Best DvD Blu-ray player for a PC for the price.?

Mike

I'm looking for a Blu-ray player to install into my computer. I basically want mid to upper-mid quality. This doesn't mean it has to be carved from gold and the latest model. I have logitech headphones($20) from 7yrs ago that still work, but my Razors break every 6-8months. $150-225 is my budget, but I could possibly go $325 if it's worth it. Please provide links if you have the time, thanks.

I bought an LG Blu-Ray burner for under $100 a year or so ago and it still works great. No need to spend big bucks. Cheap drives read the digital information just as well as expensive ones and sometimes even last longer. Optical drives are sensitive. You can get a bad one or one that's been damaged in shipping no matter how much you spend. It happens. Your player software and video card are what's responsible for picture quality.

You should be able to find a good Blu-Ray burner with good customer reviews for $100. Even less for something that only plays Blu-Ray and burns DVD and CD.

Wow... They're even cheaper these days...

If you buy something OEM without player software, shoot me an email and maybe I can hook you up...

Using a Vista PC as a network bridge for Blu-ray player?

T2427537

In my living room a have a PC running Vista Biz. It's connected wirelessly to a linksys router. It also has a unused network card. I also have Blu-ray player. Instead or running a cable to the router or buying a wireless adapter, I would like to connect a cable from the Blu-ray NIC to the PC NIC. Thus using the PC as a bridge. Can this be done and how do I do it? Does the cable need to be a crossover or will a regular Cat-5 cable work

Answer
Performance won't be great compared to a hardware solution but yes, you could turn on Internet connection sharing and do this. I assume a Blu-Ray player would only use the connection infrequently for updates, anyway?

You'd need a crossover cable since you're bypassing any hub/switch router and going direct between the NiCs of the two devices.
