philips blu-ray keeps freezing?

lalaland

I bought this phillips blu-ray player and it worked well the first couple of months but then it started freezing up, it would begin with the philips logo appearing with a green pixelated bar underneath it and then in the menu screen it would show reading disk for 3 seconds and then it would freeze up

Answer
i would take a qtip with a strong isotropy alcohol to the laser lens eye, then use the other end of the qtip to dry it up. ofcourse unplug the player first and be prepared to take it apart, don't don't any of the leads that connect the + and - of any large capacitors, and don't touch any of the ic chips. remember which way the magnet at the top of the cdplayer was before taking it off, it will just fall right off if u turn the player upside down. also don't mess with any of the loading mechinizims as they will just fall apart with little effort but the gears are usually kinda easy to figure out where they went as they have lil pegs where they fit into the centers. don't forget to eject the cd before doing all this, that will save u a lot of butt ache. don't zap urself! unplug, and please be kind, rewind.

keep youself grounded, touch the metal casing often, or run a wire from ur wrist to the case if u think u'll be touching the actual circuitry often

Samsung Blu ray keeps freezing!!?

Lillian

we will be watching a movie and out of nowhere the movie will start skipping or it will freeze and then we cant do anything but start it over again and then it does the same thing over again. So we have figured out that if we clean the player (with a disk that is made to clean it) it will work, but we have to clean it every time we watch a movie and it gets really annoying. what can we do to fix this problem so we can just watch a movie without worrying about this???

Answer
Go on samsung's site and see if there is a firmware fix to download. You can download it to you computer and then to a smart card and upload it to the blu ray. If it connects to the internet, just go into menu and find updates.

Blu-Ray Player VS Roku - Netflix?

CiaoBella

I currently have a blu-ray player that I got for Christmas, after calling the company I found out that it doesn't connect to Netflix. I'm not sure if it would be easier for me to buy a Roku box or a new Blu-ray player that has Netflix capabilities? WIth the blu-ray player I would just put my current one in my bedroom to replace my old dvd player. The issue is a new blu-ray is about $75 versus a Roku which is about $50. I'm trying to be a little budget conscious here too. Also, I do not have any gaming systems either.

Any thoughts???

Answer
I would get a separate box.

My BluRay player has about 8 apps. My Western Digital Live box has 25 and gets regular updates. My WD box also plays computer files from USB flash drives and can even stream from my PC wirelessly. The little box's are much better than the 'after thought' of Netflix in a BluRay player.

How does NETFLIX work on Blu Ray players?

Quential

some models such as the BD300 from LG or the BD-P1600 from Samsung have Netflix features?
Can we stream the Blu Ray directly from Netflix?

Answer
You're not streaming a Blu-ray. (Blu-ray isn't a format, it's a storage medium.) What you're doing is streaming a movie over the internet. The Blu-ray just serves as the media server.

I believe some of the movies are in HD quality, but none of them have surround sound. I don't have one of these players, but from what I understand the streaming quality is fine for documentaries and TV shows, but not so much with the action movies.

How do I bypass blu-ray region restrictions?

Marco

I bought the "Breaking Bad" collectors edition on amazon and initially it said "all regions on it." What the site failed to mention is that the season 1 and 5 DVDs are region free but the other ones are all region A. So I was wondering whether anyone knew of any way, preferably without downloading any new programs, to get passed the blu-ray region restriction?
I accidentally typed DVD above but I meant blu-ray there too. Also I should note that I have the trial version of PowerDVD 13 installed and I'm in Belgium (aka region B).

Answer
You can sometimes change the region on your PC's drive but you can only do this a few times before it will becomes permanent.

You might be able to find a hack to get around this limitation.

Otherwise you need a region-free blu-ray player. Yeah, Oppo is nice but at $500 it's a bit pricey. I bought a player from Orei for about $80 which works well enough. It doesn't have some of the features the Oppo has, but it also doesn't cost $500.

Pc vs Blu ray player stand alone?

HUA!

I already have a 40" Sony bravia Led TV, and i watch blu ray movies downloaded from internet (totally free yeahh!) from my PC which is a dual core and 8400GS HDMI out, so i was wondering if at this point it would be necesary to buy a Blu ray player, what profits i'll have to spend 250 - 300 USD on a blu ray driver.

