what type of dvd player should i get for my new tv?

Ryan

ok so i just bought a 26" vizio lcd hdtv it says it has a display compatibility of hdtv (720P) but has signal compatibility of 480i (SDTV) 480P (EDTV) 720P (HDTV) and 1080i (HDTV) so what kind do you guys recomend i get should i get a blu-ray player or something like a hd dvd upconverter and what kind

Answer
i think that blu ray would be overkill because of their cost, and it has such a high resolution (1080...uh, p, i think) compared to your visio. your t.v. is 720p compatible and should be perfectly compatible with a blu ray player, given your t.v. has an hdmi socket on the rear... but you will only be viewing a 720p picture versus the 1080 resolution put out by the blu-ray. however, lifespan of lcd t.v.'s is an issue too, and given the newbie reputation of visio as a company, is a new t.v. (possibly sporting a higher resolution) in your future? if so the blu ray may be the way to go if you ever plan on upgrading. p.s. i would stay away from anything hd dvd since it has somewhat been deemed a dead technology and some stores have even pulled hd dvds and players from their shelves.

Is the 80GB PS3 one of the latest models, has it been out long, and does it have Blue Ray problems?

Thomas P.

Is the Blue Ray player in all the PS3 models the same? I've heard the biggest problem with the PS3 is Blue Ray failure? How often does this happen? I've heard that the PS3 Blue Ray hardware has a life span of a little over a year. Is this true? Does one model of the PS3 last longer than another. I'd like to buy an 80GB, how durable is this model? Has Sony addressed it's complaints regarding the Blue Ray player?

Answer
the blu ray player is the main problem with the ps3, but it is rare at that.

no it is not true that they only last a year. ive had mine for much longer than that and it works flawlessly.

about 2 in 1000 systems will experience this problem (0.2% defective rate)

all models are built exactly the same except for the HDD size (obvoiusly). the 80GB is very durable, just like all the other systems. you cant go wrong.

the ps3 has a lifespan of 10 years, so expect to see it around for another 4-5 years easily.
