Aren't you forgetting the new Xbox 360?

Anyway, I swear to god that the Xbox 360 is the better than the PlayStation 3.

The PlayStation 3's exclusives focuses more on the graphics and the story and less on the gameplay. While the Xbox 360's exclusives does focus on the gameplay. It's true that the PlayStation 3 has better graphics, but that only applies to the exclusives like, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and a few cross-platform games like, Final Fantasy XIII.

Also, even though you have to pay, the online is better on the Xbox 360 than the PlayStation 3 due to less lag, most players using a headset (Watch out for the annoying children), being quick and easy way to meet up with your friends, earlier DLC, earlier add-on's and the achievements.

Also, the PlayStation 3 is more expensive than the Xbox 360, due to the Blu-Ray (Who cares) and free online.

But, Microsoft added a free month of Xbox LIVE gold into brand-new consoles for a good reason, because you may never know, after a straight 2 months playing online on PlayStation Network, you might get bored and then you'll notice that the extra price for the PlayStation 3 compared to the Xbox 360 is not worth it.

Also, if you were happy with the free month of playing online on Xbox LIVE, you could always buy a year of Xbox LIVE gold, and even though you pay, the Xbox 360 will still be cheaper than the PlayStation 3, just be sure to use the membership wisely, specifically 75%+ of it.

Also, the Xbox 360 controller is better in many ways, because the triggers are better, it has a better button layout, the sticks are more easier to hold on to and it's more comfortable. The only bad thing is that the Xbox 360 controller doesn't have a built-in rechargeable battery pack, you'll have to buy rechargeable batteries and a charger for them, and again, even if you buy it, the Xbox 360 will be cheaper than the PlayStation 3.

The Xbox 360 controller is great for first-person shooters, third-person/stealth shooters, adventure, sandbox and racing games.

The PlayStation 3 controller is too small and the triggers are horrible because of the bottom of it, plus, your thumbs can sometimes slip off the stick because the stick is curved. The good thing about it is that it has a built-in rechargeable battery pack, though I'm not sure if it lasts forever.

The PlayStation 3 controller is great for RPG's and fighting games.

Most cross-platform games runs and plays better on the Xbox 360 due to better controls, better online, slightly better graphics, smoother speed and achievements.

Pros - Xbox 360:

-Better online (Less lag and more people with headsets)
-Better exclusives (In my opinion)
-Cross-platform games play and run better on the Xbox 360
-Better controller
-Kinect
-Cheaper
-Achievements
-Free headset
-Earlier and better DLC

Cons - Xbox 360:

-You have to pay to play online and to use a few Xbox LIVE features like: Facebook and Twitter
-You'll find lots of annoying children screaming and cussing on Xbox LIVE, mostly on Halo 3 and even worse, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Pros - PlayStation 3:

-Free online gameplay
-Ultimate graphics that almost matches the real world (Only on Sony exclusives)
-3D compatibility coming soon to the PlayStation 3 (Requires a 3D-ready TV and a PlayStation 3 game with 3D support)

Cons - PlayStation 3:

-Trophies
-Expensive
-PlayStation Move (A rip-off of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk)
-Not many people own a headset (Zipper Interactive should have released M.A.G. for the Xbox 360 instead)
-Exclusives mainly focus on the graphics and story and not gameplay
-Late DLC
-----
EDIT: You can get the free month of Xbox LIVE first, then once it's finished, then you'll have to pay for Xbox LIVE. I recommend the 12-month card.
