I have an old old (1995) 52 inch big screen that still has great picture quality and do not want to buy a new TV yet. Can I hook up a blu-ray player to it? Is there like a converter for the HDMI cable to analog? Or do Blu-Ray players comes with Standard Definition outputs?

Answer
Yes, you can connect your blu ray disc player to the old analog tv. You should have a component video input on your tv and either a coax cable or rca red and white jack for the audio connection. Use this cable for the best result on video and audio. If you have a surround sound connect the coax cable to the surround sound system for surround sound. Hope this will help you out.

How to get the best sound with RCA cables?

My amp only takes analog cable input, and I watch movies with headphones plugged into that amp. Now, what will give me better sound? Running analog directly from the blu ray player to the amp, or running the analog from my hdtv to the amp? Will the hdtv act like a converter, making the hdmi's digital signal into an analog signal? Which of these will give me better results? I'm just a teenager, I'm not a scientist, so I'm lost on this, lol. Thanks

Answer
It ultimately depends on the quality of the digital to analog converter on ether your blu ray player or TV, as both are essentially having to convert a digital signal to analog. My guess is the digital to analog converter in the blu ray player is better, but you could simply try it both ways and see which one sounds better to your ears.
