questions about blu ray players?

Yannd

I am looking to get myself a blu ray player and also one for my mom and one for my dad for christmas. I am in college so I'm pretty tight on money. What are the best cheap blu ray players and the places to shop to get the best cheap ones? also when looking online I'm seeing a lot of refurbished blu ray players for cheap, any comments on there? do people ever experience problems with them? best refurbished brands? just need some general information on blu rays, all advice and answers appreciated, thanks!

Answer
I myself don't feel comfortable buying refurbished units although probably most of the returned units are cosmetic issues, but that is not to say they couldn't have had mechanical or electrical issues, but that's just me.

The best buy and quality blu ray player is still the Sony PS3, which I own and works great. The only two things is it does not come with a IR remote you have to use the joystick it comes with unless you buy the optional remote. You must also set all the video and audio settings to get the best picture, not a big deal but you do need to get into the menus.

Remember you must also have a high definition television to see the benefits of a blu ray so keep that in mind.

Can I watch Blu Ray on 720p?

Is it worth it to buy a blu ray for a 720p plasma tv?

Answer
Blu-Ray players and discs add up to a lot of money, but the improvement from 480i (Standard TV) to 720p is amazing.

If you have a 1080p/i TV, Blu Ray is a must have. 720p is also pretty high definition. It just depends on if you are willing to pay for the HD.

P.S. PS3s do a fantastic job making standard DVDs look good on bigger screens. I have one my self and don't use the Xbox to play regular DVDs anymore. You also have the option of BluRay and games with the PS3 ;)
