Answer
You can't have 3D without a 3D Blu ray disc, 3D blu ray player a 3D TV, and the appropriate 3D glasses. Shame on whoever sold you you the TV without educating you.

How do you set up the 3D on a PS3 if you have a Philips 3D Blu-ray player?

I want to set up the 3D on my PS3, but I have a Philips 3D Blu-ray player. What do I do?

Answer
You just need to make sure you have the latest system update and that you're connected to a 3D-enabled TV via HDMI to use 3D on the PS3.

Can I plug a Blu-Ray player to a non-HD (read regular) TV?

blu ray player cheap
on Sony BDP-S760 Blu-Ray DVD Player.
blu ray player cheap image

There's an opportunity for me to buy a Blu-Ray player very cheap, but I'm not planning on buying a High-Def TV until later (next year).
Will it still work on my regular TV using component cables?
Will the movies "play" correctly?
Will I be able to access all the content on the discs?

Please help! Thanks!

Answer
of course you can ! And you already know the resolution will downgrade to your existing TV resolution / just think for a moment how badly an appliance manufacturer would screw themselves if they made their equipment incompatible with a huge installed base of TV owners who may not have some HD standard since there so many different ones or just a standard TV.

Companies like Sony and Panasonic wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot by making their players incompatible with people like you who don't yet have / but plan on buying an HD TV.

Also, consider the Sony PlayStation 3, is a BluRay player since many of their games come on the larger BluRay capacity disc and those also play fine on convetional and numerously different formatted HD / EDTV's.

Look at it a different way, lets say this BluRay player doesn't work with your TV for whatever reasons, research how much you could resell it for used on Amazon's Marketplace and compare what you're planning on paying for it to what you could resell it for.

If you can sell it for more than you paid for it then the decision for you to go ahead and purchase in anticipation for using it now, or waiting until you upgrade, or just reselling it for a profit.

Use those three factors as your criteria and make it a business decision.

What is the best Blu-ray player at a good price?

i need a blu ray player that can of course play blu ray and dvd's, but also can stream stuff like hulu or netflix, and also will let me play movies from a computer on my local area network.

being able to check the weather would be nice too.

any helpful advice is appreciated.

thank you.

Answer
Be careful. The inclusion of streaming apps in televisions and blu ray players is a "add on". I have 8 streaming apps on my Panasonic BluRay player. I have 28 on my WD TV Live box and my WD box has a better interface, gets updated every few weeks, streams from my PC or USB flash and HDD drives.

For $99 it is a much better device and experience. (And yes - it does have a Weather app).

My advice would be you get a good, basic BluRay player, but get your streaming apps from a media server like a Roku unit or the WD TV Live box.

Do I need a specific kind/brand of Blu-ray Player for it to work on my tv?

Peace Begi

I'm trying to buy a Blu-ray Player but I'm not sure if there is a specific kind/brand that I need for it to work on my tv, I have a HD Vizio TV. I'm looking on Best Buy for Blu-ray Players and they have all sort's of different brands, Like LG, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, And more. But there is no Vizio one I kind find, So I'm wondering does it really matter which brand I get? Will they all work for my tv? Oh and just looking for a high quality Blu-ray Player but I don't need these ones that come with built in wifi or apps or anything like that, It just makes it more expensive. All I want is a top quality Blu-ray player that will just play my Blu-ray movies of course, And one that works for my HD Vizio TV. Can you please help me? I would really appreciate it! I will give out a best answer, I always do.

Answer
You don't necessarily absolutely have to. All you really need to be sure of is to get one that has connections for your TV, sound system, and if need be, network.
A bonus is to get one the same brand as your TV, so you can use the CEC features.

How to connect my computer to my sony s370 blu ray player?

I know that there is a way to connect my computer to stream to my sony s370 blu ray player. I would like to know if I would need a cable of some sort to connect them and if so what kind?
I've been looking this up for days and would love if someone could help me figure this out.

Thank you in advance.

