How to Convert Videos to AVCHD Compatible with Blu-ray players/PS3?

Yumaiko

I have copied cartoon DVD to AVI and need a video converter that supports AVCHD. Since I have not tried this before, I want to make sure if I could play AVCHD on Blu-ray players/PS3 or not, If it is possible, could you guys please recommend some hot video converters or any other tool I can use.
Thanks.

Answer
Hi,

Since I don't have a PS3, I've no idea whether it supports AVCHD or not. However, to convert AVI to AVCHD for later play on Blu-ray players, you may try WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe.

It supports almost all known regular & HD video formats as well as converting videos to devices like iPhone, iPad, Apple TV HD, PSP, PS3, Xbox, etc.

Another way of enjoying AVCHD video on Blu-ray player, also my own experience, if you have Blu-ray disc. The advantage is that you can backup Blu-ray movie directly to computer without any other video converter. Then enjoy it on DA player which is free for watching HD or Blu-ray movies at home.

Hope it help!

Is there something deficient about the blu ray player on the PS3?

Iceberg22

It just seems too good to be true.

So you can purchase a PS3 with a blu ray player for 400. Yet, to buy a blu ray player individually, you would have to pay 400-600.

Is the blu ray player on the PS3 deficient?

Answer
To my knowledge, there are no issues with the Blu-ray disc player on the PS3. In fact, the PS3 has generally been acclaimed as a very decent Blu-ray player, and great for value.

Sony has been using the PS3 as a platform to promote the Blu-ray disc as next-gen format. As a result, until this year, Sony actually was performing at a loss/break-even in terms of profit for the PS3 division (as a result of the 'low' pricing). Supposedly they have started entering the profit band now since manufacturing costs have come down (cheaper Blu-ray & cell production, no more emotion chip needed, etc.).

Certainly, the PS3 is not a dedicated Blu-ray player, so some of the specialized players you buy may offer some customization and adjustments you can't find on the PS3. But in terms of playback, there should be absolutely no issues with the PS3.

The PS3 is being promoted as not just a gaming system, but as a full-fledged home media entertainment system. Because of this, in addition to Blu-ray, the PS3 includes capabilities to play DVDs, CDs, SACDs, and various PC media formats like mp3s, avis, mpgs as if it were an HTPC, so you should expect it will play Blu-rays as well as any other player.

Blu ray or a upscaling player? Is blu ray disc player worth it to buy?

elle

I just bought a LCD 1080i. I"m debating on just buying upscaling or blu ray disc player. Can Blu ray play regular DVDs and play on 1080i format? Or should I just save money and by a upscaling player that plays regular DVDs. How is the output on the upscaling player?

Answer
Not an easy question to answer.

First, you will have to decide based on YOUR priorities ... but let me offer some things to consider.

- Blu-ray is, and will likely remain, a niche premium format for people who can benefit and are willing to pay the premium price (~$300+ for the player and $5-$20 more for disks of the same movie vs DVD).

- Opinion of Blu-ray can vary from "wow!" to "what's all the fuss about" ... depending on how it is being displayed.

- To FULLY benefit you need a 40" or larger 1080p HDTV, with a good surround sound system capable of handling the advanced audio formats.

- You will still get some benefit from Blu-ray with a 720p HDTV (what you have), but you don't mention screen size, where you intend to watch from and whether you have a good sound system ... all of which influence the benefit/cost equation.

- Many Blu-ray films are poorly mastered and don't look much better than DVD even under optimum conditions.

- An upconverting DVD player won't make a DVD look as good as a Blu-ray disk, but on a 720p HDTV under about 40" detail will look fairly close. But picture quality is subjective -- and dependent on more than just resolution -- so you really have to see it for yourself and decide if Blu-Ray is worthwhile. Why not view a DVD and a Blu-ray disk on a HDTV similar to yours and see for yourself?

Personally I can say that I have a 720p projector and a 110" screen, and I tried HD DVD disks (which give essentially identical picture and audio quality to Blu-ray) and found insignificant improvement over upscaled DVDs. Since then I have bought 2 HD DVD tiltes (Planet eart and Sunrise Earth) and over 50 DVDs. I use my HD DVD player as an upscaling DVD player ... and pay about $20 less for movies than if I bought Blu-ray. So I guess I'm biased ... but upconverted DVD look just fine with me.

