Why buy a blu ray player, if your laptop already has one?

j 5

I just got a Sony 3D blu ray player to go with my Sony Bravia HDTV. However, I also need a laptop, (because my hp desktop's mother board just fried). While I was researching new laptops, i was annoyed to find that they pretty much all come standard with blu ray players!

Other than the fact that my blu ray player is 3D, what is the point of me to keep it, if i am about to buy a laptop w/ a blu ray player? Are there any differences in the quality of picture? Or copyright laws etc....?

Answer
Like first answerer said, a blu-ray player typically is just more convenient than one built in your computer. I have a PS3 I just bought even after I had put a blu-ray drive in my desktop. Both hooked up to my TV. Both work wonderfully.....except for one catch. Computer requires extra software just to decode it. Usually manufacturers will provide it, but I had to get Cyberlink PowerDVD (one of the ONLY Blu-ray playing softwares out there) just to watch a Blu-ray. You can't use Windows Media Player, can't use MPC-HC, can't use most of the choices out there. Only what you pay for. Anyways, personally, stick with the player. It's not worth the hassle to deal with cables, software, and setting tweaks just to get the same simple quality the player already delivers.

Will my Laptop work good as a Blu-Ray Player?

Im wondering if I hook my laptop to the TV im about to get if it will play blu-ray movies as good as a Blu-Ray Player will.
And can my Graphics card play blu-rays at 120HZ in 1080P?
I will be using an HDMI 1.3 Cable to connect them togather.

My laptop is the HP dv7
Intel i5-460M 2.53GHz (2.8GHz TurboBoost)
ATI Radeon HD 5470 (512MBs Dedicated video RAM, 3,226MBs Total avalable Video RAM)
6GB DDR3
Built in Blu-Ray player and HDMI Port

TV specs
Vizio, 47" LED Edge let LCD HDTV
1080P
120Hz
First of all nobody that has answered this question know what there talking about!
All I want to know is if it will work as good as a Blu-Ray Player or not! If it will not than I will get a better graphics card! Blu-Rays players do not work the best, I can get a graphics card that will allow 600+ Frames per second and a resolution twice that of a Blu-Ray Player!
Don't Comment unless you have a good answer and Facts to back it up!

Answer
it won't work you need a blu-ray player to play blu-rays.. a blu-ray player will, however, play DVDs