Answer
What you have to do is get a router then you connect the Blu ray and the computer to the router using cat5 or cat 6 cable or you could also go wireless if you have the proper adapters and equipment for that and then you create a network, for the computer and the blu ray, most routers will do this fairly easily using an included disk that you insert into the computer, the network is also connected to the Internet, the blu ray does not have a browser so you cannot go any where on the internet nor can you transfer anything you want from your computer, the blu ray is limited to certain sites on the Internet it can visit and certain things it can do. The blu ray will not connect directly to your computer but I think there may be a way to send still photos from the computer to the blu ray that will appear on the TV screen.

Should I buy a computer to play movies and streamline videos online instead of a blu ray player?

David

I'm thinking about buying another computer to hook up to my tv instead of a blu ray player. I would like to download and stream movies and tv shows. But I don't know if the quality would be very good. What do you think?

Answer
If you own a 360 that is a great alternative as you could stream everything on your pc to 360 via windows media player. No need to connect pc to tv, you just stream everything wireless.

When I drop in a standard DVD and choose "display" in the upper left corner it says 420p. When I drop in a Blu Ray DVD and click "display" it still says 420p. I have a Philips 37" LCD 1080p TV. Any suggestions? I bought a HDMI cable, cheap on the Internet, Could that be the issue?

Answer
First of all, to respond to what someone above said, there is no need for HDMI cables to support 120Hz. The 120Hz refresh is handled by the television, not the source or the cable. Therefore, there is no truth when someone tells you your HDMI cable can't handle 120Hz. It's not even just a lie, it's completely stupid.

Anyhow, reasons why your TV may be display blu-ray at 420p (I'm more inclined to believe that you are referring to either 480p or 720p)

-HDMI output settings (as someone else mentioned) are incorrect
-Blu-ray is also connected via composite cables and TV is on wrong input
-TV does not fully support HDCP, causing a drop in resolution.
-HDMI cable not accurately receiving authentication handshake from the TV (this would be a problem w/ the TV, not the HDMI cable).

It may also help if you post in Additional Details the model of the blu-ray player so we can check specific settings regarding HDMI output display settings. Also, the model of your Philips TV so we can research any known issues. And, lastly, if it only happens on one movie - the name of that movie could help. If not, disregard as this is most likely not the issue.

It may be something as simple as changing a setting or applying a firmware update to your blu-ray player or television.

Are there desktops with blu-ray players and hdmi outputs?

Don't know very much about computers. Just bought a 47" 1080p 120hz tv, was wondering if I could use it as a monitor and watch blu-rays? If so which model would be best? Thanks.

Answer
You can install a blu-ray drive such as http://www.amazon.com/LITE--Blu-ray-Internal-Optical-iHOS104/dp/B002EE996Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311195491&sr=8-1 on almost any desktop nowadays, and most graphics cards have HDMI out ports on them.

I bought an external hard drive. I want to play my digital movies on my TV. I have a Panasonic Vera that won't play MP4 (the format my movies are in). I know i can just convert them but the file browser is also very clunky and unattractive. I also have an Xbox and Samsung Blu-Ray player. My Xbox wants me to format the drive before i can use it, and the blu-ray player works, but it is extremely clunks and unattractive as well, which will work for a while, but i don't play to use it in the long run. Is there something I can buy that i can plug my 1TB hard drive into that plugs into my TV and can browse files and play video other that my laptop? or maybe some device i can buy that i can put my movies onto that is designed exactly for what i described i want to do?
'aight doug. I think i'll try that plugging into the router thing. If that doesn't work, the Roku an WDTV look awesome. but, so if i plug the harddrive into my router, how would i access the files from my TV and stream them? I have relatively new Netgear WNDR3800, along with all those devices i listed above.

