xbox 360 or blu ray player?

I cant decide which to get. Heres what id like.
Netflix
Tv
Hulu
Exercise videos
Maybe some games if i were to get an xbox but nothing like halo etc.
Internet
Mostly just more things to do on my tv than just laptop or tablet
I do have wifi
I have access to a xbox 360 4gb but is that worth it? Because i know the 250gb is a lot better.
I know i can get netflix on xbox but then again on blu ray i can do internet and dvds.
Im kind of leaning toward the blu ray for the uses but i can basically get the xbox 4gb for free from my work.
What do you think?

My family is thinking about getting Hulu and Netflix subscriptions for TV and movies therefore we can get rid of cable. We do have an Xbox to stream from Netflix and Hulu. Then we will get the verizon share everything plan, and have my mom's phone be a wifi hotspot, so we don't need to pay optimum for internet or a land line. We are a family of 3 btw. Hope it helps!! You might want to talk to a BestBuy employee or something, so that you can set everything up the right way. If that made any sense to you, i suggest you try it! :p it's a little complicated, but i'm sure it will save you money. :)

Will XBOX 360 ever get a blu-ray player?

I'm looking to finally go hi-def, and with HD-DVD sinking, I'm planning on going down to Blu-ray route. I already have an Xbox 360 - and there's constant rumours about whether it will or will not get a Blu-Ray player.

Anyone know anything?
In case it helps - I'm referring to the external player (like the HD-DVD one that's available for the 360) not an internal drive - which (I'd imagine) would mean there wouldn't be need for a whole new system or game redesign etc as already mentioned in some answers?

Which blu-ray players allow you to browse netflix categories?

I want a blu-ray player that allows you to see more than just your "instant queue". On my xbox 360, ps3 and Wii I can browse categories, but do any of the standard blu-ray players do it? It's for someone else, and they don't want to buy a gaming system to do it.

Some of the Insignia Blu-ray Live players support this feature as well as the LG BD550, BD570, and BD590 players. Insignia is a Best Buy in-store brand.

These players allow you to browse categories for instant watch titles without having the titles in your queue. The top 100 titles in 20 or so genres are shown.

Should I get an Blu Ray Player or a DVD UpConverter?

I have an Xbox 360 running HDMI on a 32" 720p tv. Will a DVD Up-converter do a better job? Or should i just wait to get a Blu Ray Player? Or, on my tv, is it even worth it to get a blu ray payer?

On a 32" 720p HDTV the improvement of Blu-ray over DVD will be small. And if you are watching DVDs on a Blu-ray player it may or may not be better than a DVD on an upscaling DVD player ... it depends on the quality of the video processor chip. Many upscaling DVD players don't do a great job, but more expensive ones (say > $60) aren't bad. On the other hand cheaper Blu-ray players (say < $150) generally don't do a great job upscaling DVDs either.

So really your choice is a "better" upscaling DVD player or a "better" Blu-ray player. Since you won't get much benefit from Blu-ray disks on your current HDTV unless you plan to upgrade it in the next year or so I'd opt for a "better" upscaling DVD player. The best choice is a used OPPO player. They are now discontinued, but the DV981 (See link) was generally considered one of the best upscaling DVD players ever made, so try to find one of those used.

FYI, I watch DVDs on a Blu-ray player that does better than average DVD upscaling and display via a 1080p projector on a 110" screen. While Blu-ray disks are a bit better, in most cases DVD looks pretty darn good. So, even though I can play Blu-rays I more often than not still buy DVDs because they are usually much cheaper ... and few movies really warrant Blu-ray.

I am currently using AT&T uverse, the problem is there is only one Ethernet port on the dvr boxes. My question is simply how do I set up a switch to the uverse box so I connect my blu ray player and xbox 360 to the Internet?

You just need a multi-port switch. Connect you internet feed (from your router or router/modem) to one port of the switch, and the Blu-Ray and Xbox to the other ports. You still have to connect the Xbox and Blu-Ray to your TV. They won't just flow thru the UVerse connection.

How to connect headphones to HDTV without a headphone jack?

My main question would be would an RCA adapter work even while using a blu-ray player or xbox 360 connected through an HDMI cable? Also there is a analog jack in the back tht i can plug my headphones into but it is way to loud and the volume can not be lowered. So what are my options? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I need a new receiver that can support a HD TV, Blu-Ray player, and an Xbox 360. I currently have 2x Sharp cp-9860(bk) and 2x EPI 100v speakers. Both use stereo wire to connect to the receiver. The TV has an audio out as well. What receiver would be the best value for the money?

You will want a HDMI receiver that handles audio. In addition, with the Blu-ray player you probably want a receiver that can handle/decode high definition sound like TrueHD and DTS-HD MA found on Blu-ray movies. Here's some models under $300 that will work great for you with this in mind.