Any suggestion? do i'm wrong?

btw: even when my TV is a 120 Hz motion flow, i cannot active that feature when i c movies from My Pc :(
well bbt91945, i currently have watched some 5.1 movies like Star wars on my plugged X-530 logitech, and 5.1 really work, so i don't understand why you say i cannot have sorround, and of course blu ray players have dropped but, since i'm guessing i don't need it at all, i'm tring to find a good reason to buy one.

I'm having in mind one Sony bdp-S570

Answer
Blu-ray players have dropped to $90 here and the player would be a 1080p source and give you much better results all around. Downloading HD movies takes up huge amounts of hard drive space and the quality is not nearly as good.

playstation 3 vs. xbox 360?

Vova

which one is better.
tell me the features, what else you can do except playing games? is there a way to install games on ps3 or xbox360 hard drive and play games from hard drive?
can i buy my friends ps3 or xbox 360 games and play online? or the online won't work?
which has better graphics? TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU KNOW!!

Answer
Overall the 2 are pretty equal. The PS3 has its blu-ray player but if you don't care about blu-ray movies, it doesn't do anything for the actual games themselves. Both can play DVD movies, but if you're like me, you already have 4 or 5 other devices that can play DVDs... The 360, meanwhile, has the better online service even though it does cost you $60/year to play online. It is well worth the money, however. Live is more stable, offers better integration with games, and has a much larger active subscriber base than PSN for the PS3. PS3 and 360 owners cannot play against each other online. They use totally separate networks and separate servers.

Graphics-wise, they're essentially equal. Even in side-by-side comparisons of the same game you'd be hard pressed to discern any real difference between them. The exclusives look incredible on both but that's to be expected.

Both offer media-center functionality allowing them to stream videos, pictures and music from your PC. Both offer Netflix connectivity if you have an existing Netflix account. Both offer connectivity with Twitter, Facebook, and Hulu Plus. The PS3 has a slight edge here because the 360 requires the paid online subscription to access the Netflix feature - don't ask me why.

Both can install games to the hard drive...but both still require you to have the game disc in the console to play the game. Some PS3 games require they be installed to the hard drive, while others have this as an option to speed up loadtimes. Most PS3 games don't have this option at all. All 360 games can be copied to the hard drive but you don't want to always do this. Halo3, for instance, actually plays WORSE from the hard drive, so don't bother. Again, like the PS3, you still need to have the game disc in your 360's drive to start the game up. After that, the game plays from the hard drive.

Take a look at the exclusives on each console, and the one with the longer list of exclusives you want to play is probably the console you should buy. After all, you are buying a GAME console, so GAMEs should be the primary reason for choosing a GAME console.

PLS dont be a fuking fanboy
please give me ups and down of both console
and i am also going to be getting medal of honor
can you alsoo give me reviews of the three games.

Answer
PS3 :
Pros: , FREE Wi-Fi, FREE online gaming, FREE internet browser, contains a built in Blu-Ray player, FREE USB to charge your controller. Most PS1 games will work.
Cons: A little bit more expensive than Xbox, Not all PS3 are backwards compatible, meaning they can't play PS2 games. Sometimes FREEZES or a problem occurs Most online games get hacked such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

Xbox 360 :
Pros : Slight improvement in graphics, Cheaper, Advanced security that makes it difficult to hack.
Cons: Pay for online play, may receive the Red Ring Of Death, causing Damage to your Xbox.

If your going to purchase a video game system, then get what your friends have so you can play with them.

On Xbox, you will less likely encounter hackers.

ON PS3, you will encounter some hackers.

Issues with Watching an iso File on my PC (3D Blu Ray Movie)?

MasterDive

So I am trying to watch this iso file using dameon tools on my PC. I do the usual...mount the image, then play with VLC player...but it gives me an error: 'VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///E:\'. Check the log for details.'

It is mounted, so does anyone know what the issue might be? Thanks!

Answer
Have you been able to watch Blu Ray movies with this setup before?

Is your VLC up to date? (VLC 1.2 or better is needed to watch BluRays)

Try opening the file with Media Player. If it works then you may have to reinstall VLC.

If MediaPlayer will not play it either, chances are it is an encrypted BluRay.
Check this thread out if that is the case.