I should caution that not everyone sees the same thing (which is why I recommended seeing for yourself).

If you do consider an upconverting players note they are only as good as the video processing chip they use ... so avoid the under $60 models. The best are Oppo's models but they are a bit pricy.

BTW, if you do decide an upconverting DVD player is enough the liquidation prices (~$75) in effect on the Toshiba HD-A3 or Venture HD-7000 (Wal-Mart's brand) HD DVD player make them a very attractive option (and as a bonus you can play any of the 400 HD DVD movies available (Noting there will be very few new ones after this month)). But you will have to move fairly fast .. a lot of people have realized the same thing and they are getting snapped up fast.

Finally, if you decide on Blu-ray, other than the PS3, you should wait until near the end of the year to get a Profile 2.0 (BD-Live!) player, and for prices to come down a bit.

Hope that helps.

I'm running a Sony VAIO but it cant read blue ray cd's so if i downloaded a blue ray movie would i be able to watch it?

Answer
Yes. Because when you download a movie, it's already been converted to a format that will play from the hard drive - so it doesn't matter if your computer has a CD, DVD, Blu-Ray or no optical drive at all. But there are several different formats for video files, and sometimes your computer needs to have a the right codec software installed first. So if it won't play after you download it, try installing the free K-Lite codec pack.

Mix, edit and share videos online
There's no shortage of video-sharing sites nowadays. You can upload
or watch videos on sites like YouTube and Yahoo! Video.
However, most video sites offer little flexibility. To edit or mix
clips, you need your own software.
Jumpcut is a video-sharing site that gives you more control. In fact,
it lets you take over others' videos as well.
As with other sites, you can upload your own clips to Jumpcut. It
provides an online video editor, so you can cut and remix your clips.
You also can upload still photos and arrange a slide show. Jumpcut can
import pictures from Flickr, the popular photo-sharing site.

You can upload videos and photos through the site or via e-mail. In
e-mail, simply include your artwork as an attachment. Jumpcut will
automatically add it to your account.

Jumpcut allows you to remix other members' videos. You can reorder the
scenes or borrow footage for your own videos. The original version
stays intact, so you won't step on anyone's toes. You can restrict
your clips from others if you wish.

Jumpcut is still in beta (testing), so it may have a few kinks. It

blu ray player 5.1 surround sound image

JC

I have a blu ray dvd player and would like to buy 5.1 surround sound speakers to go with it. Will it be equipped with decoder to support 5.1 surround sound speakers or not.

Answer
Not directly. You will need the speakers and some type of surround amplifier/receiver ... not just the speakers. That said, all Blu-ray players have built in 5.1 dolby digital decoders (and many have advanced decoders for 7.1 formats increasingly used on Blu-ray (but not DVD) disks).

Can you hook up a Blu Ray player to a Panasonic surround sound system?

Q. I'm interested in buying a Blu Ray player, but I don't want to buy a new surround sound system.
I forgot to mention that the surround sound system has a DVD player built into it.

Answer
Some entry level surround systems have few or even no audio inputs. If you want 5.1 surround, then your surround receiver would need to have an optical (or coaxial) digital audio input (and the Blu-ray player would need an audio output to match, either optical or digital).

If your surround receiver has stereo audio inputs (red and white color coded RCA inputs), then you could connect the Blu-ray player that way, but this would be 2.0 stereo, and not 5.1 surround.

If you can get the audio connected to the surround system, I am guessing you would still connect the Blu-ray player's video output directly to the TV, because your receiver probably has no video input, or at least no HD video input.

im going to get a PS2 controller to USB dongle and plug in my PS2 dvd remote sensor so i can finally use my Harmony to control the PS3, but does blu ray have different funtionality that makes it mandatory for the bluetooth remote. (i dont have the PS3 yet)

Answer
No the bluetooth remote is not mandatory and a USB>IR dongle is a well-used solution already for those requiring a universal remote.

