Q. I am planning to continue using XP SP3 until April 2014 which is the year Microsoft will stop providing new security updates. Until then, will developers keep supporting XP for their new software? I am talking about software like Blu-ray player, 3rd party web browser, office applications, disk utilities, anti virus, other essentials like DVD burning, pdf reader, video editor and engineering software (Matlab, Mathematica and the like).

Answer
That depends on the particular developer. However, expect XP support to slowly get dropped by more and more developers as time passes, much in the way that Windows 98 support is almost completely non-existent these days.

The reason for this is that supporting XP (particularly with driver software) requires additional effort and resources on the part of the devleoper to program compatibility in. However so long as XP remains popular, then many developers will try to support it as best as they can.

I have a new Blu Ray player and i am having some very frustrating problems with it.?

Almost every movie I play, the blu ray stops the movie and the player just keeps opening and closing, as if someone is repeatedly pushing the button. I just want to know whats wrong and how can i fix it?

Answer
It may need a firm wear update but why take a chance if its still under warranty take it back and exchange it for a new one, then if the new one also does that try a firm wear update, usually with the firm wear update though you just get a message on the screen that says it needs one...