Answer
There are a number of ways to do this. One is to use a Media Player (a hardware box, not the Windows Media Player software, although that can be made to work also with many video formats).
The Western Digital TV player already mentioned is one with USB port to accept an external flash drive or HDD. This has features like optical digital audio out, HDMI out, and a remote control:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A5588916&dgc=ST&cid=72662&lid=1838884&acd=123098073120560

Another very popular one is the Roku box - very highly rated with same features looks like this:

http://www.pcrichard.com/catalog/product.jsp?modelNo=3100R&utm_medium=cse&utm_source=GoogleBase&CID=Google_PLA&CAWELAID=1492206696&catargetid=1560497233&cagpspn=pla

There are others - just search [streaming media player] to find more (Netgear, Linksys, etc).
I stream movies all over the house using our home Wi-Fi network and our computers to play the files (either from system HDD or external) either with Tversity media streaming software (there is a limited function free version we use, and a more comprehensive paid version), and also using a free program called PMS - Playstation Media Server, using the DLNA capability of the PS3 as a media server to stream wirelessly. It's free to download and use and is very capable and functional. So the options are huge - takes a little learning to pick the best for you... Good luck!

I can't seem to find a whole lot of information on this particular model, despite actually owning one. That said, I did notice that most Samsung blu-ray players and home theater setups do in fact run them, albeit many will actually run 50Hz discs at 60Hz.

Answer
Blu ray disc are not 50HZ or 60HZ. The HZ is the Alternating current of the electricity. The US standard is 60 HZ. This is not the same as 24 fps on the blu ray disc movies. Hope this will help you out.

why do I get two different signals when using hdmi on home theatre and on blu ray?

If I use my samsung tv with 1080p and 120hz plugged into the home theatre system, it shows that its working at 1080p and 60hz, but If I play the blue ray player, it shows 1080p 120hz, why more herts for the blu ray with same hdi

Answer
There is NO 120 Hz signal.
Your TV always operates in 120 Hz mode regardless whether the input is 720p or 1080i.

Nothing to worry.

It doesn't make sense to buy a little box to stream apps if i could also buy a blu ray player and do the same thing. Are there more perks that come with a roku? Is there better quality with a roku? I wouldn't mind having a blu ray player looking at the whole package, but i mostly just want to use it for netflix.

Answer
Sony BDP-S590 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi (Black) s is a awesome Streamer/Bluray/DVD player. I haven't experienced any issues whatsoever playing back Bluray disks. Boot times are very good with the disks I tested. Everything played back perfectly with stunning picture quality. However, I really purchased this player for its streaming abilities. Sony players were dinged in the past for a poor Netflix experience. Sony have fixed this with a updated Netflix interface that supports 1080p and Dolby Digital+ streams.

Can picture quality differ between different blu ray players?

David

Could one blu ray player look much better than the other or are all blu ray players pretty much the same when it comes to playing blu rays? I know they differ in apps and such, but I just want great picture quality and wanted to know if some players might look bad.

Answer
Yes, every Blu-ray player will give you a different overall image due to their color decoders, video processors, de-interlacing capabilities (when needed), power supplies, etc. Even if you play the same Blu-ray movie in all of them, in theory they all suppose to reproduce a slightly different image (at least). This is considering different brands. But if you're worried about "bad quality" with Blu-ray movies, I doubt you would be disappointed. Let's not forget that Blu-ray movies are mastered in native HD, usually 1080p or sometimes 1080i to 720p. What this means is that your image will be crystal clear 100% of the time with all or most players. And ofcourse, resolution doesn't guarantee anyone the right color reproduction, temperature, shadow detail, etc, etc. It is up to the user to choose the best possible player and adjust all the settings, from the player to the display. Some good players to consider: SONY PS3, Most Panasonic models, and all OPPO players. Good luck.

What computer i can buy to play pc games?

andy

So I don't know much about processors and graphics card and what not, and I was just wondering what is a modern day computer I can buy to play games like skyrim and such...not necessarily on the maxed out settings but as long as the frame rate and graphics aren't horrible I'm good.
So can anybody give me a simple response on a computer I can buy. I'm willing to spend 1,000-1,500 on a computer. What are also some system specs that I should be looking for when buying a computer? I prefer to buy a pre-built computer rather than go build one myself since I have 0 experience with building computers.

