Surround Sound on Blu Ray Player Not Working?

morningtid

We recently bought a brand new Sony blu ray player as well as Sony Home Theatre System (model ht-ss360) and are having difficulty getting the surround sound to work with the player. We got the TV to pick up the surround sound, by adding the two component audio cables, but the blu ray player is hooked up to the TV via the first HDMI port and the HTS is also hooked to the TV in our second HDMI port. The player IS NOT hooked up through the HTS (which I tried and it produced a big fat nothing.)

We do not have a digital optical cord. Does this make a difference?

Can anyone please shed some insight on what we could possibly doing wrong?

Answer
Connect optical cable from Blu-ray player to Home Theater System for surround sound.

Does HD-DVD only work on Blu-Ray DVD players?

Q.

Answer
