Sony Blu-Ray Player..............?

saty

I Brought Sony Blu-Ray player from US. I want to use it in India, so which adapter should i go for?

Answer
India power is 230Volts 50 Hz 3 pin round triangle
US Power is 120Volts 60Hz Typically on a Bluray would be 2 pin vertical flat blades without/with round ground pin

The question is whether you need an adaptor or a converter. You need to look up the Sony power requirements. Sometimes there is a little switch. If only 120V 60Hz, you need a power converter.

An adaptor looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Power-Bright-PB11-Adapter-Grounded/dp/B002L2DRQE
but does not convert the power, and you would damage the electronics if not designed to accept 230V.

Online shopping for electronics in India is difficult. Just stepping down the voltage from 230 to 120, still leaves the cycles phase difference.

Then of course you may be faced with region coding of Bluray discs

I think you need one of these, and the only question is about the 60Hz vs 50Hz

can you watch blu ray discs on 720p telivision?

Steve

can you watch blu ray discs on 720p telivision?

do regular dvds look better on 720p even though they arent hi def?

Answer
Most definitely you can watch Blu-ray in 720p! Blu-ray has a maximum resolution of 1080p, even 720p will be much clearer than a standard DVD.

Depending on the upscaler and DVD/Blu-ray player you have, regular DVDs will probably not look "better" on a high definition TV. Regular DVDs have a maximum resolution of 480 (PAL) or 576 (NTSC) , so what the player would do is scale and fill in data to populate all 720 vertical pixels.

Some players that has the Silicon Optix REON chip has great upscaling that makes standard DVDs look really good. But remember it is still trying to fill in data that is not there before.

Also keep in mind too, even if you don't have a upscaling player your TV will do the job of scaling the information to fit your TV. Remember that some where along the line, the regular DVD's 480p will have to be stretch to fit the DVD. Higher end TVs will have great upscalers where you don't even need a "upscaling" dvd player. Most Blu-ray players again are pretty good upscalers for normal DVDs as well.

Can you play music from computer through a blu ray player?

Rick Ross

i have an lg 3d blu ray player. and the other day i realized that when i look under music, it recognizes my laptop and i can go through the player to find files on my laptop and play music files. The thing i was wondering is if there's a way that i can play music on my laptop so that it streams directly through the blu ray.

Answer
Some Blu-ray players are DLNA Certified. Meaning you can stream files such as videos, photos and music from your computer to your blu-ray player. And playback on your TV. You should look in your owners manual or go to the LG web site and get step by step instructions on how to step this up.

Got films on USB stick but no sound comes on when I plug it into my BLU RAY player?

I have some films on a USB stick think they are (AVI films or something) then I plug the stick into my blu ray player and then the film plays but no sound is there? When I watch the film on my computer there is sound whats the problem? anyone know what to do ?

Answer
soooo, is the blu ray player connected to the tv with the red and white for sound, and the yellow for display? coz that's how it should be.
UNLESS your BLU ray player is connected to an amp that plays 5.1 surround, or 2.1 or 7.1 whatever...
but its still connected the same!!!! RED and WHITE for sound, and Yellow for display....

UNLESS!! you have a TV that has HDMI out, which then should play the sound through the tv....

No sound through Panasonic surround sound when played on my Panasonic blu ray?

Peter

I have my Panasonic Blu-ray player set up with my Panasonic surround sound system via optical leads. Unfortunately the surround sound works when the credits of the film are on but cuts of when the actual film starts. I am not very good at all the technical side of this so I wondered if somebody could come up with an idiot proof way of going into my settings to try and resolve this. Maybe it is not possible?? I don't know. Thanks in advance! Pete

Answer
check audio settings both on the player, the software. might be set up for 7.1 or master audio in the disc. optical connection carries only 5.1,

Help finding the right blu-ray player?

Christophe

I recently moved in with my sister so I could go back to school, and I'm bringing her into the 21st Century. We're getting a HDTV, and to compliment it, a blu-ray player. However, I have specific needs out of the player - but I can only find one that meets some, but not all, of them.