Answer
Ok.. First of all, I am happy that at least you have an idea of at least two elements of a gaming computer (processor and graphics card). In fact, those are the two most important parts of a gaming machine. To run games like skyrim, you need a computer with a good graphics card as well as a solid processor along with a good cooling system, power supply, motherboard and very important too "sufficient memory".
Currently, the two best processors for gaming are the intel i5 and i7 processors. Where graphics card is concern; Navida and Radeon are the best for gaming machines. Also, for a gaming computer, 8 GB RAM is ideal, anything over that is a great bonus.

You have a very good budget for a gaming computer. And I just want you to know that, for that price range, you can get a solid gamer without having to build your own.

The Microtel Computer® AMTI9031 Liquid Cooling PC Gaming Computer is an extremely good gamer being sold for $1499. This computer has:
*Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) processor
*Nvidia Geforce 660 GTX TI 2GB GDDR5 Graphics card
*2TB Hard Drive 7200RPM
*16 GB 1600Mhz DDR3 Memory
*12x Blu-Ray Drive
*Windows 7 Home Premium Full 64 bit
*Logitech USB Keyboard for gaming
*Logitech USB Optical Mouse w/wheel
*Liquid cooling Technology
*Wi-Fi

Now, let me break down those specifications for you.

The intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) is currently the on top of other processors in terms of power- and that is what is required by every gamer. Have this processor in your gaming machine and you are on the top of the gaming pedestal.

Next is the graphics card which is extremely important since no matter how your processor is good as well as the other PC parts; if you don't have a good graphics card, then gaming modern gaming will just not be possible. This computer I am recommending to you has a Nvidia Geforce 660 GTX TI 2GB GDDR5 Graphics card is a very good graphics card that will enable you to play games like skyrim, Crysis 3, COD without lags. There is no need for you to think of settling for an average gaming PC with this budget that you have. This graphics card even allows you to play with up to three monitors.

Next is the Memory. As I told you before, most of the latest games requires 8 GB of RAM to run on High settings. This PC has 16 GB RAM! RAM helps with the speed of your computer, so the more RAM- the better.

This machine also has a 2000 GB hard drive which has a RPM of 7200. The RPM deals with revolutions per minute; how fast the hard drive spins. 7200 RPM is very fast and way above average RPM. 2000 Gigabyte is also a lot of space for your gamer, you can save hundreds of files on your system and still have lots of storage space remaining. Overall, a very fast and big hard drive.

When playing games, your computer should be kept cool for you to get best performance. Regular computers are kept cool with the use of small fans. This computer does not use air cooling technology- it instead uses the latest "LIQUID COOLING"technology. This technology works like the cooling system in a car where liquid is used as a coolant. This cooling system has been top rated and is very very efficient in keeping your system cool as you do intense gaming.

You gamer also has a number of other positives. It comes with a blu-ray player as well as wireless internet capabilities. Also in the package, is a gaming mouse and keyboard from logitech.

Overall, this computer is a big plus and definitely value for your money. Should you get it, you should be able to play most of todays latest games on high settings and the top top games on medium to high, plus in the future you can easily update some of the parts to facilitate future high end gamings.
You can purchase this PC at amazon here>http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004AH9W8A/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B004AH9W8A&linkCode=as2&tag=cheonlsto-20

Can I get digital input (1080i) with a component cable?

blu ray player ypbpr
 on MPEG4-Players - Sony RDR-HX720/725
blu ray player ypbpr image

Fred B

I have a Mitsubishi that was made before HDMI.

Answer
YES!
This is from an article I read.

For now, cableTV boxes and even Blu-ray players will also allow analogue output at up to 1080i resolution. The problem with this solution is that it is short-term and does not take into account the fact that users of Blu-ray players may find their analogue video outputs limited to 480p at some point down the road.

HDMI is not inherently better than component video (YPbPr), however many of the new video formats are only allowing the highest resolution to be output via HDMI since it contains DRM (digital rights management - copy protection) unavailable on analogue component outputs.

Most Blu-ray players, including the PS3 include the ability to output up to at least 1080i via component video. When done correctly, this should look almost identical to 1080p output via HDMI.

The simple solution is to go with component video until such a time that your entire video "food chain" is upgraded to HDMI. You'll likely be satisfied with the results and won't be forced into an upgrade until you are ready

How can I hook my PC up to TV?

