I tried to watch the movie wanted, and it keeps skipping, freezing, or it will reset to the main menu. Is thes a disc problem or player problem?

Answer
You probably need to update your firmware. As new BDs come out, some older BD players may not play the new ones correctly without new firmware. Contact the player manufacturer.

How do I stream netflix to my tv from my pc?

mightymous

What device(s) do I need to send and receive video from my pc to my tv? Preferably wireless because I have a desk top and it isn't really that close to the tv. I have Windows 7 and I don't have Window Media Center as of now. If I need to load it I can though.

thnx.

Answer
Streaming it thru a roku player doesn't go thru you computer. The player has to be connected to the internet.
My experience trying to hook up a wireless blu ray player ended in failure. Too much interference with other wireless devices in my home.
I ran an ethernet cable from the modem and was watching movies in five minutes.

You use your computer to pick the movies on netflix and the watch instantly ones will be on the tv when you turn on the player.

You need at least 2 to 3 gps download speed to keep the movies from freezing

I have a sony blu ray player BPD-S270 and on the box it says I need a hdmi cable and a sony usb wireless lan adapter, I bought a different brand cable cause the guy at target said it didnt matter but I didnt ask about the usb. the box said sony's but i dont know if it matters or not???

Answer
It doesn't matter, that's just on the box so you'll spend more on a sony branded wireless adapter.

All wireless adapter work on a standard which is 802.11x, the current one is 802.11n as long as the blue ray drive and the wireless adapter are using the same standard, you'll be fine.

Is there a device similar to TV channel sharers?

Damian Byr

Okay, I'm sure you know about devices that share your TV channels between separate TVs. I want to know if there is a similar device for HTPCs. Basically, the HTPC will be connected to the TV in the living room, but there are two other TVs in separate rooms in the house. Is there a device that can share the media files? If it works using Wireless-N, then great, I have a 802.11n router

Answer
Your best bet is to use Windows Media Center or something else that can act like a DLNA server on the HTPC, then buy a Blu-Ray player for the other TVs that will work as a DLNA client.

blu ray player wiki image

Bryan B

I recently ordered a Blu ray copy of "Fantasia" from amazon used. In the mail I received a copy from Italy, and its in Italian. Would this Blu ray work on a player bought here in the US? (I don't believe there is any talking in the film, so I don't have to worry about language issues?)

Answer
"Global region codes identify specific DVDs and Blu-ray discs that are compatible with the players typically sold in that region. The majority of all current titles play in only one specific region unless otherwise noted. " For more information about Blu-ray code, you can refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc.
If you want to make this disc work, you can try to rip it to other formats or use Blu-ray Player software, if you have a blu-ray drive.

What's the difference between a blu-ray disc player and a regulary dvd player?

FutbolFan2

Are HD players and blu-ray disc players the same?

Answer
No. They are different branches of technology. They are both similar to DVD players, except they only play each respective type of High Definition DVD (Blu-Ray or HD-DVD). It's like Betamax and VHS. Similar technology but one is expected to rise above the other.

I think Blu-Ray is higher quality, but HD-DVD is more affordable. Not sure on this one though.

Read this wiki article for an in-depth analysis.

HRS

Hi everyone. I'm a college student with an old Samsung TV that has inputs for red, white yellow cables as well as green blue and red. I'd like a blu ray player that can hook up to the internet (so I don't have to get cable, I can just watch netflix). My pipedream hope is for one around $50, but I'm more realistically looking around $80. Does anyone know any models that will work with my tv and play from the internet? Will these players also play my DVDs? Thanks!

Answer
The yellow connector is analog composite video, which can not carry HD (it's not even the best for SD).

The red, blue and green set of connectors carry component video, which IS capable of carrying HD even though it is not digital. Component HDTV is generally limited to 1080i (there are exceptions).

The red and white pair is of course right and left (respectively) analog audio.