I do not think you can use the coloured function short-cuts however that the Blu-ray Discs are coming with now, but all the main features (play, pause, menu, etc.) should work fine.

How different are the Graphics from SIMS 3 Wii and PS3?

music54

I like that Wii has *multi-player and you can *freely move your character and have *weather
BUT
I want to know the graphic difference and Loading difference. Thanks , and even if you know allot about at least one of the systems that would be great!

Answer
ps 3 slim is better. Because its have more graphics and more free online games.

PS3 Slim Pros:
- More affordable $299 price;
- slimmer, more compact design with quieter operation;
- all games in high-definition; easy-to-use interface;
- doubles as a Blu-ray and upscaling DVD player;
- built-in Wi-Fi;
- HDMI output with 1080p support;
- built-in Web browser; free online gaming service.

Ps3 Slim Cons:
- Lacks backward support for PS2 games;
- no infrared port means non-Bluetooth universal remotes aren't compatible;
- online gaming, media, and commerce options still aren't as fully developed as Xbox Live, though they're getting better.

I'm looking for Blu-Ray player with BD Live and a connection for Sirius or XM. I really like to get one that is a recorder IF it's worth it. I am also looking for one that can upscale DVD's running a 5.1 channel digital or analog outputs.

Thanks.

Answer
I agree with MTS, the Oppo BDP-80 is an outstanding universal player, it has 7.1 channel outputs so if your receiver won't decode the new HD audio formats, the Oppo will. I don't believe there are any recorders out yet - except for a computer connected drive. As far as a Sirius/XM connection an AV receiver would have those, not a stand alone blu-ray player.

Hello,I work at a video store, and we were told they would sell for anywhere in between 500-700 just because they play the blu-ray dvd's....and keep in mind just to buy a blue ray dvd player will be around 800.00,so the ps3 is cheaper...and it plays games and the blue ray all! I am pretty sure it will be a similar price....I woulc just check around...Radio shack will be higher...I know this for a FACT....I am not sure if other retail places such as walmart and sam's will offer it ,but if they do it will be cheaper there.

Can you play the picture on your computer screen through your tv with only a hdmi cable?

blu ray player usb video playback
on Disc Player With Built-in Wi-fi Full Hd 1080p Blu-ray Disc Playback ...
blu ray player usb video playback image

Bexs

I am looking to play the picture that is coming through on my laptop through my tv screen. Is an hdmi cable the right way to do this? I am mainly wanting to use this for video calls (ie skype), and am just wanting to make sure that if I brought this cable, that I would be able to plug my computer into my tv (via the cable) and have the moving picture on the laptop playback through my tv's screen. Is this possible?

Answer
Yes I recommend you use a hdmi cable.

- Primary monitor means you choose one monitor to use and have picture.
- Dual monitor means you have two monitors on viewing the same thing.
- Extended monitor means extra room to put stuff onto using how many monitors you want.ect
.ect

For video + audio: Best.
- 1st hdmi cable to hdmi out on computer/laptop to hdmi in on receiver for surround sound audio, then 2nd hdmi cable to hdmi out on receiver to hdmi in on tv for tv video.
or
- dvi-d + s/pdif to hdmi converter and then use the above setup.
or
- Hdmi cable to hdmi out on computer/laptop to hdmi in on tv for tv video and tv audio.

(Instead of to tv, you could go from receiver first with any video cable, then hdmi from receiver to tv and maybe your receiver can upconvert/upscale other video signals other than hdmi-set the settings).

For video: From best to least.
- hdmi out on computer/laptop to hdmi in on tv.
or
- dvi out on computer/laptop to dvi in on tv.
or
- dvi-d to hdmi cable (does not carry audio).
or
- vga out on computer/laptop to vga in on tv.
or
- component out on computer/laptop to component in on tv.
or
- s video(super-video) out on computer/laptop to s video in on tv.
or
- composite video (video) out on computer/laptop to composite video in on tv.
or
- coax video out on computer/laptop to coax video in on tv.

(For audio, it is possible to go to tv with hdmi cable, then tv's audio outs go to receiver).

