Hey guys ... I am now faced with the decision of getting a Sony Blu-ray Player with Wi-Fi and BD-Live for $350 or getting a 40 GB Apple TV with XBMC/Boxee for $230. I know I'll have to spend $120 more for the Sony, but it has a Blu-ray player but will I be able to watch TV shows with the BD-Live program? I'm also considering getting a new TIVO that streams content to your TV from the internet.(please keep in mind that I don't have cable or satelite TV) This is very confusing and I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me an honest answer.

Thanks,

Brian

Which media box should I get?

I am building my first home theater. there are a lot of media boxes/htpc's available these days. The big ones that I am considering purchasing would be the Roku 3, the WD Live HD Media, the G-Box Midnight MX2 (android box), or the Raspberry Pi with OpenElec XBMC loaded on it. I am not looking much for preloaded shows, and just want 1080p with 7.1 for my downloaded movies that I can either hook up directly with my external, or stream over my network. I really like the G-Box since it is a android device that I can use for other things, but people say that the streaming on it can be laggy. The Raspberry Pi looks like it could be fun to play with, but it does not look like it will play well with a3.0 external. The Roku 3 features 7.1 audio, but it does not look like it is very good for streaming my downloaded files. Any help or suggestions would be great.

I own the WD TV Live Media Player. I also do a bit of both: stream over the home network and directly over USB. Even streaming Blu-ray remux's (exactly reproduced Blu-ray file ~30-40 gb), I find no lag.

I prefer this media player because it supports virtually all different types of video and audio formats, including DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD. Also, it plays these files with no lag.

One thing of note is that its USB port is 2.0, which doesn't matter to me because it can still stream up to 480 Mbps. The maximum rate for exact Blu-ray copies is only 48 Mbps.
