What is a really nice cheap Blu-Ray Player?

Tyler

Please dont tell me PS3 i dont want one

Answer
No such thing. Blu-ray players are all still too expensive for most folks. About the best you can do is ~$300 and that is usually a profile 1.0 or 1.1 player (Not 2.0).

Blu-ray players will never be as cheap as DVD players, but I'd advise waiting until at least the Xmas season '08, when prices are expected to come down to ~$200.

On the other hand, unless you have a medium>large HDTV and a good sound system you are pretty much wasting your money on Blu-ray. Upconverted DVDs will look almost as good ... and cost a lot less.

Blu-ray is a premium priced alternative to DVD for those willing to pay the higher prices.

Can a 3D Blu ray be used as a regular 2D Blu Ray player when paired with an HDTV?

Austin

Ok, so I currently have a regular HDTV, but I found a 3D blu ray player for cheap and want to pick it up for when I get a 3D TV in the future. My main question is if I could connect it to my HDTV and use it as a standard 2D blu ray player in the meantime? I know I need the 3D TV to watch 3D movies, but I would like to watch 2D blu rays on it.

Answer
Yes.

I'm looking into getting a new blu-ray player. My plans are to walk into best buy and look for one. I'm not really sure what my price range should be and I hear most blu-ray players are cheap now. I really just want to be able to stream netflix from it and watch movies in good quality. It'd help me if you could tell me what too look for when buying one and what brand would be the best buy.

Answer
Make sure it has netflix, amazon, etc, connectivity. Only some have that capability.
And you probably want one with 3D capability.
Pick a name brand like Sony or similar.

One feature (important to me anyway) is how long it takes to start playing a Blu-ray movie. The sony model I have takes about 5 minutes, really bad.

Go online and look for reviews.

Is there any difference between a cheaper blu-ray player and a ps3 in visual quality?

Jason S

My dad bought a ps3 a while back and he said i can take it as long as I replace it with another blu-ray player. Is there any difference in visual quality between a ps3 and a cheap blu-ray player? (one that goes for about 150$) PLEASE HELP

Answer
The PS3 is still rated very highly in blu-ray player reviews, usually because of all it's other features and the ability to update features and firmware. If your dad just wants a player then i'm sure a $150 will be fine, there may be a reduction in quality but it wont be huge.

Suggest a model to your dad and see what he thinks.

The person below who says that the PS3 doesn't have 7.1 or TrueHD is wrong. I know because I use both. You just need an AV receiver that supports it, and that applies to ALL blu-ray players.

Can I plug a Blu-Ray player to a non-HD (read regular) TV?

blu ray player cheap
on Sony BDP-S760 Blu-Ray DVD Player.
blu ray player cheap image

There's an opportunity for me to buy a Blu-Ray player very cheap, but I'm not planning on buying a High-Def TV until later (next year).
Will it still work on my regular TV using component cables?
Will the movies "play" correctly?
Will I be able to access all the content on the discs?

Please help! Thanks!

Answer
of course you can ! And you already know the resolution will downgrade to your existing TV resolution / just think for a moment how badly an appliance manufacturer would screw themselves if they made their equipment incompatible with a huge installed base of TV owners who may not have some HD standard since there so many different ones or just a standard TV.

Companies like Sony and Panasonic wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot by making their players incompatible with people like you who don't yet have / but plan on buying an HD TV.

Also, consider the Sony PlayStation 3, is a BluRay player since many of their games come on the larger BluRay capacity disc and those also play fine on convetional and numerously different formatted HD / EDTV's.

Look at it a different way, lets say this BluRay player doesn't work with your TV for whatever reasons, research how much you could resell it for used on Amazon's Marketplace and compare what you're planning on paying for it to what you could resell it for.

If you can sell it for more than you paid for it then the decision for you to go ahead and purchase in anticipation for using it now, or waiting until you upgrade, or just reselling it for a profit.

Use those three factors as your criteria and make it a business decision.

I'm looking for a Blu-ray player that plays regular DVDs, Blu-ray DVDs, and has Netflix on it. I'm also looking for a good bargain as well. Nothing too cheap, but something of good quality and affordable as well.