Kristin

I'm looking for the cheapest, simplest option UNDER $40.

My TV has the following ports:
S-Video
Red, Green, Blue (Component video)
Yellow (Composite video)
Red and White (audio)

My PC has the following ports:
VGA
HDMI
USB
Headphone jack

How can I connect my PC to my TV using any combination of these jacks for UNDER $40? Is it possible for a PC to transmit video to a TV via USB or a headphone jack, into a converter that has either the RGB plugs or the red, yellow, and white plugs on the other end?

Answer
- I like how you told me the ports you have, but I like manufacturer numbers tho so I can read the manual to make sure what ports you have and what exactly what you can do.

Do you have a receiver?
- 1st hdmi cable to hdmi output on device to hdmi input on receiver for surround sound audio, then 2nd hdmi cable to hdmi output on receiver to hdmi input on tv for tv video.
- Receiver's menu -> manual setup -> hdmi setup -> hdmi audio setup -> send audio to amp (not passthrough to tv).
or
- vga cable to vga output on device to vga input on receiver, then a hdmi cable to hdmi output on receiver to hdmi input on tv for tv video.
- Receiver's menu -> manual setup -> hdmi setup -> hdmi video setup -> turn 1080 i/p scaling on and configure all the other settings.

Don't have a receiver?
- You will need a hdmi to component + R/W stereo audio converter.
- Example: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011410&p_id=8125&seq=1&format=2
- You will also need a hdmi cable, a component cable, and R/W stereo audio cables to go with this converter to hook up your devices.

Is the converter option to expensive? You can always wait until you upgrade your sd-tv to a hd-tv to go with your pc and just hook up the pc to the tv with a hdmi cable.

You might find this option. Be warned!
- Component to vga cable. (Does video only, no audio).
- This cable was designed to work with component output devices (not computer) to vga inputs on a projector (not a tv or computer monitor) that can accept the analog YPbPr color space from the vga input on the projector.
- Without knowing the manufacturer numbers on your output and input devices I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CABLE, I would read your devices manuals before recommending this cable.
- If you read your devices manuals, find out if your computer is capable to send a analog YPbPr color space out of a vga output or find out if your tv/computer monitor can accept a YPbPr color space from a vga input.

You seem worried about audio too, how is it possible that both your tv and pc don't have at least s/pdif optical or s/pdif coaxial for audio?
- For audio you can use this depending on your headphone jack size and different length then the one in the links (these are the premium version=high quality).
or
- http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021809&p_id=5606&seq=1&format=2

As for usb, your tv does not have a usb, so no need in mentioning this. (If you have have a ps3 or blu-ray player, you can use a usb cable and I think that would work, but you will need to find out because I am not sure).

I dont want the opinions of obsessed Sony fanboys either so if you fall under this category, dont bother answering.

Answer
I don't believe either will become a standard. A LOT of companies are developing players that will play both BluRay AND HD-DVD...

Both have their advantages and disadvantages, however a decent Blu-ray player is ~$1,000 where an HD-DVD Player can be bought for less than $200 now! Blu-Ray at the time can support a better picture, but only true enthusiests will spend that much money on a player!

98% of the market is people who just want to watch HD for a reasonable price, and most of those people will not even notice the difference in quality!

If I had to guess right now, I'd say HD-DVD will be the most common for now. If and when Blu-Ray comes down in price, it may become the standard however most companies are making their players compatible with both.

It's really too early in the game to tell, especially because no one knows what the standard is going to be and they're afraid to purchase something that they won't be able to use in a few months!!

This reminds me of when Mini-discs were released - it's a great technology! However they were very expensive and the majority of the market ended up buying MP3 players because of price. Unless they were a true enthusiest they weren't too concerned with sound quality, only price...

should i get an xbox 360 or just stick with my current consoles?

tyler d

i own a ps2, a gamecube, and a ds lite. should i get a 360 or just wait for the next xbox?

