Answer
Well

Vaio s
Pluses:thinner than mac pro, ivy bridge core i5 standard can go up to quad core i7 ivy bridge with intel hd 4000 integrated gpu, standard 1080p IPS screen on 15.5 inch model,has USB3.0 also 2 USB 2.0's, blu ray player/burner available so you can take advantage of the 1080p screen, available sheet battery so you can go from 5-6 hours to 10-12 hours of battery life, very light for a 15.5 inch screen laptop, built in webcam powered by exmor technology, runs windows 7 and allows you to get ultimate for only $150 (ultimate alone is about $300) available nvidia graphics with 2gb of gddr5 ram so you can play pc games at decent framerates and resolutions also supports a max of 12gb rametc.
Minuses:can get expensive a lot of the good stuff must be added increasing the cost people say sony's support can be bad (I haven't had any issues so I haven't had to call them) windows 7 has a higher virus infection rate etc

Macbook pro
Pluses:has good resale value even after a few years, long battery life (around 8-9 hours) built for video editing, has available 1200p screen IPS (I prefer 1080p 16:9 screen though) mac osx has fewer viruses than windows 7 people say apple has good support (again I have not had to contact them because I haven't had any issues) can run windows 7, good keyboard/tackpad, built in webcam (not sure what type of sensor though) etc.
Minuses:you have to pay full retail price for windows 7 to run it, no USB3.0 you just get 2.0 (not a big deal but usb3.0 is FAST) no blu ray support (WTF again to some it might be a deal breaker to some but a lot of people enjoy dvds but I really do love blu ray) it can get expensive, mac osx has a SMALL game library compared to windows, apple hasn't updated their macs to any ivybridge cpus so your stuck with sandybridge (not a big deal but ivy bridge is slightly faster especially for games, video editing, and photoshop) etc.

Bottom line the vaio s is better because of the ivy bridge cpu I have noticed it ran photoshop, video editing, and games decently the mac can run them all decently but the vaio is faster so if you want an all purpose laptop get the vaio you can't go wrong the mac is really for people who want to spend big bucks for an apple device

Specs vaio s
Cpu=ivybridge i5/i7 quad core
Gpu=intel hd graphics 4000/nvidia gpu with 1gb vram or nvidia gpu with 2gb vram

Battery= 4400 mah (lasts 5-6 hours) allows for sheet battery 4400 mah doubles battery life

Specs macbook pro
Cpu=sandybridge i5/i7 quad core

Optical drive=CD/DVD burner no blu ray support

can you play a blu-ray disk on a normal dvd player?

Q. can you play them on a DVD player or laptop?

my laptop is Mac OSX leopard..

Answer
Quest ANZ has the best answer. The very existence of Bluray players should be a dead give away to the fact that regular DVD players do not play them. This question does get asked a lot though, what part of "Bluray Player" do people not understand? As for Mac, no they don't. If a PC or Mac or what ever is going to play them it will need a Bluray drive and it will say "Bluray" on it.
