Why isn't my Blu-Ray Player working?

Veronica

I have a Sony Blu-Ray player and my TV is a Samsung. When I plug it in it's fine and when I play a DVD everything is fine. But when I put in a blu-ray disc, there's something like static on the TV screen.

Answer
First thing to try is what is called a firmware update. A unique aspect of Blu Ray players is that they require downloaded updates - which is why they have an Internet connection (older players required you to download data on the computer, burn it to disc, and insert the disc into the player). If yours is an older unit without Internet, this may be what you need to do. If in doubt, check the player owner's manual if you have it, or do a Google search for it using the player model followed by "owners manual".

Other possibility is indeed a failure of the player. Brands are cross compatible, so this is indeed an issue with the player. Do the update first, then replace the player if that does not fix the problem.

Can I play HD home videos on a dvd on my blu-ray player?

joshin

I have a Flip Ultra HD camcorder that takes video in 720p. I don't have a BD burner in my computer, just a DVD burner. Is there any way that I can burn my home videos to a DVD that will play on my blu-ray player in HD?

I know that I could burn a regular DVD, but all of my videos will be reduced to 480p. (At least that is my understanding.) I own a copy of Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0, or I would be willing to download any other reputable freeware that will get the job done. I just don't even know what to search for.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Answer
If i have got this right you want to burn an Hd video onto a standard DVD, if that right then its not going to work. But you can play standard DVD's on blue ray players.

Can I burn a Mkv/hdx264 to dvd and play on blu ray player?

Messenger

Can I burn a Mkv/hdx264 to dvd and play on blu ray player..Just to save money on discs because blank blu ray disks are so expensive. Looking to purchase blu ray player that plays mkv/x264 etc. any experience.

Answer
Yes, you can. But not sure the quality would be as good as you expect/source video.
Besides, do you confirm your blu-ray player supports playing a DVD (as I know, most blu-ray players do support DVD playback, too).
You can use a freeware named Any Video Converter to burn the MKV video file to DVD, it should not take much time for the burning process complete. If you find the program cost too much time for the burning, then I advise you could convert the MKV to MP4 firstly, then burn the new MP4 file to blank DVD disc, that can save some time as per my experience.

Internet connection to LG smart Tv through blu-ray player?

Jacob

Hi, Weâve recently purchased an LG 3D smart Tv which can stream internet on its installed browser. Also bought along with it was a 3D Blu-ray player which has wireless capabilities. We were sold a HDMI-ethernet cable for the connection between the blu-ray and Tv. but we canât seem to get the internet connection to reach the TV through the Blu-ray player. the blu-rayâs connection to the internet is fine and we can browse youtube videos on the player, but the connection doesnât go any further. When searching for a connection for the Tv it cannot find anything. :/

Can someone PLEASE help?? otherwise spending the extra grand was pointless. :/
hmm thank you minnie. but we were sold the blu-ray because it should act as a wireless adapter for the Tv.

Answer
I've never head of anyone trying to connect the internet to the DVD then out of the DVD to the set. How is the DVD passing the internet through to the TV? I suspect it's not. The DVD has apps that are internet capable and so does the set. Each needs it's own independent connection to the internet either ethernet or wireless.

Can you connect a blu ray player to the internet through a usb connection?

Atheos

I have a blu ray player that only has a wifi connection. There is no ethernet port but it does have a usb port. I know a wired connection is far superior than a wireless connection. So is there a way to connect to the internet with some sort of usb wire that connects to the modem?

Answer
sorry, no. See on this device it would seem that the USB is there only to use as a storage device (if you are watching movies you have saved onto your computer you watch them through a thumb drive on the player) Yes a wired connection CAN be faster....if it's over the proper TYPE! See wifi can allow for pretty fast speeds, but the USB is generally limited. USB has different types, each one faster than the last, but still fairly slow here's an idea of transfer rates! USB2.0=480mb/s USB3.0=5000mb/s ethernet= (10 base-t)10mb/s (100 base-t) 100mb/s (1000 base-x) 1000mb/s thunderbolt (only for MAC)=10gb/s (this is the fastest transfer rate you can find without specialized equipment) so that's for different types of wired connections WiFi CAN be faster, but this is dependent on how well the devices are working. Now as far as ACTUALLY CONNECTING to the internet, only with a dongle that you purchase, which ONLY allows wifi connection (pointless since you're already connected). USB isn't really made for internet but rather for file transfers. The point is, that NO you can't connect a USB port to your router for the uses that you want it for!

are there blu ray drivers for a regular dvd player on a laptop supporting windows vista?

