i noticed that some blu-ray players have a network adapter on them for internet connectivity, what is that for exactly, would it be because some movies have to be activated on that specific blu-ray disc player like you have to do with some computer software....

That feature is for some movies with online features. Some movie studios have more "extras" that couldn't fit on the disc so they made them accessable via the ethernet port and a computer.
It also can be used to upgrade the firmware on the model you buy. For example the PS3 recently added the audio decoding feature of TruHD and you needed to update the firmware to get this installed on your player. You could either hook the PS3 up to the ethernet port or download to a flash drive and hook the flashdrive up to the PS3 to get the firmware update.
If you don't care about movie "extras" and have a flash drive then this feature will be a non issue.
Also any movie you buy on Bluray wil automatically play on Bluray players and you don't need to activate the movie.

I had one a while back but my hard drive failed so i lost EVERY thing off there and amongst those things was my software for playing Blu-Ray dvds on my computer... I think the program was called Direct X or something close to that. I want a free download from a website i KNOW wont give me a virus...Any suggestions?
