I just bought my first TV. It's a 60" Samsung PN60F5300. I got a great deal on it, which allowed me to go to 60", but I don't have Smart TV capability. The salesman told me I could get a Smart box (like Roku, Vizio Co-Star, or NetGear NeoTV MAX) or a Blu-ray player with smart TV capabilities, and it would be a similar result. I don't have a DVD player, so I will need to buy one regardless. I am looking to get good quality, reliable electronics, without breaking the bank...so really, I'm just looking for good value. It is also a HUGE benefit for me to get a QWERTY remote for the Smart TV apps.

My choices:
1) Get a Smart set-top box that comes with a QWERTY remote and a plain Blu-ray player
2) Get a Smart set-top box, buy a separate QWERTY remote, and a plain Blu-ray player
3) Get a Smart DVD player and purchase a separate QWERTY remote
4) Return the TV and just buy a 50" Smart Vizio LED E-series TV that comes with a QWERTY keyboard (This would cost $35 more than the TV I have now, but I would lose 10" of screen size. I would still need to buy a plain Blu-ray player.)

My questions:
1) Which options provide the most value for a good price?
2) What brands would you recommend for these items?
3) If I buy a Blu-ray player or set-top box without a QWERTY remote, is it even possible to get one separately that will work? What product would this be?

Please help! Any advice or recommendations are welcomed! Thank you in advance!
I don't really need any gaming at all, and I'm thinking about cost, so PS3 or XBox probably won't work with my budget as well as the other options.

Answer
Yes, the Xbox seems like the winner, if it's not too expensive. If you wouldn't need the Blu-ray player, the Roku 3 has been a great success. New interface, faster hardware etc.

But it's only a streaming player. If you look into it, this review might help

Should I trade in my Xbox 360 for a Playstation 3?

Guy Man

I've had my Xbox for a while now, and I've never even considered a PS3 until recently when I actually looked at it's exclusives, and I realized that all my friends are on PSN. The obvious choice is to trade it in, but I'm just not completely sure. I need a second opinion.

Answer
I started out with an xBox 360 and I loved it until I got a ps3.
pros of ps3-
-free online (great quality as well)
-built in wireless adapter
-controllers have better technology like motion detection and rumble (they also have built in rechargeable batteries. (never buy batteries again)
-blu ray player
-disks dont scratch if the ps3 falls over
-able to stream movies, videos, music, photos from any computer in your household through wifi
-games are actually blu ray
-internet browsing, also able to download movies and photos from the browser (also youtube, facebook, netflix etc.)
-universal interchangeable hard drive
-no red ring of death but there is yellow light of death (which is harder to get than red ring of death, also the slim version wont get it nearly as easily as the fat one)
-no tray that opens, disks cant get scratched when inserting into system unlike the 360 (cleans disk everytime you insert it into ps3)
-ps3 automatically shuts off if it gets hot and wont let you turn it back on until its cooled down
-really fast and smooth dashboard
-no huge power brick
-save games files can be transferred along with other kind of files via usb
-quieter than 360
-higher build quality than 360
-fast and good QWERTY messaging system

cons of ps3-
-updates take long and you cant use ps3 while updating some things
-doesnt have halo
-pretty big
-lead free soldering and bad thermal paste which leads to yellow light of death
-blu ray laser can break
-only supports blutooth devices as mics/headphones
-2 usb ports while the 360 has 4

pros of xbox 360-
-alot of people find the controller alot more comfortable but honestly once you get used to ps3 controller its very comfortable
-open mic system
-mic/headphone port is built into controller allowing universal mic/headphone devices (also cheaper)
-halo, gears of war, blah blah blah
-4 usb ports while ps3 has 2

cons of 360-
-expensive online, in my experience there was alooot more lag than ps3 but alot of people say its better than ps3 which i dont agree with
-controllers need alot of batteries
-slow dash board and menus
-lots and lots of 10 year screeching justin beibers
-red ring of death (easy to get)
-scratches disks when console is moved
-any model other than the slim needs an additional adapter for wireless online play ($60)
-huge power brick
-bad keyboard and slow messaging system
-loud

All you fagets saying ps3 sucks, you obviously never came out of your closets or you just never had one. Dumb fags.