Answer
Yes, in my opinion you should either get a Xbox 360, or a Playstation 3. If you liked your PS2 a lot, than definitely get a PS3. It has stayed close to home, with many welcomed features such as Blue-Ray, and the new Six axis controller. Whatever you get, a Ps3, or 360, you will definitely be surprised at how much gaming has changed over the past 2-4 years. A PS2, as of right now is considered and older system, and a Gamecube is just considered out of date. Here is a comparison that might make the choice a bit easier, (don't let the $400 price tag of the PS3 baffle you. In April there will be a $100 price reduction, and also it has lots of built in features that you would have to pay close to $300 more. Like a Blue-Ray player would be about $300-500 if you bought it alone). GET A PS3!!! but a Xbox 360 is a respectable console, non the less...

For One, the PS3 will last the longest for the next gen consoles that are out now:

Xbox 360 was made in 2005, they've already made a different version of it (Elite) so soon they'll have the next 360, more likely the 720, probably in 2010-2012 that's not very long 1-3 years of play
Wii- was poorly designed in 2006. They'll have to make the Wii 2 sometime soon, probably 2010-2012 as well.
Playstation 3- was made in the same year as the Wii, 2006. Sony designed it though to last for 10 years! Meaning it will still be around and popular in 2016.

The PS3 amazing. It has better reliability, can be turned into a PC and download Windows XP or Vista, or for free download Linux. For everything that it has, it is much cheaper then the Xbox 360, consider the following.
With the PS3, you get:
-A Blue-Ray player, and one of the best ones out so far. It is also considered new technology. If you don't have Blue-Ray players to start out with when buying the PS3, it also has a DVD upconverter, meaning that you can play normal DVD's with better quality picture.
-The PS3 also features PSN( the (P)lay(S)tation (N)etwork). It's free to use, and download demo's such as Warhawk, and Home. Unlike Xbox Live, it doesn't cost $80 for the first year bundle, and $50 for each following year.
-The PS3 has exlusives like no other console, like Resistance 2, LittleBig Planet, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, Metal Gear Solid 4 and in the future: inFamous, Killzone 2, God of War 3, Uncharted 2, L.A. Noire, Heavy Rain and Massive Action Game (M.A.G.âin which over 256 players will be able to play on the same map at the same time)
-For the money, you get 80GB of space, and only 60GB on the Xbox 360, USB mini drives can also be used from the 2.0 USB ports in the front of the PS3. It also has an easily removable HDD.
-Built in, superior Wi-Fi
-Web browser, just like a PC's

On the Xbox 360's you get a 1 in 3 failure rate. Even though Microsoft knows of this problem, they don't even think about the red rings of death while shipping it out to unsuspecting customers

So hereâs a quick run-down of what you must buy with the PS3 and 360:

PS3:
Console(there will be a $100 decrease in April 2009) $300
Game $60
Controller $55
Total: $415

Really, if you bought all the things the PS3 offers SEPERATELY, you would be able to buy roughly 3 PS3's with that money (gaming console+computer+SUPERB Blu Ray player)

Xbox 360:
Console $300
Game $60
Controller $60
Xbox Live $80
Wi-Fi $100
Total: $660

As you can see, the PS3 is cheaper by far and plus, The multi-platform games are using about 25% of the PS3's graphical potential. So that means much better graphics in the future when they can get a grip on the PS3's power.

On the other hand, most multiplatform games are using about 98% of the 360âs potential. And they look about the same. At this rate in 1 year, the PS3 will have outshone the 360 graphic wise. Itâs just that the 8-core Cell Broadband Processor is very complex, and takes developers time to get used to. And they are getting the hang of things. The PS3 has a very good reliability rate: only 0.2% failure rate (note the decimal), while Xbox 360's have a 30% failure rate. So, for every 1000 of both consoles produced, 2 PS3's are defective, whilst about 330 Xbox 360's are defective. The numbers speak for themselves. Many game developers have OPENLY stated that in the near future, and right now, they will use the PS3 as a lead-developing platform, and then they will port the games to the 360.

So pretty much, the PS3 wins hands down. It's the best system people have seen yet! The PS3 will also progress in the future, like it's downgraded because it was so good that other people couldn't afford it. So anyways hope I helped!

