Internet connection to LG smart Tv through blu-ray player?

Jacob

Hi, Weâve recently purchased an LG 3D smart Tv which can stream internet on its installed browser. Also bought along with it was a 3D Blu-ray player which has wireless capabilities. We were sold a HDMI-ethernet cable for the connection between the blu-ray and Tv. but we canât seem to get the internet connection to reach the TV through the Blu-ray player. the blu-rayâs connection to the internet is fine and we can browse youtube videos on the player, but the connection doesnât go any further. When searching for a connection for the Tv it cannot find anything. :/

Can someone PLEASE help?? otherwise spending the extra grand was pointless. :/
hmm thank you minnie. but we were sold the blu-ray because it should act as a wireless adapter for the Tv.

Answer
I've never head of anyone trying to connect the internet to the DVD then out of the DVD to the set. How is the DVD passing the internet through to the TV? I suspect it's not. The DVD has apps that are internet capable and so does the set. Each needs it's own independent connection to the internet either ethernet or wireless.

Can you connect a blu ray player to the internet through a usb connection?

I have a blu ray player that only has a wifi connection. There is no ethernet port but it does have a usb port. I know a wired connection is far superior than a wireless connection. So is there a way to connect to the internet with some sort of usb wire that connects to the modem?

Answer
sorry, no. See on this device it would seem that the USB is there only to use as a storage device (if you are watching movies you have saved onto your computer you watch them through a thumb drive on the player) Yes a wired connection CAN be faster....if it's over the proper TYPE! See wifi can allow for pretty fast speeds, but the USB is generally limited. USB has different types, each one faster than the last, but still fairly slow here's an idea of transfer rates! USB2.0=480mb/s USB3.0=5000mb/s ethernet= (10 base-t)10mb/s (100 base-t) 100mb/s (1000 base-x) 1000mb/s thunderbolt (only for MAC)=10gb/s (this is the fastest transfer rate you can find without specialized equipment) so that's for different types of wired connections WiFi CAN be faster, but this is dependent on how well the devices are working. Now as far as ACTUALLY CONNECTING to the internet, only with a dongle that you purchase, which ONLY allows wifi connection (pointless since you're already connected). USB isn't really made for internet but rather for file transfers. The point is, that NO you can't connect a USB port to your router for the uses that you want it for!
