In general, is Sony or Panasonic a better quality Blu-Ray player?

And is a Wi-Fi adapter standard on most Sony and/or Panasonic BDPs now, or do most need a separate one?

Panasonic is the most reliable player in the market today. I own one of the first generation blu ray disc player from Panasonic and it is about 3 years old and have had no problems with it playing any blu ray disc movies I have purchased since then (300). Look at the BD-85 model and see if it is capable of the Wi-Fi. I only use mine for watching blu ray disc movies. Quality of Sony product are not good from my experience, I purchased a Sony DVD player 7000 and 7700 when they first came out and they did not last more than 2 years, my first HD TV a 34" CRT from Sony that cost me $6.400 with a retail price of $8,000 in 2000 only lasted 2 years. I would not buy any Sony product. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice Sony tv having problems with the power circuit board going out. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on just about every product for your home entertainment. Hope this will help you out.

Where can I find a cheap Blu-Ray player?

Q. I've looked around Walmart, Target, and Best Buy. The cheapest I've found is for $89 at Walmart and Target. The same Phillips model. I like Phillips. My 32" HDTV is a Phillips brand. But can I find a cheaper Blu-Ray player elsewhere?

I would not recommend buying the cheapest player in the market at all. What I would recommend is a Panasonic, they are the most reliable. I own a first generation player model BD-10 which is over 4 years old and played over 300 blu ray disc movies without any problems. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of the problems on blu ray disc player are those bargain price players. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.

Be forewarned that there continues to be reports* of problems with some of the much ballyhooed premium features often used to market the latest crop of high-definition disc players, including Blu-ray units. Regardless of what anyone recommends you need to carefully and thoroughly evaluate prospective high-definition disc players prior to purchase, particularly with all applicable A/V equipment that you are (or plan on) using, in an effort to minimize the risk of problems. (Keep in mind that some problems as well as missing features may be resolved through firmware upgrades.)

Because it is still relatively early in the game I recommend not investing too much money into a new high performance, high-definition disc player. For the time being, when shopping for a new high-definition disc player, I recommend models with an average street (or selling) price of no more than approximately $1000.

The leading contenders in the Blu-ray disc player camp are all new models - the Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD, Sony BDP-S2000ES and the Samsung BD-P2400. (The Samsung BD-P2400 Blu-ray Player may be one of the better values when it comes to full-featured, high-performance Blu-ray disc players.)

Pandora works the same on the blu-ray player like on the computer.
First you should make an account. I recommend getting started on your computer and making stations on your computer- it should guide you through it.
Then sign in on your tv. If you're already signed in, you should sign out and sign back in to refresh it.
Next you can make more stations. To make a station you can either type in an artist you like or a song you like. It should show you some songs and you have to choose which one you meant. Then basically Pandora takes that song and finds songs that are similar to it. You can choose if you like a song and if you do it will play it more often. If you don't like the song it won't play it on that specific station. You can skip 6 songs per hour and 12 songs per day.
And that's basically it.

I am downloading a torrent that is in blu ray quality. I want to burn this to a disk. Would it be possible to burn it to a DVD? Will the quality be as good? I dont have a blu ray player so I want to watch a high quality movie

If you want to play the burned dvd disk on regular DVD player, you have to convert and burn the blu Ray movies to standard video DVD, because most dvd players only recognizes the standard video DVD well, but standard standard video DVD only supports 720x480(ntsc) or 720x576(pal) video resolution highest, so you can't keep the video resolution higher than this when convert blu Ray movies to standard video DVD, the program will lower the blu Ray movie video resolution to fit the standard video DVD, and if your DVD player support Divx or Xvid video, you can convert your blu Ray movies to HD Divx AVI movies or HD Xvid AVI movies, then play on your Divx or Xvid DVD player. How will 3d stereoscopic movies be released to the public?

I'm looking to make a home theater system with a projector, but I'm excited about the prospect of the 3d stereoscopic movies in my home. Will the 3d systems be based on the player or the screen? Should I anticipate buying a 3d capable blu-ray player or a 3d capable projector?

A number of companies have said that they will have 3-D TVs out by Christmas, but refuse to admit (publicly) how those sets will work. Will we need glasses (Yes, for now), will we need new players (they say no, but see above)?

Laptop graphics are in almost all models soldered into the motherboard.
Even in the very few high end custom made laptops that do have a socket type mount for graphics card you cannot add a secondary card for space and power supply reasons.

Custom order an expensive gaming laptop and you will get better graphic cards (like GTX680M) and even two GTX680M SLI mounted cards.

im trying to convince my parents to get a ps3. the only use they will have for it is the blu ray player. how much better is blu ray quality from regular dvds? is there a big enough difference for them to notice? is upconverting a dvd the same quality as the blu ray disc itself?

The bottom line is that the technical difference is huge, but the difference that your parents would notice depends on a lot of things, including the size of their TV, the native resolution of their TV, and how far they sit from the TV. If they have a 1080p projector and a 100" screen and they're sitting 10 feet away, the difference is very impressive. If they're sitting 10 feet away from a 50" 1080p flat-panel TV, the difference is what I would call significant, but not dramatic. If the TV is even smaller, or if they're sitting even further away, or if the TV isn't 1080p, the difference may be barely noticeable.

An upconverted DVD - done well can be nearly as good as Blu-Ray, but again, it depends on the size and quality of the screen. (Upconversion can be done poorly or really well. The best upconverting DVD players are made by Oppo - http://oppodigital.com )

Of course, you may want to ignore this and go with one of the more glowing answers in order to get that PS2! ;)