For audio: From best to least.
- hdmi out on computer/laptop to hdmi in on receiver.
or
- s/pdif coaxial or s/pdif optical out on computer/laptop to s/pdif coaxial or s/pdif optical in on receiver.
or
- rca, Red (right channel) and white (left channel) stereo out on computer/laptop to in on receiver or tv.

Now there is usb options.
- Like displayport cable to hdmi adaptor, or use a regular usb on a blu-ray player.

For audio:
- You have to use a hdmi cable for audio if you have a 8 channel=7.1 surround sound speaker system hooked/wired up to your 7.1 receiver. You want to use hdmi cable for audio if your receiver supports the dolby-true-hd or dts-hd surround sound formats.
- You need to download k-lite codec pack for windows media player or media player classic and use ffdshow decoder (output -> ac3 s/pdif encode mode+48000 hz+many other settings) to send a surround sound signal through a s/pdif cable.

For computer speakers for sound card audio:
- If you have a sound card that supports multi-channel audio (select output + 5.1 or 7.1.ect speaker setup).
- Some computers have a sound card that can decode audio to a receiver.

For video:
- You need a video driver that supports multiple monitors and/or can use dual/clone view.
or
- If you cannot use the above (if your video driver is up to date and is not able to do multiple monitors or dual/clone view),
- Method 1: Use a control center for your video driver or windows media center so you can set your tv as your primary monitor+many other settings.
(I have a ati display driver, so I downloaded a matching version of my ati display driver with ati/amd catalyst control center).
- Method 2: Shut down computer, hook up video cable, disconnect your monitor (vga), turn tv onto either video 1 or hdmi or w/e works, then turn on computer and video will display on tv.

Vizio Bluray VBR120 not recognizing my Seagate external hard drive?

Sapphyreop

I am trying to watch videos on my hard drive on my bluray via external hard drive and it's not recognizing the player at all. Help! I have the Seagate STAY3000100 3TB if that helps at all.
Yeah, I think you're right. I got bad information from somewhere. I purchased this hard drive a few weeks ago and recently bought this hard drive to play movies via my bluray. Do you know of any blurays that can play movies off of hard drives?

Answer
According to the information that I can find on your blu-ray player, it only supports jpeg (pictures) and mp3's (music). The unit does not support video via USB

In addition to the above disc formats, the VBR120 lets you play back MP3s from a connected USB device, or display and view slideshows of your favorite JPEG photos. You can also play these formats back from disc, if you'd prefer to burn them to a DVD or CD.

I want to be able to run multiple games that require a high graphics card and a fast processor at the same time.

Answer
I suggest making your own. If you want a high end computer, I suggest
Geforce 680 GTX 2gb
Intel i7 ivybridge
A good 700 watt modular psu
A fan with great cooling. I use the Apevia X-Trooper and it works great, but collects dust.
the 12x Blu-Ray Player & DVDRW Combo you mentioned
R.A.T. 7 or 9 Gaming mouse.
A good gaming keyboard like the Logitech Gaming Keyboard G110
A gaming motherboard, look into it.
A processor with atleast Quad Core or more, over 3GHz
16gb Vengeance RAM
An aftermarket heatsink for your cpu, unless you want to look into watercooling (More expensive, but keeps computer cooler and much much quieter)
Good luck!
If you don't wanna build one, check out the CyberPower computers or AlienWare computers.

Anyone know where a computer like this is?

Q. Windows 7 64-bit. I want one with at least 1TB of HDD and 6-8gb of memory.I'd like a fast/good quad-core processor. A blu ray player would be nice. I was looking at HP brand or something better. What store(not through online) can I get this at and what is the price to expect? Somewhere around the 700 range would be ideal. I already have an 24' HD monitor so that won't be necessary. I only need the tower.

Answer
you can build all that for less then $700. Newegg.com

computer manufacturers like HP, dell, ect ect. are all manufaturer computers all overpriced, and you have a crappy motherboard(usually the HP and Dells manufacture there own motherboards, to limit things for you to do to it, upgrades and bios access.)

if you really want i can help you build a computer it will be alteast $700 because you only have $600 for hardware and $100 for OS. just PM me

Can I return an item to best buy that was purchased with rewardzone points and get full store credit?