What I need is a Blu-Ray player that, well, plays Blu-Ray, does Netflix streaming *well*, wireless N (whether it be from a dongle, which I have, or native), and can either stream media (specifically MKV) wirelessly from my desktop and/or can play it via external drive. All for <$200.

I know, it's asking a lot, but does anyone have any direction for me? Thanks!

Answer
Get a PS3 game console. It's a blu-ray player and you can rent movies as well as play games.

Samsung BD-F5900 Blu-ray Player or Sony BDP-S3100 Blu-ray Player?

Lucifuge

Which one should I get?

Answer
a Lot depends on how your going to use it traditionally Sony connects a little easier to icon listed sites the samsung may be a little more difficult to get to places like amazon instant video etc because you have to navigate but the sites are limitless due to the built in browser......the Samsung is traditionally more Flexible when it comes to the type of video formats it can play off a USB pin drive or armature download...If your main concern is 3D blu ray disks then you should get the Blu ray player that matches the name brand of your TV hench a Sony TV will match better with a Sony 3D blu ray player and a Samsung 3D TV will match better with a Samsung 3D Blu ray player ..The Sony Blu ray player should be able to navigate Blu Ray disks a little better with less skip and faster rendition... the Samsung will be a little slower in loading than the Sony when it comes to Blu ray disks ...so mostly it depends on what features you want and how your going to use it....

Is there a digital player where I can watch all of my digital movies?

Bobby M

Is there a digital player where I can watch all of my digital movies. What I mean is there a digital player that I can buy where I can watch all of my digital movies on one box. For instance, I have movies that I bought from Itunes and also movies that I bought from Amazon Instant video. Is there anything that I can get to watch both of them on one machine. If not I think I will start getting blu rays with digital copies instead of getting hd digital movies. At least I can play all of my movies on one box

Answer
Install VLC Media Player on your computer and u can watch all formats with it.

It's free from videolan.org

Which of these game systems have the best blu ray player. PS3, PS4 , or Xbox One?

Michael

1. Which of these games systems have the best blu ray and dvd video quality.. The playstation 3, playstation 4, or Xbox one

2. Does the quality in video and sound remain the same with all three or is there a loss in quality (resolution, sound, aspect ratio etc...) in any of the systems

3. Why and what are the differences

4. What is your recommendation?

Thanks

Answer
1. Sony was one of the 9 companies that started up the Blu Ray format (while Microsoft was not) and they have the best BR players in their systems. The PS3 can also play 3D Blu Rays while the PS4 cannot, so that is personal pref.

2. There really is not much difference in quality, if any at all, between the three systems.

3. See above

4. PS3 if you care about 3D Blu Ray, PS4 if not.

Is Xbox 360 getting Blu Ray?

burrito

I'm hearing rumours all around the internet about it. But I highly doubt Sony will give it's own technology to its competition...
And if it does happen, what will the 14 million of us with non blu ray 360's do?

Answer
buy a blu-ray player? you can get them cheap lately...thats what i did.

Besides why would i want to put wear and tear on my gaming console so i can watch movies? If you play movies on your console it still causes wear and tear on the console and personally i think that wear and tear should be left for gaming.

Yeah 3-5 movies no big deal but if you watch 100 movies on your console that is a lot of hours of life time wasted.

Do what i did and buy a blu-ray player seperately...

with a 7.1 dolby digital processor process in 7.1 when playing blu-ray disc on a blu-ray player?

with a 7.1 dolby digital processor process in 7.1 when playing blu-ray disc on a blu-ray player
when playing a blue-ray disc on a blue-ray player will it broadcast in 7.1 with a 7.1 dolby digital receiver.

Answer
Only HD sound formats give you true 7.1 channel via HDMI or 7.1 analog channel connected from Blu-ray player to receiver with HD decoder on board or old receiver with 7.1 analog channel input. If you have an old receiver with 7.1 analog channel input, you need a Blu-ray player has 7.1 analog channel output to get HD sound.

blu ray question?

wood

i have a blu ray disk player and a 7.1 HT-R540 onkyo surround system , i was just wondering how can i get DTS MA or Dolby TRUE or uncompressed PCM to play through my 7.1 receiver , please please help

Answer
you need to find a receiver that can output LPCM and a blu-ray player that can decode DTS-MA. this is probably the best option because there is not a lot of receiver that can decode DTS-MA but there are many blu-ray players and since many receiver can output LPCM you are better this way. i heard and read somewhere that the PS3 can decode DTS-MA but not sure.