Is your "old Samsung TV" an "HD Ready" TV? If it is an "HD Ready" TV that accepts 1080i over its component inputs, that would be great.
It could just be a standard definition TV that has component video inputs for progessive-scan DVD playback, but not capable of HD through those inputs. It would still be better over component than composite (at least you'd have progressive scan); composite would be your last resort.

Older Blu-Ray players did have component video outputs for HD video, but they quickly switched over to HDMI for several reasons -- see below.

Used/refurbished Blu-Ray players with component video outputs can be found for sale on the web if you search for "Blu-Ray player with component video output." I found some in your price range when I searched.

At "brick and mortar" stores... you might find one at a pawn shop or a resale shop.

Edit: One more thought -- This might all be for naught if your main reason is to hook up your TV to the internet, because older Blu-Ray players are not as likely to have that feature.
Do you have a laptop computer? You could just watch Netflix etc. on that.

-----------------------------------
Sidebar: Why did HD device makers drop component video and adopt HDMI?
1. Convenience for consumer: One cable for video and audio.
2. Digital transmission of the signals: immunity to RFI/EMI and cable-length issues (up to a point).
3. (IMHO the most important reason of all for manufacturers and distributors): DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT (aka copy protection).
Component video is not encrypted, so a tech-savvy person could copy HD content carried by it. To prevent copying HD content, HDCP ("Highband Digital Content Protection") is used. HDCP encrypts HD content and checks every link in the chain from source to screen for full compliance (to prevent a "rogue" device in the chain from making copying possible). They even put an updated list of rogue devices on new Blu-Ray discs as they release them. At the content maker/distributor's choice, one of two things can happen if any link in the chain is not HDCP compliant: either it will display the content non-HD, or it will pop up a box on the screen saying that it can't play the content unless the non-compliant device is replaced.

How do I hook up my Sony Bravia surround sound system to my Blu Ray player?

I need ans

I have a Sony wireless Bravia speaker system with 5 disk DVD player.

I'm having trouble connecting my Blu Ray player to it.

It's a DAV-HDX 589WF Bravia.

I even tried connecting HDMI to my TV and optical cable to the DVD.

I either have picture or sound not both.

Any idea how to fix this?

Answer
"I even tried connecting HDMI to my TV and optical cable to the DVD."

That is exactly the way you want to connect it, because your receiver doesn't have any video inputs, only audio inputs.

The trick is that you have to set the TV's input to where the Blu-ray player is plugged in (HDMI 2?), so that you get the video. Then you set the receiver input source to play the optical audio from the Blu-ray player (it might be called auxiliary or external, optical 1).

You may also need to set the Blu-ray player to output audio from the optical port. Perhaps your player disables optical audio output when an HDMI cable is plugged into it, or else the port is disabled by default and needs to be enabled (set optical audio output to on).

Brylle C

My mom & I are about to sell our old TV along with its DVD player so that we could buy a new Sony Bravia TV. Since it would be boring if we would buy the TV alone, my mom thought of buying a new DVD/Blu-Ray player as well. I suggested to her that we should buy a PS3 instead of a DVD/Blu-Ray player simply because it has lots of features compared with a normal DVD player. I couldn't give her any good reasons why I chose the PS3 over the Player, that's why she didn't consider my suggestion. Which one should we buy? Why? Why not?
Of course I'd choose the PS3 because of the GAMES. Lol. But other than that, why the PS3 over the DVD/Blu-Ray player?

Answer
1- i would NOT buy a sony tv, they used to be good about 3-4 years ago but not now,, the picture and build quality isnt that good compared to the samsung and panasonic tv's

2- i would get a ps3 due to you can watch bbc iplayer, itv player, 4od, its got a full internet browser so you can search the internet on the tv instead of using a pc, the quality of the blu-ray player in the ps3 is good, its not a rubbish compared to other blu-ray players that are available

LG 37LH3000, blu-ray&internet?

ralph_g

Our old tv finally died the other day, 11-12 years old I think, so we got a new one & I'm a bit lost as it seems technology has moved forwards 'just a little' since our last TV!