Q. Hello, is there a way to download a program or drivers that will allow my dvd player to play blu ray disks on my laptop with windows vista?

Answer
LOLOL

No. Blu Ray is HARDWARE. So, in order to play Blu Ray discs, you need a Plu Ray Player. Only a Blu Ray drive will play Blu Ray discs. This is not done through software.

Can a windows 7 computer replace a PS3 or xbox, Tivo hd, and a blu-ray and dvd player?

TOOTAl2

Answer
not really. windows 7 is able to replace your DVD player and Blu-ray player if you hook it to your television and are willing to go through the widows boot process anytime you want to watch a movie. There are DVR programs you can install that give you DVR functionality but they lack the easy interface of a dedicated TIVO. you can often find PC versions of XBOX games because they are both microsoft products but Playstation keeps a pretty tight riegn on their gaming franchises so even though you can download PS3 emulators (illegally mind you) they will never match up to using the hardware the game was designed for. If you choose to go this rought then you need a PC with Windows 7 or the new windows 8 demo version, a TV tuner card, a blu-ray drive, a PS3 emulator (again illegal), a bluetooth adaptor (for linking your PS3 and XBOX controllers), and DVR software. Your probably looking at $500-$800 depending on brand and you still would have to have a computer that has a strong enough processor and enough memory to run all of this.

Blu ray player vs streaming player?

Heather

I'm trying to figure out which would be better, a built in wifi blu ray player or a streaming player, such as roku. I would like something I can stream netflix, etc on. I already have a blu ray player but it cant stream. Would it be better to get a blu ray player that I can stream netflix, or something like roku which has more streaming options? They seem to be comparable in price.

Answer
I would get the Blu-Ray with streaming, and keep the old one as a spare.

Which is better Roku or any smart blu ray player?

montoy_vlv

My new TV has no wifi but I wanted to view youtube videos and stream movies, so, I'm thinking of buying a roku or a smart blu ray player. Note that Roku doesn't have youtube or does it?

Answer
You can get youtube through a Roku channel called Media Buzz. It allows you to log in to your youtube account, or just surf the site.

Which brands of Blu Ray players have You Tube apps, where you can watch videos in HD?

Rick C

I have the Sony BDP-S185, and it has a lot of internet apps with it. The problem i am having is You Tube. I can only watch You Tube videos in boring Standard Definition. I wanna watch You Tube HD 720p videos in all their glory. Any suggestions on a different Blu Ray player made by another company without the standard definition limitation?

Answer
From what I can research, the app that YouTube creates for Blu-Ray players does not have this function. I would suggest contacting YouTube.

LG Blu-ray player with built in wifi?

mara

Ok so i'm lloking to by this LG Blu-ray player with built in wifi and I have some questions because I have no Idea how they work. I have a 32' Emerson LED Flatscreen TV

1.) How do they work?
2.) What do they do? What can you do with them?
3.) Do you need to have internet to use the wifi?
4.) Will it work with my tv?
5.) Can you browse the internet on your tv with it?
6.) Can you connect a laptop to it and use the wifi

I know a lot of question but i'm 15 and not very tech savy when it comes to Blu-ray players
Thanks!

Answer
2.) What do they do? What can you do with them? It's really depends on what kinda app come with it. Usually netflix, vudu movies (with vudu you can buy and rent movies), probably YouTube and pandora

3.) Do you need to have internet to use the wifi? Yes, you will not be able to use the apps like netflix without internet

4.) Will it work with my tv? Yes you will probably need a hdmi cable if it doesn't come with it, witch it usually doesn't . It will probably come with 3 cables yellow red and white, but the get a good picture you will need hdmi

5.) Can you browse the internet on your tv with it? Most DVD player do not have that feature so probably not just YouTube

6.) Can you connect a laptop to it and use the wifi? No, but there are other things that can do that like Apple TV

If I have a 3D LED TV, do I need a 3D blu ray player as well to play 3D Blu ray movies?

isshhee

So what I have is a Samsung 3D LED TV (Model F6100) and a bluray player that isn't 3D. Can I still buy 3D DVDs and play them on it and have my TV do the 3D conversion or whatever?