Blue ray - Quicktime Converting?

W

I have created a movie on my macbook using imovie.I have converted it to a quicktime file and I want to play it on my blue ray using a USB stick. However, when I plugged in my USB stick its says the media is not compatible. How can I make my Imovie compatible with my blueray player? Please help- it would be greatly appreciated.
I would like to play on my USB drive - cause this movie will be updated from time to time and I do not want to rip a DVD each time that I make a change to the video. It would be easier if I could just play it from my USB.

Thank you very much for all the help!

Answer
If you used iMovie to export an .m4v file with H.264 video encoding and AAC audio compression (the default export format of iMovie), try if changing the filename extension to .mp4 helps. They are both basically the same, but your Blu Ray player might be preferring .mp4.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, check your Blu Ray player's manual. It should list which file formats and video/audio encoding standards are supported for playback from a USB storage device.

If you add this information to your question here, we could look for a specific solution (QuickTime export settings in iMovie or conversion).

xbox 360 or blu ray player?

Green

I cant decide which to get. Heres what id like.
Netflix
Tv
Hulu
Exercise videos
Maybe some games if i were to get an xbox but nothing like halo etc.
Internet
Mostly just more things to do on my tv than just laptop or tablet
I do have wifi
I have access to a xbox 360 4gb but is that worth it? Because i know the 250gb is a lot better.
I know i can get netflix on xbox but then again on blu ray i can do internet and dvds.
Im kind of leaning toward the blu ray for the uses but i can basically get the xbox 4gb for free from my work.
What do you think?

Answer
My family is thinking about getting Hulu and Netflix subscriptions for TV and movies therefore we can get rid of cable. We do have an Xbox to stream from Netflix and Hulu. Then we will get the verizon share everything plan, and have my mom's phone be a wifi hotspot, so we don't need to pay optimum for internet or a land line. We are a family of 3 btw. Hope it helps!! You might want to talk to a BestBuy employee or something, so that you can set everything up the right way. If that made any sense to you, i suggest you try it! :p it's a little complicated, but i'm sure it will save you money. :)

blu ray player with wifi?

dontbeapha

I am thinking of a getting an LG or Samsung blu-ray player with built-in wifi. They all come in with services already loaded like Netflix. Can you get on other online streaming video sites, not specifically listed? Like watching archived TV shows and stuff.

Answer
It depends on what kind of wifi connection is in the blu ray, and if that model supports other applications than Netflix. You need a strong wifi signal to get streaming videos and if they have a built in wifi that is 802.11N (2.4 GHz) or higher, you shouldn't have any problems.

Typically they will only come preloaded with the applications. One positive note to wifi is that you will get the latest firmware updates that will be required to play newer blu ray movies.

How to browse netflix movie on my sony blu ray player?

David K

I have a sony BDP-S370/BX37, and I have netflix. I know how to use netflix on my blu ray system, but I can't browse categories or search movies on that system. Is it possible to have it like the PS3 where you can browse categories without going to your computer and add instant queue every single time? My brother in law has a ps3, and a blu ray system and his netflix is different then mines. He can browse categories, genres and search movies just like on the computer. Any help or explanation is appreciated.

Answer
Your bluray player doesn't have its own WiFi (internet) adapter so no you cant download or browse any
netflix videos because of that. His PS3 has its own wifi adapter so it can browse netflix wirelessly.
The BDP 560 has an internal wifi adapter which is the same brand as yours. If you can try and use this one

I lost my remote for a Toshiba BDX2000KU Blu-Ray player. I bought a Universal Remote and I can't program it using any of the codes or manual setup. What do I do?.