Basically, I'm wondering if I can get a blu ray player than would have some sort of wifi connection, that would link up with my home router, and allow me to access things the internet via the tv? I'm really just interested in things like bbc iplayer, 4od.

Is this at all possible? If so, is there a some sort of jargon i should look out for? Or a specific model? It would be great if this could be done without breaking the bank of course too.

Thanks for your advise!

Answer
With Blu-Ray DVD players, some of them do have built in Wi-Fi. However the built in Wi-Fi has two purposes.

1) To update firmware and patches for your Blu-Ray DVD player
2) To stream content such as Netflix, Pandora music, Youtube only to your television.

However there is no Blu-Ray DVD player with Wi-Fi that will allow you to browse the internet since there is no internet browser included in the Blu-Ray DVD player.

If you like to purchase one, I would suggest going with Sony brand. One that includes built in Wi-Fi and with Blu-Live 2.0 (to access extra movie content and information about the movie) to your television. It should cost less than $200.00

I want to watch netflix on it but i cant because it wont let me connect to my wifi. Yes, i click on network amd then it doesnt even say wireless it only shows Wired and Network test. Help please!!!!! î

Answer
Some Internet Blu-Ray players don't support WiFi at all, and some only will if you add on a WiFi adapter (which plugs into the USB port on the back). Check the manual for your player or update your question to say which exact model it is.

P.S. If you end up needing a Wifi adapter, you need to get one made specifically for your player. It's not like a PC where you can buy any wireless adapter and just plug it in to USB.

Which is the best and most legit HD-Flat Screen Tvs?

Super 17

I want to know which is the most elite in high performance Flat screen and if I were to interested in using surround sound, which would be best?

On another note, which is the best Blu-ray player?

Answer
There is no such thing. Technology is updating almost daily and what costs a fortune will be affordable within a year or two.
VIZIO is offering good prices on great TVs. As for surround sound you will have to make up your mind whether a sound bar with sub woofer will give enough surround sound or you need an actual 5.1 or higher surround system. Your room layout will determine the type of system best suited for you. I would try a sound bar as first choice and if it doesn't work for you, you can return it and get the real surround with all kinds of speakers, etc.
Any name brand Blu-ray players with internet connections are always a good choice.
Sometimes getting every component from one company suggests using one remote for all components. That will simplify things too.

I've got an 5+ year old Linksys g modem, and from what I understand, I could get better performance with something newer. What is something good to go with, and what's the difference between an N and a G modem? Which one should I get? I have 3 laptops, an Xbox 360, 3 ipod touches, an ipad, a blu-ray player and an ethernet adapter (on my TV) all running through the wireless. So it gets a workout. Thanks,

Answer
Who ever told you that is as full of chit as a christmas goose. You most likely have all wireless G hardware in everything you have now. The ONLY benefit to wireless N is file transfer speed between your own network devices and since they are all probably G, a new router will default to G speeds anyway. If what you got works, leave it alone. The newer routers don't have the range the older ones do. Lastly, a wireless N router WILL NOT make your internet service any faster if that's what you think. Your internet speeds are set and determined by your provider, NOT your equipment

Can someone help me to connect my laptop to my WiFi?

Kimberly

I have a 2wire router. My iPhone, iPad, Blu-Ray player, and 2 other laptops all connect to the router... When I try to connect my laptop I have full signal, except it says that I only have local access only. Can someone help me?

Answer
I think I may have answered this in your previous (or next) post. But I think you may not have entered your username and password into the router. This is not the username and password printed on your router, but rather the username/password that your Internet Provider gave you.

If you cannot remember it, it is usually the same as the email address that your provider originally gave you. You may need a wired connection to connect to the router for the first time.

Answer
hi sanjay s....you can use a "speaker switch box"....i dont know how what cable wiring you have for your speakers...ok if they are bare wired you can use this switch box...if you have rca type plugs on the end of the speaker wire...so basically sanjay you connect your speaker cables to the rear of a "speaker switch box" and then you can use one rca cable to go from your blu ray player to the "output" speaker terminal of the "switch box" and to do that all you do is simply cut the rca connectors off (ONLY at one end) then carefully cut back the outer rubber of the left and the right cables and your done...hope that helps you.