Can I play Blu-Ray files on my computer?

Tyler

A friend sent me a blu-ray file to look at and I don't know if I can play it on my computer or not. I am using VLC media player (good for Blu-Ray) and I have a Gforce radeon 8400M GS graphics card.

Could i play it? Would it be noticeably better than a dvd?

Answer
You aren't playing Blu Ray format, blu ray is just the disc, you have no disc, it's not blu ray. what you have is HD files, to play them, i would reccomend DivX but i haven't tried VLC so i'm not sure. but if you want to know if you can run it, go to you tube, look for a video with a 1080p option and use it, if it runs smoothly, you can probably run it, or you could just try playing the files. it would look a lot nicer than dvd BUT it depends on your monitor, as long as it goes above 480p(which it probably does). Also, you will be able to play it if it is not an ISO file, if it is an ISO file, you will need to burn it and watch it with a blu ray disc or you could mount the ISO on a virtual drive and play it like that(go to youtube for info about that) if it isn't an ISO, you will probably be able to run it

is there any way to get amazon prime on a blu ray player?

i have a phillips blu ray player that already has a netflix app and a divix app it also says i can load things off of a flash drive is there some where i can download the app onto a flash drive and put it in my blu ray player?

Answer
Not directly.

You need either a firmware update from the manufacturer, or they have a dynamic app structure where apps are loaded over the web as needed, or from an app store like structure.

The firmware update and/or apps likely come over the web.

Free blu ray player software?

Kaylee

Does anyone know of blu ray player software that I can download free? I have windows 8 if that matters any help is appreciated!

Answer
I'd hoped to find it at Nero's trial section, but it doesn't seem to be included.

It's not necessarily a bad thing. The Blu-ray software that came with Nero 11 caused my processor to hit 100% and stay there, but Power DVD 9 usually uses less than 33% of the processor power.

Power DVD has been nagging me to upgrade, and I may have to eventually if I want to watch newer Blu-ray discs on the computer. It feels as though I'm being locked into a proprietary format, though.

Why buy a blu ray player, if your laptop already has one?

j 5

I just got a Sony 3D blu ray player to go with my Sony Bravia HDTV. However, I also need a laptop, (because my hp desktop's mother board just fried). While I was researching new laptops, i was annoyed to find that they pretty much all come standard with blu ray players!

Other than the fact that my blu ray player is 3D, what is the point of me to keep it, if i am about to buy a laptop w/ a blu ray player? Are there any differences in the quality of picture? Or copyright laws etc....?

Answer
Like first answerer said, a blu-ray player typically is just more convenient than one built in your computer. I have a PS3 I just bought even after I had put a blu-ray drive in my desktop. Both hooked up to my TV. Both work wonderfully.....except for one catch. Computer requires extra software just to decode it. Usually manufacturers will provide it, but I had to get Cyberlink PowerDVD (one of the ONLY Blu-ray playing softwares out there) just to watch a Blu-ray. You can't use Windows Media Player, can't use MPC-HC, can't use most of the choices out there. Only what you pay for. Anyways, personally, stick with the player. It's not worth the hassle to deal with cables, software, and setting tweaks just to get the same simple quality the player already delivers.

Will my Laptop work good as a Blu-Ray Player?

Austyn C

Im wondering if I hook my laptop to the TV im about to get if it will play blu-ray movies as good as a Blu-Ray Player will.
And can my Graphics card play blu-rays at 120HZ in 1080P?
I will be using an HDMI 1.3 Cable to connect them togather.

My laptop is the HP dv7
Intel i5-460M 2.53GHz (2.8GHz TurboBoost)
ATI Radeon HD 5470 (512MBs Dedicated video RAM, 3,226MBs Total avalable Video RAM)
6GB DDR3
Built in Blu-Ray player and HDMI Port

TV specs
Vizio, 47" LED Edge let LCD HDTV
1080P
120Hz
First of all nobody that has answered this question know what there talking about!
All I want to know is if it will work as good as a Blu-Ray Player or not! If it will not than I will get a better graphics card! Blu-Rays players do not work the best, I can get a graphics card that will allow 600+ Frames per second and a resolution twice that of a Blu-Ray Player!
Don't Comment unless you have a good answer and Facts to back it up!