I received a Blu-Ray player from Best Buy but I already have one. The buyer informed me he used rewardzone points and he is not sure I can get full store credit. The store is an hour away, and I can never get someone on the phone. Will they give me full store credit, or will the rewards certificates decrease the value of the item?

Answer
What will most likely happen is that they will offer you an exchange for the value of the player. Those programs rarely is ever give cash back because think of it this way: Every person and their mother wants the mooooola. So they cash in their points for electronics, and then return the electronics, and now the store has a "used item", which is worth less than what it originally was worth, and the "buyer" now has the cash. Now, if you and I had a store, would we allow that? I'm just using an example.

See if you can get a trade.

How do you get your surround sound to work with DVD and Satellite system?

RILEA ROCK

We got a Curtis surround sound system(not wireless) that came with a sub-woofer, 5 small speakers and a DVD/Blu-Ray player today. We have the speakers hooked up to the DVD player but don't know what we need to use to hook it to the satellite so it works on both.
We have two extra cables and we are not sure where to use them or even if we have to... the cables are the ones usually plugged in for the audio (the red and white ended cords).

Answer
Unfortunately those HTIBs (Home Theater In a Box) trade quality and connectivity for convenience and as such, you are often not able to fully utilize all of your components to their highest quality with one.

That being said there are ways to connect everything together. Your best option is to connect the satellite box to the TV with the highest quality connection possible (HDMI) and then connect the satellite box to the home theater system using a digital coax or digital optical cable. You'll want to avoid using the red/white RCA cables if you can as they do NOT have the ability to carry surround sound.

Also, you'll want to avoid connecting your TV to your home theater system by the audio out of the TV as the vast majority of the time this connector is unable to transmit a surround sound signal. The TV manufactures do not spend the extra money to make a TV that can only produce stereo audio, able to pass through surround sound.

I have the Sony BDP-S185, and it has a lot of internet apps with it. The problem i am having is You Tube. I can only watch You Tube videos in boring Standard Definition. I wanna watch You Tube HD 720p videos in all their glory. Any suggestions on a different Blu Ray player made by another company without the standard definition limitation?

Answer
From what I can research, the app that YouTube creates for Blu-Ray players does not have this function. I would suggest contacting YouTube.

What blu-ray player home theater in a box sounds the best?

Got a panasonic home theater w/ 5 disc DVD back in 2006 at circuit city for $340. Out of all the units I was blown away by the sound quality. The subwoofer could be a bit bigger, but you can see the windows shake, with it all turned up. Well the time has come to update. I got a refurbished blue-ray panasonic receiver and I am moving it up to the bedroom. I have been looking at some Samsung 3d smart 1000watt home theaters. Does anyone have Samsung surround sound system and like it? Or would like to recommend one. I don't want to hear how crappy the box units are and how I should get a huge receiver, speakers and blu- ray player.(unless you can lead me to a place to get a good receiver and speakers for $200.) Looking for something 200-350 new or refurbished. Also what all do you need to make a blue- ray, DVD or whatevers remote go through a cabinet door? Thank you

Answer
Those home theater in a box are not a very good system. They are not flexible for adding anything to them or for up grading. Don't be mislead to the powering rating they provide. You are not going to find a stand alone receiver and a set of good speaker for the budget you have in mind. They only thing that I can recommend is the Onkyo HT-S3500. It is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speaker. You can demo the unit at a Fry's Electronic and retails for around the $280. This is better than any home theater in a box. You add a Panasonic blu ray disc player and you have a nice dependable system. You need to demo the Samsung and let your own ears be the judge. Hope this will help you out.

Go to the Apple web site, under support. They may have an update for you.

Is Apple planning on putting a blue ray drive in any of their computers?

Shawn

Im planning on buying a mac within the next 6 months, and i was wondering if they were gonna put a blueray player in. Should i wait till after keynote of '10, or should i go ahead and get something (This computer would be for my own work. We have a desktop for home, but there are 5 people living here, and work gets dificult.)

Thanks.

Answer
Hey, buddy. I would suggest waiting for Keynote '10.