Answer
Call toshiba for the newer codes or take the universal back and purchase a Harmony. Even better, see if you can purchase an orginal Toshiba remote. It will be much cheaper than Harmony. All you have to do now, is search the web for the remote.

any help/links/opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Answer
Pioneer BDP-430

Pioneer BDP-140

Oppo BDP-93 Universal Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (it price at $499.99, it is hard to find it on sale most of the time. Even at good online stores that sell home theater stuff)

Pioneer Elite BDP-52FD

Sony is ok, but I think they are overrated, and they are the hardest one to crack the code so that the player can be a region free one and play any region's disc. Well on ther DVD side of the Blu-Ray player. I like Pioneer followed by Oppo, IF I had go for those that are not the premium or high end ones it would be Panasonic.

How do you connect Amazon Prime Movies to the PS3?

we p

I have an Amazon Prime account and I was wondering what are the steps to play the free movies on my PS3? Please let me know, thanks (:

Answer
Amazon Instant Video is not available on the PS3.

In order to watch Amazon Instant Video, you will need a TV that has the built in app (currently Panasonic, Samsung, and Vizio TVs are the only TVs with built in Amazon), a set-top box or DVR that has the built in app (such as a Roku player, Tivo, or Sony Internet Video Link), or a Blu-ray player that has the built in app (currently only Sony and Panasonic stand alone Blu-ray players).

The PS3 does not currently have an Amazon app, so the PS3 can not use Amazon. In the future, if the Amazon app is added to the PS3, you will then be able to use the PS3, the same way it uses Hulu, Vudu, and Netflix (there will be an app for it under the Video section).

Since Amazon has just started this, I would expect to see an Amazon app in the future, but probably not for at least a couple more months (it may not even happen until next year).

Advice on blu ray players?

Q. I'm not paying over £80

Answer
I used to have a Samsung Blu-ray player (BDP1580) which cost £80 but it packed up completly after 2 weeks and also they freeze up all of the time where I work.

Instead, you should spend just that little bit more and get the best one on the market, getting rave reviews by virtually all critics.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-BDPS370B-CEK-BDPS370-Blu-ray-Player/dp/B0038M1UTW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1288509618&sr=8-1

I have had this for just over 6 months now, no freezing, much better picture and sound quality than the samsung AND internet services such as Demand Five and BBC iPlayer!

Looking for a Blu ray player?

J

I want to get a blu ray player and I was wondering if I should get an actual blu ray player from around 250 to 300$ price range or if I should get a PS3? PS3 would mainly be for blu ray so gaming would just be a bonus. Is the blu ray on the ps3 as good as a standard blu ray player made by samsung or sony?

Answer
I have just spent the better part of today researching, reading and writing about blu-ray players. I saw a lot of praise for the Sony PlayStation 3. CNET Reviews said that the PS3 is the most recommendable Blu-ray player out there. They felt that most people would be well suited with the PS3 at least until the standalone units cost much less and perform as well. If you would actually use the machine for gaming, that is a huge bonus in my mind. It certainly sounds like it is as good, actually better, than many standard blu-ray players by Samsung or Sony.

You can see the results of my research on a page that I have created at http://www.squidoo.com/blu-rayplayer.

Perks pf Blu ray DVD player?

Kyle

They're more expensive than normal DVD's is it worth getting one?

Answer
480p is the standard for DVD, 1080p is the standard for Blu-ray. Between the two, there is a massive difference. Blu-ray will likely support 4k resolutions in the future, but most people won't notice a difference between 1080p and 4k unless they sit extremely close to their television or have a television larger than 77 inches. That being said, a Blu-ray being viewed on a 1080p Plasma television is more than enough to satisfy the most picky people.

Is this Blu-ray player okay?

I want to get a Samsung 3-D Blu-ray player but will this 3-D Blu-ray player play without a 3-D TV. Then we plan on getting the 4K Samsung TV. Also well the place standard definition DVDs?

Answer
Yes, the player can play DVD's as well. You can play 3D disks without a 3D TV, but you will only be able to view the movie in 2D, but if you are planning on upgrading your TV in the future, then I would say it's a good deal.

