. it would look a lot nicer than dvd BUT it depends on your monitor, as long as it goes above 480p(which it probably does). Also, you will be able to play it if it is not an ISO file, if it is an ISO file, you will need to burn it and watch it with a blu ray disc or you could mount the ISO on a virtual drive and play it like that(go to youtube for info about that) if it isn't an ISO, you will probably be able to run it

Can you play downloaded blu ray movies without a bluray dvd drive. I have a graphics card and a monitor that would support blu ray movies but i dont have a blu ray dvd drive. Is it possible to download and play blu ray movies without the drive?

If you downloaded an actual Blu-Ray file which is in .iso format, then yes.

If it's .mpeg, .avi or any other extension that isn't .iso it's not Blu-Ray, but is actually a ripped, compressed video file.

There's a reason the movie companies have 30 gigabyte movies and not 2 gigabytes.

Blu-Ray files are usually at least 20-25 gigabytes and can get up to 40 or more gigabytes.

If it's under 1-2 gigabytes it's a compressed video file. The source of the ripped, compresed video may have came from a Blu-Ray disc, but that doesn't make it Blu-Ray. That can usually be played Windows Media Player unless it's encoded with DivX. In that case you will need a free DivX codec found at DivX.com


Blu-Ray discs will be in .iso and are exact image files that require something like daemon tools to read it without burning it to a Blu-Ray disc with an iso program. Iso files - or exact image copies of a Blu-Ray disc- will have menus, chapter selection and everything else Blu-Ray discs themselves have.

I ripped the ISO from a Blu Ray movie I wanted to copy. I tried to just burn the image but neither my player or computer would play the movie.Do I need to convert the ISO into another format?

an iso is an image (archive), not an actual format....
now depending on how you tried to burn it, say only using the built in burner of windows, however, 7 can extract iso archives, all you did was copy the file to the disc...adn no player on this planet reads iso files.

I have tried numerous times to do this and all with no success every time i do it they will play on computer but not dvd player. I guess the real question is is there a certain format the movies need to be in or something? Any detailed advice would be greatly appreciated.

How do they create games for Wii and other systems so that you can't burn illegal copies?

I was wondering how they make games so that you can't copy them unless you have a mod chip. Also what does a mod chip do? I know it lets you play homemade games, but how does it work. Please don't report this question, I am just wondering I am not going to make my own games. Especially because I don't want to break my Wii by modding it. Thanks.

Copy protection methods of recent video game console systems

When Sega's Dreamcast was released 9 September 1999, it came with a newer disc format, called the GD-ROM. Using a modified CD player, one could access the game functionality. Using a special swap method could allow reading a GD-ROM game through a CD-ROM just using common MIL-CD (standard CD Boot loading, commonly found on Windows Installation Discs, Linux LiveCDs, and others). Sega DreamCasts sold after October 2000 contain a newer firmware update, not allowing MIL-CD boot.

The Microsoft Xbox, has a specific function: Non-booting or non-reading from CDs and DVD-Rs as a method of game copy protection. Also, the Xbox is said to use a different DVD file system (instead of UDF). It has been theorized that the discs have a second partition that is read from the outside in (opposite current standards thus making the second partition unreadable in PC DVD drives) which give the tracks the appearance that the disc was spun backwards during manufacture. This format (and the aforementioned hardware lockouts) appears to have been inherited by its successor, the Xbox 360.

The PlayStation 2 has a map file that contains all of the exact positions and file size info of the CD in it. It is stored at a position that is beyond the file limit. The game directly calls the position at where the map file is supposed to be. This means that if the file is moved inside the limit, it's useless since the game is looking outside the limit for it. And it will not work outside of the limit, thus making any copied disc unusable without a mod chip.

The Nintendo's Wii and Gamecube have their own specialty format for copy protection. It is based on DVD/miniDVD (Game Cube) technology; there is a barcode on the edge of the disc. It is not readable on standard DVD-ROM Drives, although some have been able to accomplish this using a certain specific DVD-ROM drive's "debug mode."

The PSP uses the Universal Media Disc, a media format similar to a MiniDisc. It holds about 1.2 GB. Although it cannot be copied, one can make an ISO image and play it on custom firmware using a third-party utility.

The PlayStation 3 uses Blu-ray BD-ROM discs. In addition to any protection provided by the console itself, the BD-ROM format's specification allows for a ROM-Mark which cannot be duplicated by consumer-level recorders.



What does a mod chip do?

The mod chip takes control of your system and removes limitations that were put on by the manufacturer. It can access all the functions of your xBox 360 that have been blocked or restricted. You can import, back-up, homebrew and bypass security features. 9 times out of 10, mod chips are used to play pirated games.

Gaming consoles like the XBox 360, Play Station 3, Nintendo Wii and Gamecube are designed by the company to only play their copyrighted games. These machines also have region codes, like DVD players, so that you canât play a Japanese or Australian version of a game on an American box. In the case of the XBox, you canât play anything that isnât licensed by Microsoft, including your own creations or customized games.

The main reason for these security features is to protect against pirating games. While most mod chip users use the chip to copy games or play pirated games, there is a small minority of amateur coders and serious gamers who use the mod chip to customize their games and get more out of playing them.

Lets start this with an unmodded xbox. It basically works like this. It turns on, plays that little flubber animation, displays the xbox logo, and then looks for a disc in the dvd drive. If the disc meets certain criteria(digital signatures and media flags mainly) it then executes default.xbe off of the root of the disc. If there is no disc in the drive, the xbox then boots xboxdash.xbe(the xbox dashboard) off of it's hard drive.
This is all done by the xbox BIOS.

Some very crafty people managed to obtain this BIOS from the xbox and modify it. The base thing they've done is to remove the requirements for digitally signed software, and also remove the requirements for special media flags for discs put into the dvd drive. This new BIOS is then put onto a flash rom of some sort and wired into the xbox. THe xbox powers up and then executes this new bios instead. The new BIOS does the exact same thing as the original, minus the checks for digital signatures and media flags.

At this point, you can then run unmodded code. The first thing you'll likely run is the Evolution-X dashboard. There are many tutorials on how to set it up, install it on your xbox, etc.

How does a modchip work?

The modchip will generally have a minimum of two i/o connections to the playstation main board. These go to opposite sides of an inverter gate which transmits sub code data information from the CD controller to the main CPU. This data stream indicates the region of the CD in use. By driving the input of this gate logically low, the output is floated. Then on the other side a new data stream can be injected by the mod chip. The data that the CPU is looking for is a serial data stream at 250bps consisting of the characters SCEI, SCEE or SCEA depending on whether the console is Asian, PAL or North American. By sending all three data streams in a rotating sequence, the chip can satisfy the console that it is reading a CD of the appropriate region.