Answer
Yes, you need both a 3D capable source and 3D capable display to properly play 3D Blu-ray movies. Some TVs have the ability to upscale 3D video from a 2D source but it's just a "best guess"algorithm that will leave some video artifacts, and not be true 3D video. Here's an article on the subject:

http://www.popsci.com/gadgets/article/2010-01/how-2-d-video-becomes-3-d

Will 3d Blu ray player upgrade standard dvds into 3d and therefore be able to be watched in 3dtv?

DeNeLL

Ok so i have a LG lx6500 and an xbox 360 with hdmi 1.3
when i play dvds through my xbox and use the 3d function in my LG tv there is no effect on 3d

my question is, if i buy a 3d bluray player, specifically this one (http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/home-theatre/home-theatre-systems/HT-C5900/XSA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=feature) will my normal dvds be changed to 3d by the player and therefore should play in my 3d tv properly? I also have an external harddrive with dvdrip/bdrip movies, if i plug that in the 3d blu ray player will it change it to 3d as well?

thank you

Answer
Some 3D TVs can do a 2D to 3D conversion in real time, but I have not read about any 3D disc players offering that feature yet. You should be aware that the conversion is not a very convincing effect. The detailed explanation below is from Cnet (http://news.cnet.com/3d-tv-faq/):

11. Can I watch current 2D shows, movies, games, and other content in 3D?

That depends on the TV. Samsung, Sony and Toshiba models will include 2D to 3D conversion processing that will allow viewers to "watch everything in 3D." However, we don't expect these systems, especially in their first generation, to come close to the realism of true 3D content. We checked out a canned demo of Toshiba's process at CES and it seemed to work, but it certainly could stand improvement.

Panasonic's 2010 3D TVs announced so far do not offer 2D to 3D conversion. No other TV manufacturer (namely LG and Vizio among current purveyors of 3D TVs) has announced a built-in conversion system. Given the lack of true 3D content, we wouldn't be surprised to hear about a add-on 2D to 3D solution that works with the new TVs.

Are Blu-Ray Rips able to be burned to a DVD and played on a DVD player?

Pat G

a Blu-ray Ripped Movie (BRRIP) as shown here: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6472396/The.Adjustment.Bureau.BRRIP.MP4.x264.720p-HR

Can this be Burned to a DVD, and played on a DVD player? or since its a Blu-Ray rip, it cannot? i'd apprecaite any answers on the topic!

Answer
Hi friend, you can burn Blu-ray movies to common dvd movies and then play on a dvd player, only with the use of a Blu-ray copy, just like this one: http://www.blu-ray-software.net/blu-ray-copy/. A bluray copy is a tool to help you backup your bluray movies onto hard disk or dvd discs for safekeeping and convenient playback.
Hope this would be helpful and have fun.

Do region free blu ray players also play any sort of DVD?

Elizabeth

I want to buy the new Hollow Crown DVD but I don't to wait a year. Also I want a Blu ray player b.c I need one lol. I know that Blu ray can play DVD but can region free also play DVD?

Answer
It depends on the player and on how far the unlocking goes...

You can buy a Blu-ray player that is unlocked for DVD only. This will play any region locked DVDs (codes 1~6), but it will only play Blu-rays for the zone you live in, i.e. Zone A - American continent, Zone B - Europe, etc. So, a player unlocked like this would play DVDs from around so you could buy the Hollow Crown DVD and play it.

Buying a fully unlocked Blu-ray player (Any Blu-ray zone + any DVD region) is possible but it is very expensive.

The alternative is to use a PC and some copy software to make a back-up disc that plays without having to worry about regions or zones. Google is your friend :-)

american blu ray, european ps3?

HAZE

I have star trek original series 1 on blu-ray that I won in the usa. I was wondering if it will work on my ps3. I haven't opened the box yet, as if it doesn't work, I intend on selling it.

Answer
I'm guessing that you are living outside of North or South America...

If so, you have to know that Blu-Ray discs are geographically zoned and most likely you are in a different zone, so you won't be able to read your American Blu-Ray.

I was told that the technology to de-zone a Blu-Ray player does not exist yet (but will eventually come out someday).

Will my blu ray player be able to play videos from an external hard drive?

John

http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-bd-d6500-3d-blu-ray-player-10096437-pdt.html

That is the blu ray player I got yesterday and I can play videos on it from a memory stick but I don't know if it will play them from an external hard drive. It says in the product description it can but I don't see how it would be powerful enough to power the hard drive
I'll probably also have to format it in fat32

Answer
Modern hard drives are powered from USB, like almost all WD Passport Essential devices. The question is, whether the player supports ntfs and/or ext3/ext4 filesystems, which is required for storing files over 4 gigabytes, or just fat32, which is pretty much limited in size and maximum file size.