Toshiba External Hard Drive Question?

Q. I just got a 1TB Toshiba external hard drive, and I put all of my .avi movies along with all my music and photos on it. It works fine on my computer and other computers, but I tried to connect it, through a USB port, to my parents Sony Blu-Ray player and it said that it was 'not supported'. Is there any way to have it recognize the hard drive at all? I've read a lot of forums that said the .avi movie files cannot be seen, but is there any way to view the photos or music? If not, it's no big, I can hook up my computer to my tv at my house, but I was hoping to share movies I made and photos with my family before I went back there. Any help at all is appriciated.

Answer
Sony Blu-Ray player support USB port, so u can convert your .avi video to M2TS or or other Sony Blu-Ray player compatible formats for enjoying. What external hard drives will work with PS3 and blu ray players with USB input?

ronfromny

I bought a WD 1TB external. For movies, and shows. My buddy formatted it to FAT32, and I put the movies and music in the folders you are supposed to such as "PS3" "VIDEO" and "MUSIC" and I connected the drive to the ps3 and then the blu ray player, and nothin showed up. Is it because 1TB was too big? And if that's not the case, what could be a solution?

Answer
You probably need to reformat it with a better utility. Use Fat32Formatter:

http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/

It bypasses all Windows limitations, no install required, just unzip and run. It makes the drive fully compatible.

Then be sure you put the media in the proper folders (NOT PS3): Pictures, Video, Music just in the root of the drive.

You can also highlight the device, tap Triangle, and select Display All to browse the entire contents of the drive.

Also note, the drive must be USB 2.0 for the PS3 as USB 3.0 requires more power to run as it has a higher power rating and the PS3 can't recognize it even if it is 2.0 compatible.

Samsung working on a patch to allow its blu ray players to play Avatar?

gotta_kill

Just bought a Samsung BD C5500 less than a month ago. I put the blu ray version of Avatar in and kept getting this red screen of death stating that my player needed an upgrade. So i did this, and it still says that i need an upgrade. From what i read on this forum, Sony is having the same types of issues and is allegedly working on a sort of patch to download to possibly correct this issue. Anyone know if Samsung is working on any similar patch? The DVD works fine, and looks pretty damn awesome, but i'd really like to watch it on blu ray, since i have a blu ray player. Pretty frustrating.

Answer
Return the blu-ray player and blu-ray disc and wait until this technology is better established.

Seriously, it's utterly ridiculous that you have to worry about upgrading your movie player everytime a new movie comes out. We don't have to do upgrade our microwave oven every time a new TV dinner comes out in the freezer section do we?

We didn't have these problems with VHS and didn't have nearly the same problems with DVD. If I bought a blu-ray player, I'd expect it to play blu-ray discs. If it can't...it must be defective.

I will be buying a Blu-Ray player...will it work on my TV?

Hey, I have a Sansui 19" TV. Here is all of the info on it, if that helps: http://www.sansuiproducts.com/televisions/hdlcd1912-lcd-tv-s-series-19.html

So, I have no idea if the Blu-Ray player will work on it. I have a DVD player connected to it right now, but I've been wanting a Blu-Ray player for a long time.

Thanks for helping!

Answer
Yes, your blu ray disc player will work on this tv, it has an HDMI cable input. The blu ray disc player have HDMI output, just purchase an HDMI cable and connect the blu ray disc player on one end and the tv on the other end. Hope this will help you out.

Which ones best?

Answer
i would definitely say that the 2nd one is better.

my basis for that is the video card, the gtx 560 ti is significantly faster than the gtx 460, here are links to both cards benchmark performance:

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=WinFast+GTX+460

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+560+Ti

since the second one also has an i7-2600 and 8gb RAM, then it is a very good build and based on my experience, if a computer is good for gaming then it is basically good for everything else.

your gtx 560 ti could practically play all games at max settings except BF3 bec i was told that it takes a gtx 570 to max out BF3 at 1080p resolution.

BTW : just make sure that your power supply is at least 600w-650w, bec the requirement of the gtx 560 ti is 500w. goodluck :D
