I am in the process of building my own computer and would like it to have the ability to play Blu Ray discs, what do I need to buy for this to happen? What are good brands/prices for these items?

You need a compatible blu-ray disk drive installed on the computer that can read blu-ray discs, it may be able to have/read dvd's and cd's as well.
- After disc loads up, it still needs a media player to play on.
You need a media player that can blu-ray disks and files and more.
- Best free three media players that I recommend are k-lite codec pack for media player classic and/or vlc player and/or kmplayer (don't download other korean crap tho).
- One of the best paid media players that I have heard of is powerdvd from cyberlink.

Blu-rays also have system requirements, it may vary depending on what media player your using. (Takes a lot of cpu/processing power).

why is blu ray player not playing disc?
Hi, I have a Toshiba Blu Ray, and I've got a disc in it but it won't play it. Instead, there is just 'bd' on the little digital screen on the player. All the other discs in the box set have played fine, and the player recognises the disc, but after it loads and we wait, we just get blue Toshiba screen. Any ideas? Thanks.

Does your computer have a disc drive that writes DVDs? Download a free bluray ripper and convert that bluray into an MP4 file. Then burn the MP4 file onto a blank DVD. Now you can play that DVD in any bluray player and it will play back like a bluray. It sounds strange but it works. I do it all the time.
Also, if your bluray player is not accepting blurays, try cleaning the bluray. The proper way to clean media discs is to clean from the center outward. Never clean them in a circular motion. Use a damp cloth if you have to, just make sure the disc is completely dry.
