PS3 - Blu-Ray question.

erez12

Lets assume I have a blu-ray DVD burner and a couple of blank blu-ray CDs. is it possible by any means to actually burn downloaded content and play it via PS3? im seriously thinking about purchasing a burner. although if there's no method of doing it I'll pass...

Answer
Well, the Blu-Ray player in the PS3 is set to read PS3 Blu-Ray Games & Blu-Ray Movies which are coded as an official disk. If you were to download let's say a game & burn the image to a spare Blu-Ray DVD, I don't think it would have the same coding that tells the PS3 it's an official disk so it might not play.

This is really just an assumption from researching into how XBox 360's can be chipped or "soft modded" (DVD Drive firmware replaced to read all DVD's)

So.. If there was such a chip or soft mod option for the PS3 I can't see why it wouldn't work. Unless ofcourse the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 doesn't use this coding. Ack, it's all so complicated, lol!

Blu-ray questions?

What is Blu-ray DVD, can it be watched on regular DVD players?

Answer
Blu-Ray is one of the two (the other being HD-DVD) formats for storing high definition video and data content. Blu-Ray Discs (BD) can store more data than HD-DVDs

BDs are only playable in Blu-Ray Disc players or HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Combo players because the laser used to read BDs is not built-in to regular DVD players (red lasers).
