How do I update my PS3's Blu ray player?????

So I got a new Blu Ray movie and in the begining it said that in order for me to use my disc to it's full potential that I need to update my player... How do I update it??? And dnt tell me to update it on playstation.com cuz I already got the 3.60 version and it stii says it.... HELP

Don't worry about that. That is a standard message on all blu-ray movie discs. The message will disappear after a while and the movie will play just fine. If Sony views a need to update their player, its usually included in firmware updates anyways so you should be good.

Model- BDP S300
My grandad has a sony blu-ray player and it is out of date (has something like firmware update 3.7 on it when it should be 5.5).
It is out of date and i have had problems while putting the disk into the player- it says the disk cannot be read. I burned 2 disks with the same software (disks being CD-R Audio). These never worked and the blu-ray player is left unused (recently released disks cannot be read on the old firmware version).

It had only just been released at time of purchase so doesnt have an internet connection or USB port like current ones- which would be a lot easier.

MY QUESTION IS
does Sony send out a disk if requested if i have problems doing this? I guess some people who don't have a computer can't get the update so it is sort of annoying how Sony can't spend a few pennies sending out firmware disks. I know the modern/easier way is to use a USB stick but unfortunitally its too old. And no sarcastic comments like "Buy a new one".
PLEASE NOTE- I am NOT American so i cannot receive disks so some reason. The site is different. I guess Sony don't want to help out their British customers the same as their American ones =(

I think Blu-Ray was conceived from the start as a system where the players would all have Internet connectivity and the ability to download content and updates on the fly, but the early models weren't released with full (or any) online functionality, making updating them highly inconvenient.

Anyway, your best bet is to phone Sony up and ask them. If they can't send a disc they should at least tell you how to do it yourself properly - otherwise the player (which must only be a few years old, right?) can't really be described as fit for purpose, can it? And it's not as if Blu-Ray players have yet reached the very cheap price point (like DVD players) where buying a new one would be trivial. Even a "cheap" Blu-Ray player is still something like £100.

Bottom line is if they designed the Blu Ray system so that players would need constant firmware updates to be able to play new discs, they need to offer support for them. They made their bed so they have to lie in it.

Then select your computer's operating system, XP or what ever and dowload the frmware file and burn it to a cdr disk and you now have the firmware to use in your Sony. If you do not have a burner, you can go to the same site and call the number 866-909-7669 to ask them to mail you a cd.

Problems with Sony Blu-Ray Player S570?

I just purchased the Sony Blu-Ray Player BPD-S570. I have it hooked up with my Netflix and I have noticed when i am watching shows from netflix and want to fast-foward the show or rewind it, it does it at the bottom but won't actually show it fastwarding/rewinding on the screen so I can see where I want to stop. Im not sure why it is doing this. I have read some complaints about it not updating or having glitches with shows on netflix. Not sure if this is related. Does anyone have any experiences with this?

Also, Ive noticed that some of the shows from netflix have not so good sound quality. I was watching a Larry the Cable Guy show and it sounded really loud and muffled even with the volume turned down.

Is there another brand of Blu-ray player that is better that is WiFi ready? I have an LG tv.

You dont say what is going wrong, but it looks like you either need
to download the update file and burn to a CD-R,or Sony will send you a free disk.

It cannot be burn as a data disk, you will have to have an image burning program and disk has to be finalized.

To bad Sony did not put an etherner port on this model.

Is there a blu ray player that will connect wirelessly through my router and has RCA connection to my TV?

O want to be able to play Netflix and even Amazon Prime in my bedroom, and I got a Sony blu ray player, but it only has HDMI and my TV has RCA (red,white, yellow and another set with blue And other colors). I realize I can get a converter for about $35, but I think it makes more sense to get a Blu Ray player that has the right hook ups. Does it exist? Thanks!!

You can get one but the picture will not be HD and may be kinda blurry HDMI is the only cable that will carry HD....also the players tend to be expensive and also they are older models that have just not sold out yet...most made before January of 2011 when the Sunset rules took effect...like the Onkyo BDP 809 also the Cambridge Audio 752BD...also you may be able to find on with netflix but probably not Amazon Prime because Amazon Prime is a newer format and I don't think it was being offered in 2010 for Blu ray players...The newer ones that have that tend to be all region free international models and I'm not sure how a region free Blu ray player with wifi works but they do say access your movies on line??? Somehow...Also after doing some research I discovered that the region free models are older models also the newer ones only have HDMI....also it is my understanding that newer Blu ray disks may not play and that if you try and do an update it may disable your player....

I have had a Sony blu ray player for about a year now. Someone told me I should check to see if there are any updates for it. How do I find them and how do you update the blu ray player? Do you connect it to your computer or ? I am sooo confused! Thanks for the help!

Most BluRay players update using an ethernet internet connection. You hook into your router, just like how you hooked up your game console or computer for internet access. The BluRay player just "phones home" and downloads the new updates whenever it needs to. The interval it uses to check for updates might be adjustable in the settings. This is the same internet connection the player would use to access "online" special features (sometimes referred to as "downloadable content").

Some players will let you update using a disc. You go to the manufacturer site. Download the update. unzip/unrar or whatever you have to do to decompress it if it's a compressed file like .ZIP or .RAR. Burn it to a CD. Pop the CD into the player. Depending on the player, you may have to dig into your settings to manually select the update, or it may just be a matter of turning on the machine with the disc in it. I'm not sure if all players offer this feature.

A few even offer the option to update from a USB flashdrive. You just do it the same way as with the offline CD update method. You just use a USB flashdrive instead. This only applies if the unit has a USB port though.

As you said, format compatibility is a feature to consider. Since firmware updates are released regularly, the ability to handle updates wirelessly is a convenient also a convenient (though not necessary) feature. The final important feature I would consider is the player's "profile". Profile 2.0 will allow you to access online "BD Live" content, but at the very least you should go with Profile 1.1.

If I had WiFi I would buy either the Samsung 3600 or the LG 390. If I didn't have WiFi I would go with the Panasonic DMP-BD60. However, the Sony BDP-S360 is a fine player as well.