Answer
it won't work you need a blu-ray player to play blu-rays.. a blu-ray player will, however, play DVDs

My Blu Ray player won't play newer discs?

Zach Canno

My Sony Blu Ray player is the light of my life in dark times and I love it. Unfortunately we are having some issues as of late. The following is a detailed account of what is occurring and a plea for help from anybody:

Two of the newest movies I have purchased ("Les Misérables" and "Silver Linings Playbook") have had trouble playing. I will insert the discs into the device and after a lengthy loading process (never leaving the home screen) it says "Cannot operate this disc.". With Les Mis, I have had some success with turning the device on and off over and over again until it works, but Silver Linings is not so lucky. Another weird thing is the fact that another newly purchased movie, Django Unchained, works perfectly, as do all of my other films.

I'm in a bad place right now. If this keeps up, I will be forced to watch the DVD versions of these films, a line I do not wish to cross. If someone can help me with this situation, I would much appreciate it. And if the solution provides a safeguard against this type of behavior in the future then that would be just tops. I can't wait to read the two or fewer answers this question will recieve.

Answer
Well first of all a lot of Blu-Ray players are connected to the Internet (or are designed to be so) and one of the things that needs to be done every so often is to check for firmware updates (sometimes called simply "system" or "software" updates).

It may be that the newer Blu-Ray disks are coded with something that the newer firmwares are designed to handle.

Failing that, depending on the age, say one of the first few generations of players, it may just be getting a little long in the tooth and will never be able to play the newer disks. The only option at that point is to replace the unit with a newer one.

4/5 stars: A Good Blu-Ray Player, March 22, 2009
By Coy Clement "DVR USER" (NC, USA)
"I differ with the first reviewer and am very satisfied with the player. It does a beautiful job of playing Blu-Ray disks and the image is immaculate as is the audio (the primary reason for buying any player). Netflix stream is great (it also streams in HD where the content is available - much nicer than the image on a PC), Pandora internet radio is a bonus.
I had no trouble connecting to my network. It was very easy and by putting my media into a shared (public) folder there was no complicated set up. I agree that this aspect of the player is a work in progress - codec support seems spotty - some played, some did not. Samsung has always done a great job of supporting their products (I've owned printers, TV's, etc.), so I expect further improvements.
My conclusion is that if what you want is a great Blu-Ray player with good networking and excellent audio then this IS the player. If you primarily want streaming of computer files to your TV, then a PC attached to the TV is a better solution (I have one of those too)."

5/5 stars: Excellent stand-alone Blu-ray Player, March 28, 2009
By Lovin Balmer "quasimd" (Baltimore, MD United States)
"I have owned this for several days and overall it has been an excellent experience. The player sets up quickly and easily detects my wifi network and also worked well with a cat-6 cable. My connection is 3-4 Mbps and this is rated "very good" for netflix streaming videos which look DVD quality. On-screen menus are very clear and easy to follow. The player itself works very well with only a few seconds delay. I have it hooked to my yamaha 663 receiver via HDMI; no problems. Given the complaints people gave about Blu-ray players, this player was a pleasant surprise. I'm glad I made the move to Blu-Ray and the netflix/pandora additions make this a no-brainer. Not sure if it was worth the extra $$ over the BD-P1600 from Samsung, but would be if you don't have a router near your player and need the wifi link to the internet. You can add wifi to the 1600 but I haven't seen the dongle available yet."

5/5 stars: Great player and love the Netflix capability, March 31, 2009
By Toshiba Sucks (Falls Church, VA USA)
"I bought this player a week ago and have been very happy with it. Setup was very easy including logging onto my Wi-Fi network. The Netflix capability is great. I would definitely recommend this player to anyone."

Can you use the Logitech Z906 speakers with a regular blu ray player?

Trees

Is it possible to watch blu rays on a regular blu ray player while using these speakers, or would I need a blu ray drive in my pc since these are computer speakers? Also, which is better, a regular blu ray player or a blu ray drive? I want to use these speakers to watch movies from my computer which is connected to my monitor and tv, but I also want to watch blu rays and i am not sure if I should get a regular blu ray player or a blu ray drive to use with these speakers.