Limitations of FAT32: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/184006 For some reason I think this player is even more limited, since it has not too much RAM installed. I've seen DVD players which could use a stick, but limited to FAT32 and 2 gigabytes.

Toshiba External Hard Drive Question?

Q. I just got a 1TB Toshiba external hard drive, and I put all of my .avi movies along with all my music and photos on it. It works fine on my computer and other computers, but I tried to connect it, through a USB port, to my parents Sony Blu-Ray player and it said that it was 'not supported'. Is there any way to have it recognize the hard drive at all? I've read a lot of forums that said the .avi movie files cannot be seen, but is there any way to view the photos or music? If not, it's no big, I can hook up my computer to my tv at my house, but I was hoping to share movies I made and photos with my family before I went back there. Any help at all is appriciated.

Answer
Sony Blu-Ray player support USB port, so u can convert your .avi video to M2TS or or other Sony Blu-Ray player compatible formats for enjoying. I suggest u use foxreal video converter to solve this problem. I have used this software. It can convert between various of formats with excellent output quality. You can try it.
I know Sony Blu-Ray player support JPEG image format. You can convert it.
I help you find foxreal video converter download link. Holp it helps u.

Will this Wireless USB work with a Blu-Ray player?

Rich_A

I want to be able to stream netflix instant play through my new bluray player that is wifi ready. I am just wondering if this product will do the trick, or if this device is only meant for computers. Thanks.

http://www.amazon.com/Tenda-W311U-150Mbps-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B0041C3NT8
The blu-ray player is a Sony one... it has a USB port but doesnt have a built-in wifi, if that matters. I was just curious because it looks like this wireless device comes with a CD that you have to use to install something, and Im not sure if you can install whatever it is that's needed on a bluray player, as you would on a computer.

Answer
It depends on the make and model of your blu ray player but more than likely it will not work, you have to buy the USB module that is specific to your blu ray player and usually those cost a little more than the generic ones...

I need help buying a blu-ray player?

Hunter

I want a blu-ray player that can play DVDs and connect to Instant Netflix (Wireless Internet), and I don't want to spend more than $150. Can all blu-ray players play Instant Netflix and DVDs? What should I look for? Any suggestions? Thank you!!!

P.S. (If you could give me a link to a specific blu ray player that I want, I can guarantee you 'Best Answer')

Answer
No, not all Blu-Ray players can stream Internet videos. Only some. The $150 price range is the bottom for a unit that can stream Internet video through Wi-Fi. But there are some good models out there if you search hard enough. I found this LG unit that is wi-fi and can stream Internet content on Amazon and it's on sale for $158. You have to add it to your cart to see the price. And with Amazon, you get free shipping and no tax (unless you live in New York). See link below:

Is voodoo available on a blu-ray player?

Desiree

You know, like how it has youtube, netflix, and hulu and stuff. Can it have voodoo too?

Answer
Do you mean Vudu? If so, then it depends on the Blu-ray player. It would need to either have the VuDu app pre-installed, or be one of the players that allow you to add new apps.

Looking for a Blu-Ray Player?

Sam Hoffma

Hi, I'm looking for a (preferably cheap) Blu Ray player that has wifi, youtube, netflix, and great picture quality. Any help would be appreciated!

Note: I do NOT need/want 3D.
Edit: I don't want a PS3. 1. I'll feel obliged to buy games and spend more money, 2. It doesn't have youtube, and 3. I have an Xbox360.
Edit again: PS3 is also way too expensive. I'm looking for like 230 and lower, preferably much lower for a non-3D (making it non-new).

Answer
I have a Samsung BDP-6300T that I got as a BD gift from my in-laws. It is awesome and the last time I saw it at Costco they had gone from 250.00 CA to 170.00CA. This unit has it all and I love it WIFI came with Lord of the Rings, all cables too but would recommend a higher grade HDMI cable like Rocketfish or Monster for instance. Has all the apps like Netflix, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube you name it you got it as well as games, art work gallery, front media reading USB port reads everything on my external HD. Samsung also has an App for support services. What can I say Samsung products are the bomb. Good luck with your shopping.
P.S. Stay away from LG
Opp's almost forgot it is also DIVX HD capable