Amelia

So i have all my music on my itunes library and i want to change the format of my music into mp3 format so i can play it on my sony blu-ray player. I have windows 7 on my computer if that helps.

Answer
if they are m4p format, then they are protected, and cannot be converted (as a "security" measure):
http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=6258&highlight=mp4+mp3

if they are m4a format, they CAN be converted, using this strategy:

of course, you can always just TRY it anyways. what have you got to lose?

I downloaded an update file for a Panasonic blue-ray player and transferred it to a cd-r as per the instructions. The blue-ray player says incompatible format. How can I burn the cd-r in iso 9660 format? Is there a freeware burner that will do this? I have windows XP.

Answer
Just use Windows XP's built-in CD writing feature. It works perfectly. I've used it several times on my BD35.

How can I share my laptop's (Windows 7) WiFi internet to my Ethernet Blu-ray player?

brian123

I have a Samsung Blu-ray which can be connected to the internet through an Ethernet cable. The problem is that my router is very far away from it and I wanted to know if there is a way to share my WiFi connection through my computer's ethernet jack. I have tried ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) but couldn't connect to the internet, only to Local Network.

Answer
You can configure Internet sharing on the laptop.

For XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314066

For Win 7 / Vista - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Using-ICS-Internet-Connection-Sharing

There are better solutions:

You can use wireless Ethernet adapters. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20ethernet%20adapter&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20ether%2Caps%2C606 Wireless Ethernet adapters pick up the wireless signal and have a Ethernet jack to connect to your device.

You can also use powerline network adapters You plug one in by the router and one in the room where you need access and connect them to the devices with standard Ethernet patch cables. http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

The network signals are transmitted over your existing electrical wiring which will not be affected by wireless interference.

Good Luck...

i have the Dark Knight on my computer...its not from the dvd but my friend took it from online and itz blu ray quality. he doesnt have a blu ray player on his computer but it runs fine. when i try to play it on my computer, its really slow and it looks like crap...what can i do to make my computer run this movie....

Answer
Several items that you need to check....

You need the right software to decode it right. (WinDVD9 Plus) or better. You need to have a good graphics card capable of HD along with a monitor that can do the same. You also need a good CPU to process the movie stream at its correct speed to make it look like it is not lagging.

Do I talk about the foundation and/or history of blu-rays? I have a blu-ray player and discs at home, should or can I bring them as well to present to the class? What do you think?

Answer
Maybe you can show the class a slide presentation. (I would leave the actual Blu-ray equipment at home, so it doesn't get stolen, broken or lost.) The following link shows a sample of the material to cover, and various formatting styles to make each page look different and interesting:

What does Microsoft plan to do about the Xbox 360's HD DVD player?

Driskoll

I figure all the PS3 forums must be loving the fact that HD DVD is, for the most part, a dying breed. I can hear it now, "XBOX COPIES PS3!!!1" I can't stand that... but does anyone have any information on whether or not Microsoft is going to put out a Blu-Ray player?

Xbox 360 Blu-Ray Add-on Expected

The format war is finally over, and Blu-ray has triumphed over the HD-DVD format. But what happens to all of those HD-DVD early adopters?

From the looks of Microsoft, one of the earliest adopters of HD-DVD, it's just time to move on. Rumors are already circulating about Microsoft is planning a Blu-ray add-on for its Xbox 360 console similar to the HD-DVD add-on that is already available.

UPDATE: Microsoft makes a statement in regards to HD DVD.

This rumor isn't new, but with recent headlines proclaiming the imminent demise of HD-DVD speculation has grown louder. As early as 2006 former Microsoft corporate Vice President Peter Moore commented that Microsoft would remain open to the idea of the Blu-ray format, saying "We don't know which will win -- HD-DVD or Blu-ray. But because we've gone with an external form of device, we can remain compatible with changes to the situation in the future."

Rumors say that Microsoft could have the Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive ready as early as this May. Just like the HD-DVD add-on though, the supposed Blu-ray drive would only be used for movies, meaning no Xbox 360 games would start appearing on Blu-ray discs. Keep in mind that these are only rumors at this point, but giving Microsoft's history, it is very likely to be true.