Answer
Yes, you can

You can choose using optic cable, coaxial cable or 6 channel direct input. Depending on what you have on your pc and blueray player.

Optic is the standart connection .

Blueray player or drive? choose one that is cheaper.

Surround Sound on Blu Ray Player Not Working?

morningtid

We recently bought a brand new Sony blu ray player as well as Sony Home Theatre System (model ht-ss360) and are having difficulty getting the surround sound to work with the player. We got the TV to pick up the surround sound, by adding the two component audio cables, but the blu ray player is hooked up to the TV via the first HDMI port and the HTS is also hooked to the TV in our second HDMI port. The player IS NOT hooked up through the HTS (which I tried and it produced a big fat nothing.)

We do not have a digital optical cord. Does this make a difference?

Can anyone please shed some insight on what we could possibly doing wrong?

Answer
Connect optical cable from Blu-ray player to Home Theater System for surround sound.

outdated surround sound and blu ray player?

F

So my mom and I just bought a simple LG BP135 to replace our 10 year old DVD player. With our DVD player we had bought a surround sound system, also JVC. being 10 years old, it has no spot for HDMI. I don't see an optical output spot either and we also have a new HDTV. Is there anyway we can get surround sound when we're watching movies or tv? Or do we have to upgrade? Would rather not have to buy a new system because money is tight.

Answer
No, if you want the full hidef quality of HDMI video feeds, then you DO need a new or at least new-to-you surround sound system that has HDMI inputs and outputs.

There are great deals on receivers and speakers on Newegg.com right now, so you could get a Polk 6750 speaker system for $200, and a Pioneer 522K audio/video receiver for $150. That would give you MUCH better sound than the JVC set (JVC is not known for good speakers, for example), and would have all of the modern connectivity that you could want.

Blu Ray player with headphone port?

Timothy

Can anyone recommend a good BluRay player with a headphone port? Reason being, my speakers can only connect to headphone jacks and the the ones on my tv don't work properly (they cause a lot of popping noise and static) and the speakers on the little Vizio tv are junk. I have really nice speakers and I want to use them and the only way I can do that is if the player has a headphone port. I can't find one, because most sites don't let you filter searches by audio ports :P

Something off amazon or newegg or walmart would be preferable.

Thanks! 5 stars to best answer!

Answer
Sorry that is not a feature that will be on bluray players. Analog audio ports are now phased out of all current bluray players. If you can find a sony or Panasonic bluray from last year which has the red and white RCA outputs you can get adaptors so you can connect them to your computer speakers.

My parents got a new computer and it came with a blu-ray player. They want to be able to watch blu-ray movies on their computer, but I can't seen to find any software that will allow them to do that. I know the blu-ray drive works, because I can put a blu-ray disk in and browse through the folders. But I can't play blu-ray movies. I tried VLC, Quicktime, WMP but none of those worked. Are there any free blu-ray players for Windows 7?

Answer
Try the KMPlayer which is also free. You can get it from the filehippo.com website.

Should I get a blu-ray player now or wait ?

Jaime

and if I buy a blu-ray player, do I need to get an HD television?

Answer
Yes...the Blu-Ray players will continue to drop in price. Not to much lower over the next year but it has dramatically come down from two years ago when I bought the first one for $999. Now you can get them from $250-$350 range.

Yes...you really need an HD TV if your going to watch HD movies. I mean if you want to see it in 1080p resolution which will blow you away. Otherwise it will look like regular TV and not worth buying. Really the HD TV should come in handy more than the Blu-Ray player now with Dish TV, DirecTV, ATT U-verse, FIOS and cable TV offering 30-100 HD stations to watch.

The Blu-Ray player is great for home viewing of HD movies and even up-scaling the old DVDs to a better quality than you are used too.

Good luck

Regarding BD-PS350 Blu Ray player?

I would like to know, how to alter the screen size whilst watching a 'BD-PS350' Sony Blu Ray player.

Answer
new Sony Blu-Ray Player model number BDPS350 plays Blu-Ray discs in full 1080p. When played on a premium quality 1080p LCD or Plasma flat panel television such as a Sony XBR, a Panasonic, or a Samsung, the picture almost appears three-dimensional. and if you are thinking of alter the display image, then you'll need to adjust either your TV or the Blu-ray video display settings.