I have long been waiting to hear the good news myself, and I can tell you right off the bat: it's incredibly likely they'll come out with it. In fact, I can GUARANTEE they will. It will be stadardised, eventually (For all devices).

The question is, of course, "When?".

I would say at the earliest it would come out during the first quarter of 2010 (Specifically January/February are targeted). That's also around the time the rumoured TabletMac will arise.

At the VERY latest: Christmas 2010.

Now I can verify via *many* rumours, that Blu-Ray machines have been tested and software has been developed in fore-support for it. (iTunes for Mac has even specifically listed that it will have compatibility with Blu-Ray media). There are far too many rumours for me to go through here, that certainly support the notion that Blu-Ray will be adopted.

What the setback has been this whole time, is Blu-Ray's licensing. Steve Jobs had noted that the licensing was "a bag of hurt". Basically, Apple doesn't want to end up paying more money to have Blu-Ray, than they'll make from the feature.

By the way, here's a giant pile of rumours regarding Blu-Ray you can sift through, if you need self-assurance (which I can relate to :P):

http://www.macrumors.com/site.php?mode=search&term=blu-ray&submit=Search+Site

.-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+.
Solution
.-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+-=+.

There's a bit of a solution to your problem here, in which you can get an Mac now, and have Blu-Ray support (though I would HIGHLY recommend waiting). You may know that (Intel)Macs can run Windows NATIVELY (No emulation, totally naturally), which is great. You could go out to a Best Buy, navigate to Newegg.com - or any other place for electronics, for that matter - and purchase an external Blu-Ray read/write drive - and use it in the Windows OS.

BUT, don't think for a second that drive will be recognised and work in OS X! It won't. Perhaps when support comes along legitimately, the drive you purchase will be supported. But like I said I highly suggest you wait it out, man. I waited when I got my Mac and I couldn't be happier!

In whatever you do, good luck, I hope it all turns out well for you, mate. God bless you, and merry Christmas! ^_^

What will you do with your HD DVD machine?

And, do you think should be a law to avoid "format wars" that leave thousands of consumers with useless machines (and you can be sure they will get no refund).?

Answer
well i tried to play it smart and waited for the war to settle. You should check ebay and see HD-DVD players going as low as $50!!!!! As for laws, I just don't think a law could work in this situation, because there would be intense disputes between companies who make the formats like Sony and Toshiba. But hey, those with an HD-DVD player, put the player in its box, and sell it as a "like-new" antique on ebay in 30 years.

What is the usb port on my blu ray player for?

Chris

On my blu ray player there is a usb port and i have no clue what it is for. I tried plugging my ipod in and playing it but it didnt work. Any ideas?

Answer
Since you don't give any information about make or model number my answer has to be generic. The USB port could be for a number of things. It could allow you to plug in a USB drive, flash drive or hard drive. You might be able to display pictures, play music or possibly even videos. The USB port could also be for WiFi connectivity allowing you to connect to the internet. The best place to get specific information about your unit is to read your manual or go online to the manufacturer's web site.

How due I burn a blu Ray torrent file?

I am downloading a torrent that is in blu ray quality. I want to burn this to a disk. Would it be possible to burn it to a DVD? Will the quality be as good? I dont have a blu ray player so I want to watch a high quality movie

Answer
If you want to play the burned dvd disk on regular DVD player, you have to convert and burn the blu Ray movies to standard video DVD, because most dvd players only recognizes the standard video DVD well, but standard standard video DVD only supports 720x480(ntsc) or 720x576(pal) video resolution highest, so you can't keep the video resolution higher than this when convert blu Ray movies to standard video DVD, the program will lower the blu Ray movie video resolution to fit the standard video DVD, and if your DVD player support Divx or Xvid video, you can convert your blu Ray movies to HD Divx AVI movies or HD Xvid AVI movies, then play on your Divx or Xvid DVD player. Convert and burn Blu Ray movies to Standard Video DVD, or HD Divx/Xvid AVI movies, you can try RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any movies to HD Divx/Xvid AVI movies or Standard video DVD. You can yahoo or google search RZ DVD Creator and download it, easy to use, hope these info can help you.
