can you play a blu-ray disk on a normal dvd player?

Q. can you play them on a DVD player or laptop?

Quest ANZ has the best answer. The very existence of Bluray players should be a dead give away to the fact that regular DVD players do not play them. This question does get asked a lot though, what part of "Bluray Player" do people not understand? As for Mac, no they don't. If a PC or Mac or what ever is going to play them it will need a Bluray drive and it will say "Bluray" on it.

Hey guys I am very confused on what to buy, i am a engineering student and i need a new a new computer my current computer is 7 years old, but been having a few issues with the graphics card. so basically im asking you guys to help me decide between:

+300 for sound proofing if it is 2 loud for me as i am into music and would like a quiet system to create some beats.

NOTE that if i do get the imac i will have to install windows on it for my music programs(i know osx has some but they just dont cut it for me, i use cubase) so +194 plus 100 for a blu ray player.

As for monitor comparisons i dont really care id prefer a 24 inch over a 27 but yes i do know that the mac panel is like 999 dollars but im not a photo editor.

Note that it is impossible to directly play Blu-Ray movies on a Mac, even with an external player. The software does not exist to play them. You can do it, but only in a round-about way via streaming, or ripping it first.
