how to get internet on sony BDP-S270 blu-ray player?

I just got this blu-ray player at wal-mart and i want to get the internet up and running in it. The lady said it has WIFI but i cant seem to get it working. my PS3 works perfectly with the internet but the blu- ray player dosnt. Help please! Thank you

I just looked at the specs for your Sony-BDP-S270. Apparently that Blu-Ray DVD player does not have built in Wi-Fi. You would have to purchase a separate small wireless Wi-Fi adaptor plug that fits on the back of the dvd player in order to stream the internet from your wireless router (computer) to this dvd player so that you can use Netflix, Youtube etc.

Another way you can stream the internet on your blu-ray dvd player to use Netflix and Youtube is to connect a ethernet cable from your wireless router to the back of your Blu-Ray DVD player.

Remember that blu-ray dvd players do not have a browser to go on to websites on the internet. The internet is needed so that you can run netflix, pandora, youtube on your blu-ray dvd player.

I live in an apartment complex that offers free wifi, I would like to find a blu ray player with a web browser so I can type in the password (voucher) needed to gain internet access on the device. They can get me access now if I give them the MAC address to the device I have now, but they charge a monthly fee for this service. Are there any blu ray players that have a simple web browser?

There are some "Smart" Blu rau players that have web browsers like the Samsung BD ES900 but my understanding is they are hard to use as they do not have a mouse nor a key board so navigating the net can be difficult....

I recently purchased a Sony PS3. I went with the 40GB version because I already have a PS2 and rarely play it. I bought the system mainly for the Blu-Ray player but I thought it would be cool to surf the internet and chat with other players.

I haven't messed around with the system much so forgive a possible stupid question but how in the heck do I get on the net? Do I need an ethernet cord? Helppppppppppp!

For wifi you need a wireless router. For ethernet you connect it to your router.

Goto settings

Goto network settings

Goto network connection, select enable

Goto Internet connection settings just below internet connection-

Push yes when it says you may be disconnected

Select wired or wireless

For wireless use scan or enter manually-
You may have to reset the router (unplug it and replug it in to get the router to recognise the ps3.)

Follow on screen instructions.

Once that is set up return to main menu and go to network near the right

Then once in the internet browser press triangle and goto file and enter the internet address you would like visit.

To connect using a laptop. Just run the ethernet to the laptop and run network saetup on the laptop to get the laptop to allow the ps3 to share the internet connection.

I am not aware of any BluRay player that includes a web browser, let alone a browser that supports flash/html5/silverlight/etc.

Your PC browser gets updated every few days or weeks to remain compatible. BluRay players are NOT PC's.

Go to the website on your PC and watch that way.

Hi, we just got a new sony blu ray player and I was wondering if and how I can Use my cricket broadband internet to get online on my blu ray so we can get nextflix and such. Im not sure if this is possible so i decided to ask. Thanks in advanced!

If your player has an Ethernet jack you need to hook it up directly to your router/modem. I doubt it has a true browser, it may have a couple rental sites that yopu can stream from.

Your broadband device requires you to install the software to use it, hence a computer.
I dont think your Blu-Ray is that advanced... yet.

On a sad note Cricket broadband plans vary from 3 to 5 GB monthly and Netflicks will stream until you hit your monthly allotted then BAM, throttled to 10K and you aint streaming nothing. PS Streamed Netflicks is of low quality and NO where near HD. Regardless of what they tell you.

I know this cause I am on it right now....

I really want to go through the internet on my tv and have some apps just like twitter, youtube, netflix, facebook, etc.
I know a smart tv has lots of apps but they're quite expensive, I need dvd/blu-ray player so I was thinking about saving up money by just getting a blu ray player and a large tv.

So would a blu ray player work the same a smart tv does or is there any differences?

Some Blu ray players have just as many or even more features as a Smart TV and will work just as good or better than a smart TV depending on what Blu ray player your talking about and what smart TV they are not all the same.....so it depends on the make and the model number; usually a Blu ray player that has lots of features and works well on the Internet will cost you a little more but not as much as a Smart TV...There are also Smart Blu ray players.. A smart Blu ray player usually connotes a Blu ray player that has a built in browser as opposed to just apps and icons....

I know that there is a way to connect my computer to stream to my sony s370 blu ray player. I would like to know if I would need a cable of some sort to connect them and if so what kind?
I've been looking this up for days and would love if someone could help me figure this out.

What you have to do is get a router then you connect the Blu ray and the computer to the router using cat5 or cat 6 cable or you could also go wireless if you have the proper adapters and equipment for that and then you create a network, for the computer and the blu ray, most routers will do this fairly easily using an included disk that you insert into the computer, the network is also connected to the Internet, the blu ray does not have a browser so you cannot go any where on the internet nor can you transfer anything you want from your computer, the blu ray is limited to certain sites on the Internet it can visit and certain things it can do. The blu ray will not connect directly to your computer but I think there may be a way to send still photos from the computer to the blu ray that will appear on the TV screen.

Would you recommend the PS3 as a good Blu-Ray player, or should I get a standalone player?

Since Blu-Ray is a relatively new technology, get a player that is able to get firmware updates in case there are changes to the media. The PS3 is an excellent choice there.

A perfect example of this: Remember older DVD players cannot play CDs or burned disks, aren't compatible with MP3s, JPGs, or even AVIs. Some even had a hard time recognizing dual-layer discs. If they were able to upgrade the firmware in the player, they might still be useful today.

PS3 is so much more than just a gaming console, also. You can stream music, movies, and pictures from your PC, stream TV and movies from the internet, have access to all the NetFlix instant movies to your main entertainment system. It is also an upscaling DVD player, web browser, WiFi connectivity built in...

PS3 is a great choice if it is in your budget.

For the most part, yes. There are some smart TVs that have full web browsers or certain interfaces that make them fun and user friendly, but generally speaking, most people are fine with using a bluray player rather than buying a smart TV. If you just want the basic apps, you'll be fine.