Is there a place out there that rents blu ray players?

blu ray player at costco
 on Samsung 65
blu ray player at costco image

sight_sent

look i don't know what it is but i just can't see any difference at all looking at blu ray.

'm in stores all the time so i walk by the T V showcase and see whatever they are playing and I just don't get it

I can notice the difference in say switching video card settings in a game or resolution difference on a monitor

I know there are different TV set ups I'm just torn over this.

Answer
I assume you want to rent so you can test whether there is an advantage to Blu-ray? You don't say where you are, but I'm sure there are stores that rent BD players.

That said, you need a minimum of an HDTV (720p or better) and preferably 37" or larger, AND to sit close enough to be able to see the difference between BD and DVD.

The only setup where Blu-ray is always going to be better is with a 1080p projector and big screen (or a 50" or larger 1080p HDTV).

While test have shown that the majority of consumers when shown two identical setups (40" 1080p HDTVs), one with a DVD and one with a BD of the same movie, can see a difference, a significant proportion either didn't see any difference or didn't think it was significant enough to justify the high cost of the player and premium price for the Blu-ray disks.

Personally, I fall in the latter category. I still buy mainly DVDs and only buy BD if the price is a bargain AND it's something where I really want the best image (and sound) available.

Finally, some stores (e.g. Best Buy, Costco, Future Shop) will allow you to return equipment for a full refund if it doesn't meet your expectations. You would have to buy the player to try it out ... but it's one way to get a chance to do testing.

Bottom line: BD is a great choice for the minority of consumers who have the necessary equipment can benefit (e.g. large screen HDTV, good HDMI equipped surround audio setup) AND are willing to pay the premium price (vs DVD). But most consumers should stick to DVD until prices come down and/or they need to buy a new player (In which case a BD player makes more sense than a new DVD player).

how much should i pay for a blue ray player?

richard

where can i get the best deal on a blue ray and how much should i spend on it. i don't need the "top of the line" but i don't wanna get one at k-mart. unless you guys have any good things to say about their electronics. i have a 2000 dollar 50" panasonic viera and i need a blue ray desperately.

Answer
Set a price and stick to it. I already have one, but if I were buying a Blu-ray player now I wouldn't spend more than $250. For you that amount may be more or less, depending on what you can afford and how bad you want a Blu-ray player.

If I were you I would buy the Panasonic DMP-BD35. It's cnet's #1 stand-alone Blu-ray player. Costco has it for $280-$50 coupon=$230 today through the 25th. To get the best player for under $250 is a pretty good deal--and it comes with an HDMI cable.

The Sony BDP-S350 is good, but it doesn't decode DTS-HD MA. This won't matter unless you have a surround sound system (which you should given the amount you've put into the TV) that doesn't decode HD audio formats.

TODD

Got a Panasonic blu-ray player and i'am taking it back. It doesn't have Pandora. I was wondering what blu-ray player's remote is best for streaming use. I know I saw a Vizio tv remote that had a slide out key board. Do they make blu-ray players. I just didn't see one at bestbuy. That is what I am looking for, something easier to type searches in. .

Answer
Vizio brand is only sold at bargain price retail store. They are not a good quality or reliable brand. Panasonic is one of the most reliable player in the market today. They always have a player being recommended from day one. Blu Ray disc player are just that, they are players and they do not have a keyboard. You can however connect online to stream movie online. Hope this will help you out.

how to register and log in to youtube on a sony blu ray player?

finkelstei

I can log onto youtube on my computer but can't do the same from mt sony blu ray player.

Answer
There is a difference between accessing YouTube with a PC and an account, and accessing the videos through an "app". The apps do not support accounts. You can search for videos, but you cannot access your playlists or accounts through the apps.

When they start shipping Televisions and Players with full-sized keyboards, then the apps will probably start to support letting you log in and stuff.

But an app is not a web page. They do not assume you have a keyboard or a mouse so the feature set is limited.