Does the HDTV look better with Blu Ray if I use a blu ray player of the same manufacturer?

Carlos H

I bought an LG 47LD520 HDTV and I was deciding in buying the Blu ray player either the LG BD550 or the panasonic BD 80P? I want to hear your opinion.

Answer
It shouldn't make any difference -- connected with an HDMI cable, it's all digital so brand shouldn't enter in to the equation. As long as you have name-brand equipment, the brand itself shouldn't matter.

That said ... check for reviews of the machine you plan to get and make sure you get one that is said to do everything you expect.

I am setting up a small theater. I need a blue ray player that has pre-amp outputs that I can connect to external amplifiers. Preferably one for each channel.

Answer
Wow - so many wrong answers.

I have a second-gen Panasonic with 6 RCA outputs for the sound. This allowed me to get the un-compressed HD audio feed without having to re-purchase a AV Receiver with the updated firmware to handle this.

The 6-channel analog outputs on a BluRay player is not too common these days except for the higher-end models. You are not going to find these on the $125 models. Be prepared to spend $250+ for this feature. The quality of the DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) on these models have to be superior to process the sound so this drives the prices up.

The Oppo-BDP83 will work but it's a few hundred dollars. You might look at the Pioneer Elite PDB players. Pioneer makes some higher-end models and these often have pre-outs for all the channels.

After some searching I found the Pioneer BDP-51FD on Amazon that has the pre-outs you want. The new prices are steep but some people are selling used.

i have a xbox 360 and the highest resoultion it can go is 1080i. and i also get local channels in 1080i HD. would i still be able to player blu ray discs on it?

Answer
Of course you can....you don't think ANY blu-ray developer would ONLY make it work on 1080P do you?

Of course not...they'd lose over 90 % of the general population if they did that....

Relax, you'll like it in 1080i....

Just don't act like THE SCRUTINIZERS® and eyeball it from 6 inches away....Most of those guys have some sort of Anal--Mommy Complex anyways.

I think you need to look for the type files that Iron Man 2 because it might be Blu Ray thing. You need to find a compatible software with it. If you will copy the DVD files to your computer, it might embedded securight that might not crack. Good luck bud. God bless

Where can I find Professional music Software?

Andy3590

I am forming a small band and we would like to have a software that helps us whenever we play. We would need it to show play one or more instruments, show the lyrics, create playlists, and mix songs. It would be great if it would also let us record our own songs. We don´t mind paying for it, but we need it to work on Windows.
Thank you very much!

They can get me access now if I give them the MAC address to the device I have now, but they charge a monthly fee for this service. Are there any blu ray players that have a simple web browser?

There are some "Smart" Blu rau players that have web browsers like the Samsung BD ES900 but my understanding is they are hard to use as they do not have a mouse nor a key board so navigating the net can be difficult....

I'm looking to make a home theater system with a projector, but I'm excited about the prospect of the 3d stereoscopic movies in my home. Will the 3d systems be based on the player or the screen? Should I anticipate buying a 3d capable blu-ray player or a 3d capable projector?

Answer
A number of companies have said that they will have 3-D TVs out by Christmas, but refuse to admit (publicly) how those sets will work. Will we need glasses (Yes, for now), will we need new players (they say no, but see above)?

Answer
You asked a similar question before.

YOU CANNOT UPGRADE GRAPHICS IN A LAPTOP!!!!!!!

Is that too hard for you to understand???

Laptop graphics are in almost all models soldered into the motherboard.
Even in the very few high end custom made laptops that do have a socket type mount for graphics card you cannot add a secondary card for space and power supply reasons.

Custom order an expensive gaming laptop and you will get better graphic cards (like GTX680M) and even two GTX680M SLI mounted cards.
